Don't talk to me like I'm some sort of child because that will piss me off. No other company has asked me soo many questions like this woman has, and it's annoying. I hung up on her because of the way she was treating me, yes I might have been a bit "frank" about not wanting to give out information but treating me like that is just ugh. I said "look if you can't help me then I'll just hang up" and she went on to try to help but started treating me like a child so I said "okay well have a good night" and hung up. It's not even night, lol.
Every other place has been good to me, I'm going to have to calm down before I continue to call places. You don't need to know CRAP about where I live dear insurance companies.
Anyway, Anybody else gotten mad after a phonecall recently?

So far and thank goodness no phone calls ever made me furious recently. But I do remember some time back when I was into telemarketing where I used to be annoyed with the lies told to me with the telephone operators of companies that I call.

I don't like telemarketing, I'd hate to be the one sitting there doing it, but I guess they get paid well. It'd be annoying to me and I'd have my feelings hurt constnatly. I try to be nice to them, which is why I am calming down before I call anymore.

That is true and that's why I quit the job after some years working there. When I get annoyed with banks or telephone companies calling me and getting irritated with the agents, I used to see myself being rejected or shout at. and then I try to calm myself down talking with agents too. But then sometimes I know how hard it is to control ourselves.

It is very hard not to get irritated, and I know I showed it in my voice which may be why she acted the way she did, but still. I work retail and even that can be.. challenging. I don't think anyone deserves to be yelled at, but sometimes it just slips and happens. Maybe when things start to get "heated" we should have a "time out" and music play on the phone for a minute, something soothing. Then after, both parties apologize!

Ah the customer care execs
The last time one called me up was for an inquiry about purchasing a laptop and it was after 16 months I had made that inquiry. I tried my best to keep being polite but the height was during the call she asked me about 10 times when I was going to purchase it... When it started getting weird, I asked her - Ms. it is been 16 months I had inquired and you call up after so long... With this kind of Pre-Sales Support, I am quite sure Your Tech Support will arrive after I have taken a re-birth and hung up.
And there is another a few days back. from an Insurance Firm - right at morning 9:00 am. (I get up at 10). This lady told me I have been selected for an offer, wherein I will get insured for 100,000 INR and no premiums or payments needed. C'mon, I am not interested. but she continued explaining the formalities. Upset, I told her, why on earth are you doing this to me, I am neither a terrorist and want the Government to start Federal Inquiries against me, and also I dont want to anger the Tax Guys (I do not have any good earning and there is no way I can get insured for that amount).
Today, I DO NOT receive/attend calls from those numbers which I do not know. Saves me some good time

Those telemarkerters that keep on talking. I understand that they have to try to persist, but usually I say "look I know you have to persist, but really just stop it please." sometimes they get pissy with me, other times they just say "okay have a good day" and hang up.
I feel bad for them, but at the same time the rules they have to follow are ridiculous! Some are mean right off the bat, of course they expect mean customers/ potential customers too.
With your call there about the laptop I would have done the same, said "look lady, I've already got myself a nice laptop with great customer care, maybe you should have your company work on that because it's been six months since i've inquired".

I have a small 3 month experience in these tele-marketing jobs and a 6 month experience with Technical Support for HP (then Compaq). I think, here in India, the rules are not that strict. It is the leaders (we call them Group Leaders here) or even the stiff targets of calls that compels them many a times. They are quite highly paid in case the Call Centers are International (about 16,000 INR to start with + commissions and Perks, leave aside free Pickup and Drop + Snacks and One Meal) I say they are highly paid as the qualifications are not needed and neither age is a bar. So many join in.

I remind them that it's disrespectful to ignore what I'm telling them. Then I add, "And I don't like to be treated with disrespect."

With Telemarketers you can simply hang up even if they are talking. If you want to have some fun you can ask them all kinds of questions and then start to place an order and keep changing it and finally just cancel and hang up. They are not making commission if you don't order.
It is different when you call them. Every state had different insurance regulations and companies have different qualifications and rating systems. In some states the company is insuring the car no matter who drives it with your permission and other states simply insure the driver no matter what car you drive. The questions may seem meaningless to you but to the insurance company they are very important.

