This may sound sort of bad but I'm a little scared of aging and getting older. The one thing that terrifies me is getting Alzheimer's. I see tv shows and movies and it's such a sad disease and I even learned about it in class.
I want to do everything possible while I'm young that could potentially prevent Alzheimer's in the future.
The thought of forgetting things and not being capable of doing things on my own really scares me. I'll do anything possible to prevent it now because it truly terrifies me when I think about it.
I know I can't worry about things like that because the list would be endless. I'm not scared of everything though, there are just a few things that really worry me about getting older.

Stay active mentally by doing activities like reading, solving puzzles like crossword puzzle.
Stay active physically with exercise.
Eat variety of green vegetables especially that is rich in Vitamin B12 which is good for memory.
Take antioxident rich food.
Don't dry up your brain.
Cook with spices especially little turmeric and pepper. Pepper helps to take oxygen to brain.

Thanks, those are some good tips. I'll definitely have to start doing more of those things. I already do crosswords and other mental puzzles like that.

Perhaps it's my love of hot, spicy food that keeps my mind from total deterioration?!! I love hot chili peppers and crushed red peppers and hot spicy Asian and Mexican food! And tomatoes, they are rich in antioxidents.

Nobody wants to get old but it is natural phenomena and nobody can get control on it.but if you afraid only for some disease then don't worry about them because now days there every things could happen with you and it does not matter with your age.but if wanted that no disease can touch you then try to make schedule of your days, eat healthy ,live clean ,do exercise that all.

Oh, my. You're young to be worrying about such things. Rather than let your fears bother you, use them to inspire you to take good care of yourself. My mom had Alzheimer's so the thought has crossed my mind, too. Since I'm 66, I'm a lot closer to it than you.
Someone said to keep your mind active, and you should, but I've read where one needs to be physically active also. Pay attention to what you eat and drink and live as healthily as you can.
Getting older can be a challenge in some ways, but it has its benefits, believe me.

courtknee525, read up on it and do what you can. As I said, stay physically and mentally active. Try to eat organic foods and limit aluminum in your diet. They don't really know if or what causes it, but try to cover everything.
timetravel, my Mom didn't show signs until she was in her 70s, so I can't be sure. I am doing what I can to prevent it, but time will tell.

I have, since it's something I worry about, I want to find ways to help possibly prevent it in the future. I'm totally willing to start now and help save my body and protect it against disease.

If you are sixty six, peavey, and showing no signs - you are probably okay. My mother - who potentially had it - we'll never really know if it was mini strokes or not - we started nothing things when she was younger than 66 - such as appearing "foggy" at times when in a familiar place. Little things, like that. But it was really hindsight that we remembered that stuff.

I am 55, soon to be 56. The round number ages didn't bother me too much until now, when I realize half my life is over. And I'm now on the "wrong" side of 60. That is frightening! It's also frightening that I don't remember things as easily as I once did. But you know what's weird? I really don't feel any different inside than I did when I was 50, 40, 30, 20, and 10. My mind still feels the same - as if I have boundless energy and knowledge and am unlimited by a body or a brain. Yet when faced with my own failings as I age - reality hits. I set something down and two minutes later can't remember where I put it. I write notes to myself so I don't forget to do something.

That can be a scary thought sometimes. But don't worry about forgetting little things Ike that, in one of my psychology classes we discussed the brain as we got older and that it's normal to forget little things just because the brain is changing and isn't as young as it used to be.

About that...
Just eat fish twice at week (oily fresh one possibly);
Train your brain, logic games, learn new languages, change your usual schedule, even trying to brush your teeths with your left hand sometimes just to get out of your schedule and stimulate your brains.
There are more ways on the internet, but in general the secret is to not let your brains be "idle".
About getting old... Would you want to play the same game forever and stay on the same level forever for as good as the game might be? Think about it.
Other than the fact that the life is not a perfect game, but think about your favorite game...
My favorite game is Skyrim, for as much as I love that game, there's a beginning and an ending, At first ("young age") you'll play a lot, you'll like it so much that you think that you'll never quit it not even for a second.
But then, after days (or weeks) you'll start getting tired of it, play less and less until you eventually will end all quests and you'll see no point in playing it anymore.
See the point? That "phobia" of yours is only temporany, as you'll get old that phobia will fade away, so don't think about it, think about completing your "quests" (Which in real life are dreams, goals, etc.)

