I took a lot of typing lessons in school that didn't really help. When I was a bit older and started chatting with my friends over msn, I got fast and accurate very quickly! Having a conversation was the motivation I needed, and now I'm so good at typing that I can type accurately in the dark because I don't need to look at my fingers! I think practice makes perfect and having lots of discussions here on mylot will probably help!

That cool to hear, you learn more from just type in life than from a special type lesson. I hope i also can type faster over a year orso, I just go practice here a bit. But i think i never can type blind without making mistakes sometime because even if i look i make mistakes sometimes.

i started learning my typing skills back in college. And for more than 2years i was an email agent so i have to type fast and be quick with my fingers. Its fun when u practice your hands on a keyboard. U try to get a magazine, a page with lots of texts and use it for practice. Then time will come that your eyes are always on the magazine while your fingers typing..

a pleasant day majorroald, with reference to your main topic discussion, well, i am proud to say that my typing skills is really a 100% since we have had this lesson during my college days. thus our professor was too strict whenever she caught you looking at the keyboard. so we really need to memorize the letters and their positioning accordingly. or else, she will give you a failing grade. as a result, the keys and arrangements of the letters were already memorized and mark on my mind. and, maybe try to memorize also the positioning of the key as this will help you to type quickly. although you really need to practice more before you get it perfect.

Years ago there were typing lessons in some high schools but I hadn't this chance. Now my work involve typing and I cannot do it with my ten fingers. I use just a few and I'm not so fast. If I had enough time maybe I'd take typing lessons.

In my option ,typing lesson was not compulsory to you. i almost typed 120-140 letters in a minute, but i was so sucks in the beginning of typing. so i think i could give you some useful suggestion. Frist, you should form a good habit that remember the position of keys .for a example, when you forget a key 's positon , not fast to look it ,you should try to think it over. you should't care time that you took to think . Slowly you found you had made great progress? the follow things is also keep practicing. second, you must put your fingers on the position where you should , the relatived information you could get from the interenet. in the end ,please believe in yourself , you can do it . because of the limited english level , you just told thease.

I took typing in school. It was helpful in most of the jobs that I had. I tried hard to get both of my children to take typing when it was offered. I tried especially hard withy my son, as his handwriting was almost illegible. However, he refused. He didn't seem to care that only those familiar with his writing could decipher it. When he went to work and had to write up reports, he learned the "hunt and peck" system of typing and wished he had taken my advice.

I never take one as those kind of course is pretty expensive. I tried the one online once but it was pretty difficult. Still, since I've using computer a lot, I still can type quite fast even though I am not using all fingers like the ones they teach you in typing class. I only use around 3-4 fingers. I already got used to type like this so I guess I won't be taking any typing class.

I don't think it's necessary to have typing lessons, but it's a good idea and very helpful for many people. It was a requirement to take a typing class in my high school, but I'd already been typing since I was six, so it was just an easy A for me. I started writing novels when I was six and, therefore, I taught myself everything I needed to know about typing. I used to force myself NOT to look at the keyboard even if I made a mistake--I made myself fix it, by memory, by using both the backspace key and the correct letter. Over the years this has caused me to type extremely fast (101 words per minute) with 100% accuracy, simply because I don't need to take the time to look at the keyboard and find the right key if I make a mistake--I simply keep typing, backspace + key, at the same speed. My typing teacher in high school saw that sometimes I wouldn't use the "correct" fingers to hit the correct keys, etc., but my method obviously had been working for me for over a decade at that point and she let it go. I think it's a nice thing they have those classes in high school...because I noticed that even though my classmates used email and such, they couldn't type with more than two fingers. In a technology era, it is getting more and more necessary to type well and at a decent speed. Also, I know of both games and teaching programs that are freeware that you can find on the internet, if classes are too expensive and such. Some are actually really great programs and are fun to use. Good luck to you!

Way back in the days of grade school we learned typing. And naturally in high school those lessons were rather re-enforced. Granted I don't think my computer skills were really great until I got my own computer a few years after I learned how to type but still they were valuable lessons which set up the foundation of typing that I have today. Of course, it is to the point that those who went to school after a certain year, are going to get those typing lessons whether they want them or not and those who went before a certain year...well time to sink or swim. Then again, it is kind of important to know as computers have really gotten to a new level of importance in this day and age. So leaning great typing skills is important.

Yes, I did. The first that I has a typing lesson when I was in Grade 6. We were taught on the proper way to type, but because of my stubbornness I was not able to do it properly. I find it easier to use it in an improper way.

There are lots of people who only type with a few fingers. My Father typed with only 4 fingers but he could type around 30 words a minute because he had to do a lot of typing in his job and got good doing it his way. I didn't have typing lessons. I just taught myself. I found a chart where your fingers need to be nestled and which ones should hit what keys and practiced and practiced and practiced. Now, when I taught myself there weren't any electric typewriters or computer keyboards to use. I had to use a manual typewriter and you had to really hit the keys to get anything to print on the paper in the roller. Now I use a computer and can type depending upon what I am working on between 40 and 70 words a minute. It takes a lot of practice but you can do it!

I had typing practice in computer classes during school and then in college my speed got better with all the assignments and work we had to do on computer. I can type fairly fast. If you are interested and if you need to type fast then you should take formal classes or just practice at home and teach yourself...

I had typing in high school but that was a long time ago. I can still type fairly well but I make a lot more mistakes than I used to. My Dad never had typing lessons but he was pretty good and fast at typing using just his two index fingers.

I did a business course at Pitmans college and learned touch typing. It only takes about 12 hours about an hour a couple of times a week and like riding a bike you never forget it. I cannot understand why now that all kids use computers it is not one of the things taught in every school. If that was done maybe the kids would be using their computers to do some writing instead of just using a mouse to play games

I took typing lessons in the 8th grade. We had some very old typewriters, they were not very good, but at that time there were only a few computers at my school, so we had to use the old typewriters instead. I was never very good at typing. Our teacher gave us some sentences that we had to write without looking at the letters. When we were able able to write those sentences without mistakes we received the next sentences. Some of my classmates finished that sentences very fast, but I was stuck with the same sentences for a long time because I couldn't write them without mistakes When I finished the typing lessons I developed my own style of typing, it is not 100% correct according to the rules, but it works for me.

Yes I had also diplom but at certain moment I forgot about it. Then as I started to work, right before I had to practise it again (I did bij a pc programm). Since that time I type daily but now way less as years ago. Still 10 fingers but RSI and other problems. I worked some time with a speak-computer but that doesn't work great so started typing again.
