I think as a freelancer you have a lot of freedom but also your own business (at least over here) and you have to look for work each time again. Question is if you like that. Personally I could not only live with a job like that, not being sure if I have enough income to pay all the bills and take care of my children.
But I assume there are other ways too to make sure you have a kind of reasonable income and your contract?

I have only recently begun freelancing. I decided in October, 2011 to start writing for money. I've made a few hundred dollars so far. I think I could reliably earn about $400 per month just writing articles and offering them for sale, but I'm experimenting with affiliate marketing and blogging, too, which is eating up a lot of my time at the moment.
I am on both HubPages and Squidoo. My HubPages blog is entirely about love relationships, and when I get enough followers I plan to launch a related business. My Squidoo, on the other hand, is for affiliate marketing and writing on other topics I like. I don't know much about building links, so I'm learning about them this month.
I believe within 18 months, I'll be able to regularly bring in $2,000 per month.

I love freelancing because it gives me a lot of topical freedom. However, the freelance pay rate (especially on websites that pay you by the view or answer) suck. I work really hard, at least 20 hours a week. During the week I calculated,I earned 0995 cents a minute. Not really livable now is it?

I expect it's a good way to bring in a little extra money, but I wouldn't quit my day job.