I loved the way you explained that lol. I don't mind getting older as long as I feel like my life has been fulfilling. But the thing that scares me is Alzheimer's. If I start doing things now to prevent it, I might be able to save my brain in the future.

Haha xD.
Yeah well keeping your brain healthy is as important as keeping your body healthy, it's part of your "objectives" in life, like a side-quest to do among the main ones, it's optional but if you do it you won't regret later on. (Ok yes, I admit it, I'm a gamer.)
But seriously, don't make that problem affect your life, It would be bad if everyday you worry about that disease, because years will pass and you'll still worry about it and maybe you won't even get it but you passed so many years worrying for it that you won't even know the difference anymore.
Just live the life the best you can, experience a lot, be always happy and adapt yourself to good habits and "erase" bad ones, takes a few days to get used but once you do, you'll see all good habits as a normal thing.

I used to be the same way. My biggest fear was growing old, alone. When the time was right, I met my husband and now we have a family :) If I sat back and worried constantly about the what ifs of life, I would be throwing my life away with worry. I want to stick around for as long as possible, while knowing who I am, and who my children are. So I make sure to lead a healthy lifestyle. Its all anyone can really do. Unfortunately, nothing in life is guaranteed, but I hope you are able to enjoy today and everyday remembering who you are and achieving all you want to in life

I'm not actually scared of getting old. I know that diabetes and hypertension and cancer run in my family, but I am not alarmed. I know that the first two are lifestyle diseases, and sometimes cancer too, so I just have to watch my diet and be more physically active. Amongst my sibling, I don't have hypertension and diabetes even if my two older brothers already have them. I love to walk and don't like rich and fatty foods. Rather than focus on what would come, I would still like to travel and see some places while I still can. This made me think about what my friends and I said when we went on our out of town trip last week that we should travel to places while we could still walk.

Yes, it can be lifestyle but it's still important to get checked if it runs in the family. So far, I don't think my family's has had alzheimers, but I'm still going to do stuff now to prevent it.

When you really think about it, it does sound scary.
I would also hate for that to happen. To be around your loved ones, yet not recognizing them. Or not being able to do simple, common things.
You shouldn't be worrying too much about it. I am closer to that stage than you. You should enjoy life, you still have so much ahead of you!

I guess it's good to worry about it now though because then I'm able to do more to prevent it. I always try to play games that make my brain think and i have a really good crossword puzzle app on my phone that I go on everyday. It can be a little scary, but luckily there's things we can do to help prevent it and keep ourselves healthier.

Yeah, getting older is a bit scary though but I guess most of us will go to that stage. So the best thing we could do is, make the most of it while we are still young. I think no one can really predicts if one will have Alzheimer's and who are more likely to get it.Some says that keeping your mind busy like doing puzzles and the likes could help in slowing the onset of dementia.

If it's really Alzheimer's disease that your primary concern is, then you should get yourself involved in activities that require critical thinking as much as you can. Try to be more concerned about things that are happening around the world right now, try to ponder about the meaning of life, on how to benefit from it optimally. Do good things to people, take action. However avoid overthinking as it will otherwise put a burden to your brain and you might end up being depressed. Everybody ages, and it could never be avoided.
I believe that the best of people are the ones who benefit others most. "...so that when the fateful day does come when I'm six feet in the ground - the poor and the weak and the orphan and meek will miss having me around..." as a favorite song of mine goes :)

We wish that we will be always but is not our control..Sometimes we think that we are to fast to grow and older.
And also we worry of things we do and to think to get us older..
But its okay we try to do things for the good of our future,

Hello courtknee,
I too fear to become old as i know in old age people do become dependent on others and if they find support of their owns they go through this stage comfortably but when they don't have support then the life really becomes miserable.Yes in old age body becomes weak as person suffers from several diseases and it becomes difficult to do our own work ourself and we have to depend on others. But can't help it as one has to go through this phase only thing one can do is to stay healthy.

It is nothing to worry or concern about our age. This humor and a fate that we should go through and no stop button or pause it. I strongly believe our maturity is gain day to day if getting old, are you are this?
The one which sweet memories will be along and follow along your life path go. Sometime, i craved to meet my old friends that have lost contact until now. But i just have a sweet memories that to remember.
Thus, don't scare about the old, and don't take a time to think of the age and so many stuff that we as human have to do every each seconds in our life.
