An aging phenomenon causes variety of emotions all our life. When one was young, aging process was welcome enthusiastically and impatiently. A nine-year-old kid was impatiently awaiting his or her 10th birthday. And this impatience rose when one became a teenager, especially when she was expecting her 17th birthday. When one reaches 49, her or his 50th birthday becomes trivial and tends to be forgotten. Actually old age should not be worried about as long as we are physically, mentally and financially healthy, loved and cared for by the people around us. With this we wil face aging process happily. It is true that becoming old often results in negative emotion to the eldery. All, no exception, will feel disappointed when finding that they have gradually lost their beauty and become forgetfull. Are you afraid of getting old?

Before, I was afraid of getting old but for many years in my life have passed I enjoyed more. Maybe today, I am not afraid of getting old. The only thing that I am afraid of, is that I die in sickness without enjoying my retirement age.

Yes, I changed my lifestyle after I received my lab results. I eat less meat but more on vegetables and fruits. I exercise twice a day which only my mom knows it. What worries me is that we have this diabetes and hypertension health condition in our family tree, though I do not have diabetes which is hyperglycemia but I may have hypertension and I already encountered when I sweat a lot, partially paralyzed, and heavy breathing due to mind pressure and physical stress.

I think it is too late to worry about that now. It has caught up to me without me realizing it. But to answer your question, NO! I am not afraid of growing old. Each day is welcomed like they were when I was younger. There is always something new to learn, enjoy and I still have dreams and a list of things I would still like to accomplish. If I worried about getting old, it probably would prevent me from doing and wanting to do the things on my list. If I worried I wouldn't be living the life I want to live. We will all get older. In fact we do every second of every day. It is normal and natural...so just live life that way and feel good. You are really only as old as you feel regardless of the number of candles on your birthday cake!

I personally think that I am never old. I have noticed that I am still as strong as before. By feeling like this I will feel energetic and strong. Of course, I know my age is increasing day by day. At least I can make myself look young by regular exercise, eating the right food and having a lot of fruit. Like you, I am not afraid of growing old, either.

Congratulations! That is a wonderful mind set to have. It is great to hear that you take care of yourself and eat right so you can live the life you want and be physically able to do all that you love. Enjoy each day as they shine upon you!

getting old can be a negative thing, I volunteered in a Nursing Home for six years and saw some pretty sad cases, there are a lot of very lonely older people and they have children but too busy to take the time to show they care.

Do they look healthy? At what age are they mostly? I guess they are probably around 70.

No. I am not afraid of getting old. In fact, I wanted to grow as old as 90. the reason is I wanted to witness my kids growing and eventually build their own family. I wanted to see my grandchildren and perhaps be of help, guiding them to the right path, and also helping them financially as long as I am capable of. Getting old is much more desirable than to die at the very early age. Thus the changes, physically and emotionally associated in getting older should be dealt with positively. Aside from the fact that it's just but normal, at least we were able to experience such changes in our lives.

Make sure that when you reach 90, you are still healthy and fit to do sedentary job. I am happy that you have a good intention to see you children grow. I hope your dream will come true.

I have never been afraid of getting old. I think what has helped is seeing all those around me and seeing that regardless of what they go through which leads to dying eventually for all of us, It has made it easier for me to accept. I stay with my 86 year old mom 4 days a week, and she has many health issues. It makes it very difficult just the two of us for that length of time. She mostly sits and doses off. she thinks she has to watch something on tv, and it is nothing I necessarilly want to watch, but when we do watch and something neat happens, I look over to her for a response, and she is asleep. I have just faced that that will be me one day, and I hope that I am blessed like she is in having others around her who care that she is going through this. That is the most important thing of all when you age that there are those around you who love and care for you and show you.

You know that taking care of one's parents, especially when they are very old is well-liked by God. God will pay you for what you have done to your parents. This means that your childeren will do the same to you when you get old. So, there is no worry about getting old. We will all be through it. Thank for sharing, chrystaltears.

Yes, don't be afraid of getting old because it's a natural process. There's nothing we can do to stop it because it's internal. We can do whatever we want to look young, but our health can't possibly stay healthy all the time. Whatever modifications we did to enhance our look, medication taken, jabs and all, there are bound to be side effects. When they build up over the years, everything will go back to square one again. Age naturally and that's the best.

We can not get out of it but we could slow it down by staying away from things that trigger the aging process.

sometimes, i get to listen to people telling that, it is hard to grow old alone and lonely. so i think it is a different thing from growing old physically and emotionally well prepared. the theory of growing old miserable arose from misconception. when we think of getting old lonely, it even get the aging process quickly. but if we learn to accept it, and live very well as the day pass by. we could be aging gracefully, which is good health emotionally and physically.

It comes along to redirecting your unaware mind. On the shell, you know your fear of getting old is irrational. But it has keep on because your unconscious has linked a whole load of powerful pessimistic emotions mostly fear to the very thought of old age. Cases of fright of getting old are frequently caused by a strong negative experience from the past. But your mind can also make that fear ostensibly without basis. The key is digging down to the foundation and replacing negative relations with positive ones. No treatment has ever been developed exclusively for fear of getting old, and none can ever treat the root cause of the problem, only repress the symptoms. And with all the doubt surrounding possible side effects it is hard to rationalize giving a prescription as a healthy resolution.

You are right, bro. But most are afraid because they know they will lose something they currently have. By replacing pessimistic emotions with positive ones, this will reduce the worries of getting old, I am sure.

To be honest, at my age right now, I am kind of afraid of getting old myself. I had noticed that I am much older now, in appearance, and physical ability. I saw myself in the mirror in comparison to 10 years ago, there were much difference and I am afraid to facing it. I guess at different age, we all have different emotion toward this aging process. Naturally, we have to accept it as how we get old.

We can't avoid not seeing ourselves in the mirrow. When we can, it's so shocking to know that we are no longer the one we are proud of. But this is reality, We can't avoid the process either.

I think one will be the fear of getting old when s/he has not achieved good things in life and s/he is growing old alone. Other than that, it is quite fulfilling growing old surrounded by people/family that loves you.

That is one of the benefits of having kids. When they are grown up, they can look after their parents. The parents, at old age, will be very happy to be surrounded by his family.

Congratulations ! It's not that easy to be positive and stay healthy and happy at your age. Many people in my country feel hopeless and pessimistic about themselves. The best way is to think that we are not old (although we are old). You will look young if you think that you are still young.

So far I am still afraid of getting old. That's why I don't like celebrating my birthday. But getting old is one of the thing that I can't resist. I am growing up and getting old everyday. There are few thing can help to keep my youth but sooner or later I'll be old and ugly . I want to be an independent women even when I am old

I think you are still young and shouldn't have worries over elderliness. The worries usually show up when one is at the age of 40. Have a good weekend zaahro.
