So as you know I sell Avon and I have been going to meetings, sales meetings. Some of the people there tell me samples of products are a must. spend the money and you will more then make it back. My sister in law who has sold for years and a few others have told me not to unless doing a home show. I have bought some and other then once I have not actually had anyone but what I was giving out as a sample. Question is did I buy wrong samples? Are samples better to have then not? If I was selling to you would sample make a difference?

I also sell Avon and I only buy samples if someone says that they are interested in that particular product. When I start making more money from the venture I might start buying samples before someone wants one. Of course if there is something that I want to try for myself I will probably buy a sample set just for myself. Good luck with your business.

My daughter tried Avon, but couldn't get the customers. People just don't have money for that now-a-days. Plus..people have told her they don't like paying and then waiting a week or two go get the product. They say they forget they ordered and then went out and bought something else.
But what she did, was get the samples for the newest things like the face creams and perfumes etc. Things that are not "gotta have it every single day" stuff, that the waiting time wouldn't effect. She did okay on some of the creams and such, but then the people just stopped buying all together cause they didn't have the money.
Good luck and hope it works out for you. EVery penny helps!

I tried selling Avon (and Fuller Brush products AND Cutco Knives!) when I was 17, 18, 19 years old. I failed miserably at every one of those ventures. You know why? Like coffeebreak said-people don't want to wait! In 2005, I bought a starter kit from Slumber Parties (adult products). The company believes that when you carry stock, you'll do better selling. I half-believe that because yes, women like to receive their products RIGHT THEN, but how do you know what your clientel actually wants? I spent thousands of dollars on the right product but I also spent about ten thousand dollars on the WRONG PRODUCT . I left about a year ago and I've got a bunch of stuff I can't use that I'm going to eBay soon to get some of my investment back.

Mhy mom used to sell Avon, but she was not making much money. I know that she used to buy a few samples and also had to buy each book. I had thought about selling Avon, but I am not sure if I can make money on it. Money is tight right now and I am really trying to watch my spending.

i also plan to sell avon products before but my friend told me that she's not earning that much money but i think it depends on the person, if the seller is good on sales talk and selling then the seller might earn more.

I can only speak for me..but I am not a good barometer, as I buy little in the cosmetic line (forgot...your products have expanded way beyond that)but when it comes to "skin apps" I need to have a sample...as so many products I have adverse reactions to...and also, many perfumes end up being very disgusting on me in a short period of time!
I think your answer might lie in the fact..that all products in the cosmetic line are sampled in stores...BUT, I just don't know where the cash outlay would come from! NOT much of an answer...but there are lots of brilliant people here!

It would to me. I love getting samples and trying on a fragrance. Sometimes it changes with your body chemistry so I think its nice to be able to try it before I buy it. I don't know if you got the wrong ones or not...I tried to sell Avon a long time ago but it didn't work out for me.

I read about 2 weeks ago that Avon was having financial problems. THe CEO's etc had spent money they shouldn't have or something like that...stock was way down and they had no plan to recoop.

I agree with jillhill-a sample like fragrance changes with your body chemistry. Lipsticks too-lipstick is a staple for many women. Any other samples, I would only include with purchases and even consider a purchase minimum to "earn" them. You're working hard to gain repeat customers.

I would love to have a free sample of something i am interested in before I but. Then if I like it I will buy it. It is expensive and you don't see most companies doing this. I would buy some sample of the more expensive and new products like perfumes and anti-aging products. Even if the customer isn't buying these things they might be more apt to if they had a sample.

It's always sweet to our ears when we hear will be making good or earning more if will buy these samples or discounted items but later we will realize the company is so wise that they're not only gaining from our customers but also from us agents as well. I remember in tupperware when I was so active I also keep on buying these offers of 50 percent discounted items as according to many, I'll be earning good but I experienced the same, I got plenty of these items that instead of earning am loosing. Better not mind this samples or discounted items.

I would love to get sample before buying the product for trying. Samples for free are nothing to spend compare to buying the product directly just to try it.
I love make up and where I shop there is always free sample and demo but once I get used and liked the product I stick to it and just buy the same product.

May I ask how many samples you go through before buying something?

I'm also an Avon dealer and I believe that spending money for sample products is good but we have to limit it in accordance with our sales or else we might have a negative profit.

Sometimes if I still have enough credit limit I do purchase sale packages or discounted product offers and that's what I use for samples.

i rarely buy cosmetics of any kind, but on the rare occasions that I have it was because I was able to sample it first.
