When you recieve a greeting card from someone like a Valentine or birthday card do you prefer they write the message or do you like it when there is already a message that they picked out. Sometimes I feel like the person who picks out the message does know me and sometimes it seems like it's something they just picked up. I prefer when someone writes a message to me themselves....what do you prefer? Or does your choice depend on who sends it?

My mom loved birthday cards. My mother-in-law loves them too! Some people get really warm and fuzzy feeling from them. I, on the other hand don't care about cards! I have friends and family who are very dear to me because of our relationship. We can depend on each other so much that we trust each with our house keys, invite them to use our house when we aren't there, and often conduct financial business with each other. I have cousins who are as close to me as my own family! And you won't see me handing over my house or car keys to my sons! I've received cards from people who obviously felt some kind of obligation to do so. My mother-in-law sends me cards but gossips about me behind my back to the neighborhood. She says I'm not thoughtful because I don't send her cards, yet who are the first people my in-laws call when they need help? They only live 3 miles from me. I wouldn't stand so firm on this except, I've watched this kind of "caring" since I was 7! I'm very glad you have a circle of friends and relatives who obviously truly care about you!

Thank you cards are my gig! They are quite creative and thoughtful. My cousin allowed me to use his freezer to store some of the venison we got last season! After picking the last of it up I sent him and his family a card and a CD in a box with a rock. I sent it UPS, confusing the daylights out of them! The CD was marked only by me saying "play it" and had a single song on it. "Grandma got run over by a reindeer." I wrote "Kids, sorry, the reindeer had to go". That story lasted months at their house. When my kids were first introduced to the computer world (yes, they're that old to remember a time without them) they asked a family friend what a mouse pad was. He showed them one. A week later my kids got a large piece of mail with a card and a mouse pad in it. The card said, "just so you don't forget this is what a mouse pad is. It is not a fancy way to say a nest where mice live!" With us, you never know what the mailman brings, or sends!

When I pick out a card for someone I usually pick out a card that is the way I feel about that person. If I don't agree with the saying or don't feel like that towards that person then I can not get the card. It is always nice if they write something in the card too, but it is not necessary, it is the thought that counts.

I like a written message too. It makes the card seem more personal to me. Now I have had some great cards that have already had the message on them that seemed to be picked carefully just for me. I don't mind those. I don't care for the ones that are bland and just seem chosen in a rush.

Thanks for the best response Jill. I know it is late but you know how the notifications have been. The ones with meaning certainly give you a special feeling.

Hi Jill, I prefer that the person write the message. A written message is so much more personal. Have a great day!

I like more when they are the one who write in a card so i will see there effort than they just buy a card that already have a letter inside. I think if there is already message inside the card when they buy it they are not the real one who's telling me what is in the message on the card, i feel that its just a poem that wrote by the author of that card, its not a real message.

Well for me, it is easy when they just picked out a card, or one they really thought would fit me and one I would appreciate. It is always nice when someone does take time though to include a little message or two as well.

It depends on who sends the card. If the card has a message already written on it, a little handwritten note maybe at the bottom of the card is always nice. It tells me the sender was really thinking about me when signing the card. I enjoy getting Christmas cards that include an "update" about the particular family who sent the card. I find it fun to read about what's been happening in the family.

I like it when the person who sent the card wrote the message himself or herself. But I'm okay, too with a ready-made message and additional personal message from the sender. It's always nice (at least for me) when there's a personal message because the card would feel like it really came from the heart.

I think that the choice really depends on who sends a card to me. I know that I personally always write the sentiment for the card myself and the reason for this is because of the fact that I make all of my own cards. However, there are times that I will get a card in the mail that has a preprinted sentiment on it that I am really able to connect with. That is the reason that it just depends for me.

i prefer handwritten personal messages on greeting cards. i love to look at the handwriting of the person who sent me the card because a lot of the senders personality will be revealed in his style of writing.

I used to send them with a personalized message, though these days with the mobile text messages and emails, I don’t send digital cards or post cards. Of course there are occasions when I do use online cards sometimes but then I do make sure I write a message for the recipient/s. To receive, yes i would love to read the messages of the other person.

I will enjoy most if they write message which is really come from them. Not the one already written on the card.I will always treasure the card, like when i am in teens life,i collect all the cards from someone special and when i am sad i just read them.also when we break up with my x,the cards are still there to remind me how much he loves me before.

I always write a message in my card, whether it's blank or has a written message. I've done this for years and I think it means much more to the recipient. It also takes me a very long time to find the right card, one that says the correct message or meaning, and if I can't, I end up sending a blank card with a message in it. I've already shopped at a few card stores to find the right card. I'm not one to send something with no meaning.

Handwritten, definitely. I don't normally even read the printed part, as I assume that the card was chosen for the art rather than the text.

When I pick out a greeting card, I tend to pick one that says something I personally would say.. instead of basing it on the recipient. I prefer humor based cards as opposed to sentimental ones.. so that is what I would pick out if sending a greeting card. As for receiving one, I think it's just the thought that counts.

Never having had a romantic relationship, I can not speak of having received letters of love or Valentine's Day. However I can say that I have received several letters from relatives birthday. I prefer to receive them having been written by the same sender. This makes no difference if they are: friends, relatives, family, etc..

For me, it should be hand written. The joy of reading the thoughts of the who the person gave the card is much better than just receiving the card and reading all the same greetings written on it :)
