About half an hour ago,a TV news said that some of American plicemen drove about 40 kilometers running after a suspect. On TV I could see they came up to pummel him as those policemen caught that guy! In 1992 I was caught by a young policeman to the police station of my town because he thought I had managed to get away with the yearly bike's checking. He handcuffed me to the window but I was not pummeled.Since then I have been quite disappoited to them. How do you like them?

I believe that most of the police officer do a great job, there are always some, as in any other profession, who are not suitable for the job, and commit abuse, and even get involved, themselves in criminal behaviour. I donĀ“t think that it is fair to generalize and entire force, for how some of them behave.

Indeed, we all see, all the time, police oficers, engaged in criminal activities all the time, and this, of course, reduce in us the confidence but, we have to remember that, this is only a small percentage of the whole force, and that most of them, like in any other activity, are good, well motivated people.

I agree on you,Albto-568.But there are always some from the police force, who do what they shouldn't do,who dishonour the whole police force.I used to admire our policemen, but from then on the admiration from me has changed more or less.

I can't say I like or hate the cops here in the U.S. I have always thought there were three types of policemen. One is the policeman who will give you a ticket for driving 40 in a 35 zone. And then there is the bully who goes out To harass people and then there is the Cop. A cop is a policeman who will give you a warning when you go 50 in a 35 zone. The type that will help while off duty , a regular guy who Just happens to be a police officer. The problem is you Never know which type you are dealing with.

The stories that make international news about police abuse are not examples of how most of the society is. Most police, like everyone else, are doing their job, doing it fairly and doing it as well as they can. I think not everyone is suited for the job, but they also never know when they are going to be in danger from bad people. Most of them are honest and fair.

I agree on you and I believe most of the police are fair and duteous. But I thought that the policeman could deal well with what happened to me then if he was fair and patient enough, yet he didn't.

I live in a country where it is hard to trust police officers. More often that not, they are part of a syndicate or the crooks themselves and sometimes we find ourselves in a bind if we want to report a crime. The corruption in my government goes down to the smallest unit, so I cannot really put my trust or faith into our policemen. As they say not everyone is bad in our police force. I know it's true because I have neighbors here who are policemen. But one of them opted to work abroad than be tainted by the corruption of his office or position. I feel sad because good people like these who could make a difference leave our police force because they know that they will be corrupted if they stay.

I think those things that you hate happen in my country too,but the situation is not so serious.I can say corruption happens in most of the countries in the world, but we can do nothing. Yes,the policeman who refused being tainted is really a good one,we need such policemen!

Hi OldSix. It has often been said that our police officers are one those people who are underpaid. As they are underpaid, not everyone is interested to be in the police force. Unlikely as it is, compared to the policemen in other countries who has very good built, ours are tubby such that they couldnt manage to chase after a bad guy. Some find it funny, i honestly find it pathetic.

They went too far! They handcuffed you to the window just because they suspected you of escaping the yearly bike's checking.Even though such a thing hasn't happened to me, but I think some policemen really get too big.

I myself, am not fond of them really.I mean I know that they are to protect us and I know many of them do. But some things that I have seen just dont keep my confidence in them. Plus its a let down for some since we think of them as heros when we are children. Then we get older and see them beating people and this is far from the childhood idol we once thought them to be.

Yes,something from the police really made us get disappointed.I think that time I was caught by that policeman just because of my getting away with a bike check-up that was at his disposal when I hurried up to work in a shortcut! And then the second time he caught me in the street!

The NYPD have gotten a really bad reputation to tell you the truth. There have been many instances, videos, and pictures of cops doing things that they are not supposed to do. During the Occupy Wall Street protests I dropped by a few times, I also attended the big rally that took place in Times Square, and I saw the things that the cops did. It was just horrible, the cops were arresting people and hitting people who were not even doing anything illegal, because last time I heard it wasn't against the law to voice your opinion in a non-violent manner. Even though a few bad apples can't make all the other apples bad, these instances have really soured my opinion of the NYPD and what they stand up. They are supposed to protect us, not beat us when we voice our opinions.

