Sleeping is good, it is never bad. When we sleep, we rest our body and mind so we are refreshed to do things the most positive way. At least 8 hours of sleep is necessary for all ages but children should sleep more.

For a child of less than five, ten hours is good enough, but for adult seven to eight hours is good. For an old man like my father, he doesn't seem to need that much sleep because he gets up very early in the morning, as early as three a.m. But he takes a nap. For me, I need to sleep for eight hours and that will make me energetic. I hate it when I do not have enough sleep as it affects my next-day activity or work. Take care, dilarajj.

@dilrajj I think that most doctors here in the US say we need 8-10 hours sleep. My doctor says that for my age, I need at least 7 hours but 8 would be better. Unfortunately, I rarely ever come close to those numbers. People generally look at sleep as just a time to rest the body, but it is much more than that. Without proper sleep, and the right kind of sleep, our entire well being will be poorly affected. You need sleep for proper brain function just as much as you need proper nutrition for it. You risk problems with your immune system if you are not getting enough sleep. You are at an increased risk for diseases such as diabetes and heart disease if you are not getting enough sleep every night. Children of school age (5-12) years old need 10-11 hours of sleep. From the teen years (12-18) the suggestion is for 8.5-10 hours, and for all adults over 18, it is said that you need 7.5-9 hours nightly in order to keep mind, body, and spirit in proper working order. I hope this helps.

I couldn't say exact numbers and it depends on the person, but in my opinion kids should sleep at least 10 hours. It's very painful when they don't get in bed in time as then they can't get up in the morning. Some adults can do well with 5-6 hours of sleep, I did that too, but now I need more, at least 8 hours. From older people I heard that as they age and become less active, they need to sleep less. My older family members wake up quite early in the morning.

I am not sure but some doctors who are dealing with such stuff recommends sleeping for 6 hour for adult. For children it should be longer because in growth. I sleep much longer this time and It is not so good because I feel much more tired during the day and takes a fly to wake up and be ready for daily situation. For older people i really do not know how recommendation sounds but according my observation they sleep more time per day so amout can be like 10 hour.

8 hrs is good, however you get THE BEST sleep when you go to sleep when the sun goes down and wake up when the sun comes up. (I'm serious)

I have always thought that 8 hours per sleep each night is a good round healthly number for most. I am 62, and for myself, I go to sleep at 11 or 12 and rise and shine about 6:30 to 7:30 whenever is necessary for the schedule. Let's see that would be 7 or 8 hours. What I understand is even if it is 5 hours a night and you do it every night and it is a good hard peaceful sleep--that is good for you, but if you are used to 8 per night, they need to be 8 good hours not 2 barely sleeping and 4 sleeping good, so on and so forth. It all depends on the quality of sleep you are getting.

Hi chrystaltears, Thank you for you reply. You response regarding sleeping length that eight (8) hours per sleep each night is a good for health but you not mentioned this for what age of this length is required. you mentioned for your self, as your age is 62 years,11 or 12 hours. This length of sleeping is may be good for your health.

Hi there. YES sleeping time and length of sleep from age to age varies. Most of the infant sleep all day, or about 18hours a day, that is normal to them. For they need it to grow. For toddlers they sleep for about 10 hours, for young children, 8-10 hours is still healthy, but I am not sure with the aged one. But I know for sure that over sleep or even less sleep could mean harm to our health.

The pattern of sleeping depends on the age, and lifestyle involved. As you will observe the most long sleep pattern style occurs in the infant stage because they have no more other related activities to do, and the mere reason this is the time of their growing years to help their body grow and become mature. In the adults, it is more of lifestyle, an adequate sleep is best advised from 6-8 hours per cycle/day. This is because, at that period of sleep, the body has able to meet the relaxation period from the other activities you have consumed. All your organs in different functions will also subside in its activities. So, it is more of storing energy in preparation for the next day to sustain your activities.

As you grow older, the number of hours that you should sleep decreases. School aged children should sleep for 10 to 11 hours while an adult should atleast sleep for 7-9 hours.

8 hours is good one. But for me it is not enough. I usually sleep for almost 9 or 10 hours. Which I find not good, but for my part i feel great after that.
