Walking everyday to have lunch with the kids...

Since late last year, I decided to have lunch with my daughters at school. I take my lunch break at exactly 12 noon, have to walk in 10 minutes to reach their school and have a short talk with the girls then go back to work before 1pm. At first, it was very tiring but now I just enjoy walking everyday. Now I appreciate the view which I passed through and the people that I talk with every noon. Sometimes, there are interesting stories that I seen like a poor pregnant lady who was asking for help turned out to be a fugitive. And sometimes there are old friends that I've met again and have some short talk. Maybe this is the reason too that even though I am eating a lot nowadays, I maintained my weight which is 109 pounds, before I was 125 pounds. A great exercise, a short talk with the kids and a new experience everyday.

Good for you. :D so walking everyday to have lunch with the kids ain't that bad right? It's like killing two birds with one stone, or maybe 3 birds xD I believe you would tell your walking-in-the-afternoon experience to your kids right? How I envy them xD I would love to hear the story of a poor pregnant lady asking for help, but turned out to be a fugitive. I've been walking around my street for more than a decade but, had never experience it. I would love to experience it one day xD but of course, not onto me but someone else. Super cruel right? Letting others suffer for my own entertainment. Oh well, hopefully, in the future, I will be able to experience something similar when I walk to my kids school. Them ill brag my stories to them xD

That's great. You were able to maintain your weight with daily 10 minutes walk. You have the chance to talk with your girls everyday- it's a great way of bonding. You were able to appreciate things around you that seems ordinary the past years in your life. :)

Thanks Jaiho and Xiaobing for the respond. With things that's going around us... I mean the calamities and the financial crisis, I guess it's time to appreciate the free things and enjoy the environment. I really love to have more time for my daughters that I even would spend all my available work leaves just to attend to their school activities. Now that I've thought of it, that I could manage to spend my lunchbreak with them, then that would mean, that I am available for them everyday too.

You are lucky that your kid's school is not too far away so that it's easier to walk there. How many miles is it from your home to the school? I wish I could do the same like you do. My home is about 7 km to the school, so I found it rather impossible to walk there. Even though I could it'd be too tiring.

I don't know with regards to distance but I could manage to do it in 10 minutes to 15 minutes. At first it is hard to do, but now it is easier for me because my legs are more firmer I think and adaptable now for walking. Since I started working, I gain weight every year because I am at the office for 8 hours with just my hands working. A foreigner friend actually told me to do biking at lunchbreak and it was done in their country to burn what they eat. I thought at first that it is not easy because of the heat in our country. But now, I know that our body will adopt easy to our environment. Biking is not actually a famous activity for ladies her so I opted to walk instead. Just brought a good and comfortable flat shoes to make it easier for me.

I think it´s wonderful what you are doing. It´s a moment of bonding whose results you will see in the future. As you tell us, there are also fringe benefits. A walk is a moment of relax and we see things that usually we don´t notice in our work or while driving. Congratulations!!!

R3jcorp, wow - if only there were more people like you. You are living a very rich life and the way you have designed your time is really intelligent. Sounds like a very real win-win situation. What you are doing is good for your health, good for your children and good for your quality of life. You could probably even write a book about your daily adventures, I would definitely be interested in buying and reading it. I'm impressed. It doesn't get better than that!

Thank you Leeper. I am enjoying the changes that I made with my life. Yes, everyday there are stories to enjoy in the surroundings. Like today, when the kids are already in their classroom, I still manage to accompany a friend who wants to buy a wedding gift at the newly opened mall. Our city will be having a mass wedding tomorrow and the different departments in the city hall are asked to give 2 wedding gifts and cash gift to be distributed to the couples tomorrow. We are both in a hurry but we manage to get what we need. It's kinda weird how I could squeeze my activities with the little time in my hands.

Yes, I will do anything for them. I might as well could monitor their needs and school requirements for the afternoon and check their schedule. I think they are thrilled to have me in the school during lunchtime because they see other mothers who are not working, have a long time for their kids at school. Regarding the weight, people thought it is because of illness, but friends who knows my activity could prove that I've been eating a lot but burning it too. Thanks.

I really enjoy walking and since I don't have a car that's what I do a lot. In the mornings I take 2 buses to get to work and the seconds bus takes a 15 minute break right after it goes for 3 stops, so instead of sitting on the bus I walk the rest of the way. It takes about 15-20 minutes and it's a nice little walk through a nice neighborhood so I don't mind at all. When I miss my bus going home I walk a while till the next one catches up to me

That's a very good thing. Apart from losing weight, you also get closer with your kids. I couldn't try that though. School time finish at 1.30 pm daily so we just pick our children and take them home. At least we can still together at home. However walking to school is completely out of idea as the school is so far away from home.

Interesting..., and your girls don't mind taking their lunch break with you instead of their friends every day? My teenage sons pretend they don't see me when I have to show up for something at their school and they happen to be around.