I am a Canadian and have experienced the police to be as good as the person behind the badge. Sure, there are some good ones but many can be corrupt, excessive and unethical. It is hard to trust law enforcement because you really don't know what kind of officer you are going to get. We grant the police quite a bit of authority and the results can prove frightening. Personally, I simply don't trust them.

Hi Oldsix, Here in my country most people don't have a good perception of policemen despite the government's efforts to improve their image. It's sad because the infraction done by a few members of the police force reflect on the organization as a whole. And because the bad things done by some of their members are the ones always highlighted and magnified, it becomes very difficult for ordinary people to see them in a positive light. Personally, I believe there are more good policemen than bad.

I hope you are not right. But what the police of your country dealt with the affair that the Hongkong travellers were kidnapped in the bus really never satisfied us,of course that never means there are not good policemen around you.

I am aware that policemen or cops are very corrupt in some countries. In other words, some police maybe looking to make extra dollars from bribery. That would be an example. I do not have many encounters with cops here in US. I have been detained once for about less than hour, which I am not feeling comfortable disccusing this at the moment. Most of the time, my experience with cops have been questions about awareness. What I'm aware about cops in the US are mixed. I've seen news coverage of police brutality and police fired shots at unarmed civilians. Not everyday or not so often that these incident happens. For the most part, I believe lots of people in law enforcement can be trustworthy. Let me repeat, LOTS, not all of them.

Policemen in singapore are generally friendly and they are not hostile unless we are to them. If someone has committed a crime and running away, it's natural for policemen to be harsh the moment they caught them. If one has done nothing wrong, only suspect, like your example, they ought to be polite and respect u, instead of pummel u to whatever is nearby. Whatever it is, as long as u are not proven guilty of anything or they have no proof, u should not be handcuffed at all.

I hate policman because they reach after committing the crime even they know some crime may be happened if anybody inform them but they not start their action hurry up. Now only selfish policeman are here. Innocent people are arrested and victim is walking freely. This is the big example of Adnan(a smart boy) case 4 victim(who was online friend) are walking freely.

Yes,if a policeman ignores what he has to do,you cannot expect he'll be a good policeman. But they are common human beings,no one can assure they are all good ones.

Policemen in my area are pretty good. I have lived here all my life and have been in some situations where the police have had to be called. They have been professional and gracious for the most part. There are always afew that have a attitude and we have had to deal with these.

I do not like the performance of policemen in my country and just like what i see in the moves sometimes they are very late to response to a crime situation. So the crime already ended and they fail to caught any suspect because they were always late. Sad to say not all police were performing their duties and function and some neglect what they suppose to do their duty honestly so they could be of grater help to those who need them.

Yes,there are always some policemen who do not do their duty honestly, and some even join in some crime gangs, something must be done to get rid of them from the police force.

Policemen are humans and make the mistakes of humans. I know that here in the U.S., they are treated like they can do no wrong. I sort of know some of their attitudes because when I worked at the amusment park back in the early seventies, I worked as a policeman (guard) in the Cedar Point police department. One day the chief of police drove me past some hippy looking band members and pointed at them. He said to me, "Today if you beat them, they call it 'police brutality'. Back in my day if you beat them, they called it 'justice'." The point is, many of them still have prejudiced attitudes against people. I like policemen because I've had relatives and friends who were policemen. But I've also had some bad experiences with them and I don't believe they have the right to beat someone who can't fight back because of the law. It's their job. If they can't handle the job, they should quit.

What you said really make sense. One of my uncle used to be an police officor,he worked very seriously and acted very bravely, but he never did private things for his children or relatives, and he never came close to anything that he's not supposed to do.

Hi Oldsix, Policemen in my city are the best compared to nearby cities.. It is a job like other jobs (But a very important one), you can cross many types of policemen, some are nice and polite others not; maybe because of a bad day or a "last night" fight with wife/hubby....lol. Anyways, policemen should be respected and saluted for what they do. Note: Yes, I agree not in all countries. As in some countries they are really corrupted.

in my country morocco , policemen is worth nothing more than legaL criminals or thieves , thier personal interests come first , you dont expect from him protection if you dont show concern to pay for it - corruption is very common in this country - , only the center of each city is watched , protected by policemen because there is where rich classe lives , outside this little squares , you find only crims ,
