Would you have a problem with it?

I didn't say anything to her about it. But I thought it was disgusting. So my bathtub was clogged as was my bathroom sink. It was like that when I moved in, and it has continued to be a problem even though I quit using my bathroom sink and instead only use my kitchen sink. So the mainentance woman (nice woman) came by to fix it. She had just unclogged someone's toilet in another apartment. So she spends ten minutes in my bathroom fixing the sink and tub. She comes into my living room and wants to get my dog to come to her. So she puts her toilet plunger down on my carpet and tries to get Annabelle to come to her. Yes, you read that right. She put the toilet plunger - which she had just used on someone's toilet- on my carpet. I just stared at it for a minute. So after about a minute Annabelle won't come to her and she picks up her plunger (once again, she didn't use it to fix anything of mine, but someone else's) and leaves. I immediately go and get something to scrub my carpet where she placed the plunger. That's gross, right? I mean she just put a plunger that has been in poop filled toilets on my carpet. Maybe she put water on it, but that doesn't get rid of the germs! She's married and has kids, so it's not like she isn't aware of the germs of the world. What do you guys think? She is great at her job, I just can't believe anyone would do anything so gross. And kind of inconsiderate.

She probably just didn't think about it, especially if she's been plunging toilets for a really long time, it's probably something that doesn't really gross her out anymore, you know.

Ewwww, Ewwww, Ewwww... That is disgusting..Though I probably would do what you did, wait until she left and then sanitize my carpet, but I wonder if perhaps if you had quickly grabbed a trash bag or even one of those plastic grocery bags, and placed the plunger on top, if she would get the hint.. Then again maybe what you did is the best, after all you don't expect her back anytime soon do you? If so, then I would grab a bag and ask is she would mind putting the plunger inside while she is not using it. Which brings me around to this, what did she do with the plunger while working on your sink? Time to sterilize the bathroom!!!

I agree w/ Kat. She probably wasn't thinking about it and just wanted to get the attention of your dog. I' be livid if it was dripping poo or something but I think a spray of lysol over the spot should do.

I am really not sure what to say. I would have to assume that if she was so careless to just put the plunger on your carpet that either she wasn't thinking or it was a clean sterile plunger. If she brought it in, why didn't she use it? That is one question I have.

oh thats just gross, gross!! lets hope you dont have to have anything else fixed at the same time as she has just came from fixing a toilet. yuck!! some people just dont care and maybe Annabelle sensed something nasty about her or else sensed your disapproval. i noticed some of our animals/pets sense such things from us. My late dog, Bear did that. he was friendly with everyone and only offered to growl at one person and it was a woman that i didnt like.

I'm glad it wasn't in my head, but that it really was as gross as I thought.

Yech. I wouldn't have reacted well, no matter how nice she may be. I try to remedy things without maintenance people. I don't want some random plunger used in my bathroom. I don't want to wait hours or even days for something to be fixed when it would take my boyfriend and/or I just minutes to remedy the problem. I'm not really wired to be a tenant. I hate not being able to just do what I want with a space.

I wouldn't be in an apartment if I could help it. In my case, the plunger wasn't even for my problem. She brought it over with her when she fixed someone else's toilet. My sink wouldn't drain water, and black gunk would come up and fill the sink. This has happened I don't know how many times. She always unscrews the pipe and drains the nasty liquid. And then it just happens again. I quit using that sink because it is neverending. Yet over and over the water just comes up into the sink. And I live on the top floor!

I think this is terrible and would have scrubbed the carpet also. Its hard to believe that she wouldn't think about where its been at least once at the neighbors. Sorry this happened to you now.

I will bet money she didn't even think when she set it down...she was trying to get Annebelle's attention so she just put it down. I do think it's disgusting.....yuck....but lay you odds it was just something that happened...

If she had just moved one foot over to where my entrance way is...there is parquet flooring there. I can easily clean that.

If she ever stops by with plunger in hand again, maybe ask if she wants a plastic bag to put it in? Not knowing if she washed her hands, I wouldn't have wanted her touching my pet either, let alone anything else in my home.

AmbiePam: I would not have appreciated this either. I think that it is not only gross, but disrespectful. I would have had to tell this woman to kindly remove her plunger off my carpet.

i know sounds gross but sometimes people do things unintentionally that freaks us out. I like to keep my small apartment spotless, so in the morning i would sweep and mop the floor, and since i live in the tropics and in the metropolis dust is inevitable. at noon time i sweep the floor again and again at night and then mop it all over again. I have hairy dogs too so, i make sure that hair is none to minimal. call me oc but that's how i run my humble home.... my sis lives with me and hubby and both of them are quite messy that freaks me out and i think is very inconsiderate especially after you have tried to keep the whole unit clean. it drives me nutts and make me sound like a nag. but i would not be noisy if they just help maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the apartment. sis do not pick up her hair from the drain after bathing, hubby throws his stuff on the floor in the living room and i always end tripping on it, and i have to pick it up and place it where it should be.they always like to use dry glasses but does not care to wash what they use and line up the sink with used glasses. not gross however very inconsiderate and very irritating, it feels like i have two small kids i have to pick up after.....

oh poor Ambie, I sooo feel with you. I would have run and gotten the scrub as well as soon as whe was out. There are more such nice but inconsiderate people around and I would not have said a word but done as you did. Sometimes I also ask myself, where is the common sense of these people.

That is a bit disturbing. As I get older I see more and more disturbing things. I also think of carpet as being a great germ carrier as well. I think I would have offered her a grocery sack to put over the plunger or even an ice cream bucket if I had one. At one of my jobs my girls often had to plunge their toilet and they kept an ice cream bucket to put the plunger in. I think I would have sprayed peroxide on the carpet, as it does not leave residue that will attract soil. Second choice would be an oxi clean cleaner.

OHHH!!! Yuckie...yuckie, that is GROSS, Ambie! Her mind must have absolutely been elsewhere! it's over now...you can't unring a bell...but, sheez, I think I would have had trouble containing my stomachs comments, as I tediously scrubbed the carpet. Just the images of that have me off kilter! And a hole in the carpet...LOL! I think I would stop her at the door, next time! Thought I should mention to you to, Ambie...Canadian Womens Curling Championships are on TSN, right now...a real great field of competitors!

That is gross. I would have scrubbed it too. I can't imagine the look on your face..I am surprised she didn't pick up on it. Sometimes people get so used to using certain items or doing certain things that they forget what it must look like to other people. It's still gross though.