I have gotten work related calls that made me mad, as it was when I was driving and they were trying to make me work my day off. Now, on the subject of insurance, if it is insurance for a vehicle they do base their rates on where you park the vehicle at night, so they do need to know where you live. A very safe neighborhood with low crime has lower rates than a high crime area. Sometimes people lie about where they live in order to get lower rates. You do need to go with a reputable company, though that is safe to give information out to.

yes, I see that. I have had people talk down to me, and sometimes I know I am at least old enough to be their mom and sometimes, with a stretch, their grandmother. The fact is, if you are old enough to have a contract for their service you are also old enough to be treated with respect.

I don't like getting calls from work on my day off, it makes me anxious at first. I usually do go in, but when I don't it makes me feel bad because usually it's because I don't want to. Human nature I guess though.
Yes it is auto insurance, and I called Allstte who connected me to esurance, and esurance was the one that was being the butt. I know they have to know WHRE I live, but they don't need to know who drives too, no one else asked me that, just her. Or well one did, but I told them off the bat that that doesn't matter, I'm the only one paying and blah blah. She just treated me like a child, even if she was trying to be nice.

As the matter of fact, I am. And it's with my boyfriend. We live in different states so we hardly see each other. He called me last night and I was a bit busy. But it's him calling so of course I answered it. After talking for awhile he asked whether I was doing something. I said I was. Then he said if I won't get the jobs done if I just talk on the phone. What the...
I answered the phone because it's he's on the line. I even multitasking to ensure I get the job done and could entertain him at the same time.
I just said bye and hang up after that.

That was rude of him. You answered because it was him and wanted to talk. To me that should have been a question he asked first thing when he called "hi are you busy?" not insult you afterwards!

I hate when people do that. I am glad that you hung up on them. It may take a a little longer to find an insurance company, but it will be worth it. I am not sure if you have this company out by you, but have you tried Progressive. My husband and I have been with Progressive and we really like them. They are a great company. You get discounts for them such as going paperless.

I was once going to get a job as a telemarketer or something in a call center agency but have not pushed through with this plan and now I picture myself out doing the same thing. I was wondering how to handle customers, although we were trained, we were already warned that some customers could go all extreme on words, while some would be thankfully kind and understanding. So now after reading this, I thought, "Would I have drove somebody crazy if I took the job?". Well, I'll still probably find out because that plan of getting that job is still in my list.
Anyway, the last uncomfortable conversation I had on the phone was with my dad. It wasn't really infuriating, but just uncomfortable. I don't like getting mad because I know I get seriously high tempered and all, which could ruin everybody's mood as well. That's everybody I interact with.

Hi there Some3cowgirl,
There was one and this is about a gym membership in a well known Gym in my country, and the thing was i was just inquiring over the phone when i was about to hung up the agent said sir you had been automatically enrolled in our gym for 2 years and that is about $70 a month so i said hey i didn't authorize you to do anything i didn't even give my credit card information, they got my name and searched for any credit card under my name and enrolled me automatically and i said no remove that and they said they are sorry but this is not possible since this is automatic, and they can't do anything about it, so i asked for a supervisor and the person said sir nope that is not possible im sorry your complaint thus not require a supervisor and that this is final so i said screw you i will call my bank and they replied screw you sir you cant do anything about it your paying us or will sue you for not upholding our deal, i said to myself thisis scammers , and dropped the phone called my bank that i did not purchase any gym membership and i was being scammed so they canceled my card and gave me a new one not to be tampered and with better security then i called my aunt from the NBI and had it investigated a few months later they busted this agency selling the membership and harrassing people everybody was arrested and i saw my aunt on TV during the operation supervising like the supervisor that she is, NBI is our local FBI version.

Actually, insurance companies *do* need to know where you live because it's one of the factors they use in pricing for most types of insurance. There are higher health risks in certain environments, more likely to be car crashes in certain environments, etc.
I have noticed a trend that some companies are asking invasive and unnecessary questions, though.
I called Walgreens about my husband's reward account. I am not on the account, and I just had a question about how the program worked - not something about his account. Anyway, the woman wanted to verify my name, and then she asked about my birthdate. I said I did not want to provide that information. She said, "We need it to verify who you are." I reminded her that since I am not on any accounts there and they have no information about me, the information could only be recorded, not verified, and that my date of birth wasn't any of their business, but I'd be happy to tell her supervisor that if she couldn't help me without it. She suddenly shifted into treating me with kid gloves, too, but I'd rather someone do that than be intrusive. I got the answers I needed.
