My daughter started school for the first time at the end of January & I started a new job at the beginning of February...I have gone back to cleaning as it's a job where I won't be mentally drained as well as physically drained...I don't mind the work but I am already looking into doing different jobs which i have applied for at my daughter's school...
I have noticed that with my cleaning job, most of the houses we clean are already clean!! Why would you pay a cleaner to come every week when your house is already clean?? The company I work for not only does domestic cleans but they also do offices & builders cleans...personally, I prefer to do builders cleans because it's a "clean" dirt I guess you could say....
For all those cleaners here on mylot...do you often come across houses that are already clean? Also, what do you prefer to clean (domestic, commercial or builders)?

heh, that is nice for you.
you get to clean a house that is already clean, wich means not too much hard word for you, and yet you get paid for it :D
nice...
and yeah, the point is not in "cleaning a clean house", the point is in keeping it clean. ;)
(I see some people talking about that, so I`m just mentioning it..)

Are you also a Filipino? Because I think that is the job of my nanny and the mother of my boyfriend as well in USA. That is great job that you are cleaning houses. I don't have any idea if there is difference between cleaning the houses and buildings unless for the sizes of the place. But then I think it is better to clean if you thought it is already clean just to make sure and of course that is an advantage in your case because you can still have the money from them.

Congratulations on the job. I think I prefer physical exhaustion to mental exhaustion myself. I am not a cleaner. I have done cleaning in a nursing home in the past. That is kind of what I like, an existing business. I would have to clean my house before I would ever consider a cleaning agency.

I am glad that I was employed as it would be embarrassing to start a cleaning business with the state my house can get in...Thanks for the congrats.

Well done on getting a job; we all know how difficult this is at the moment so the fact that you have managed to get a job is something that you should be very proud of. I know what you mean about people who have a cleaner and will then clean the house themselves before their cleaner arrives. I have friends who choose to do this, and it makes me laugh because the cleaner is basically getting paid for not doing anything at all as it has already been done before they get there. If you already have a clean house, surely there is no need to be getting a cleaner!

I totally agree, I just don't get it either...one of our clients cleans her kitchen before we get there but does leave us things to do as well.

Hi Moonchild,
I think you should consider yourself lucky for being assigned to clean up places that are still clean, it will take a shorter time to keep it clean and orderly. I'm sure the owners are happy with your job otherwise they won't entrust their homes/property to you. Good luck on your new job.

You have a point there...but we still have to be there in the house for an hour as that is what they are paying for.

Congrats on the job. I have a friend that her house is always spotless and she still cleans it when it does not need it.

I wish i had a spotless house but with 2 dogs, a 4 year old & a husband, it's near impossible. (Plus all my clutter)

I used to clean my mom's landlord house with her once every couple of months. It was never incredibly dirty, it actually LOOKED clean as soon as you stepped through the house, but there was a lot of dusting to do, mopping, and 'little things' that you don't notice right away were a little dirty. But it was never out-of-control dirty like I would sometimes expect it to be. It was easy, but still took us like 3 hours to go over everything. Well, anyway, congratulations on the new job!

Thanks for the congrats...with our work, it takes us 1 hour between the two of us to clean 1 house..but that is a basic clean where we dust, clean the toilets & bathrooms, vacuum & mop.

In my experience, I tried to work at a cleaning company. But my duration's work was only 3 days! I realized that it was for me to work too hard, so I could not. This company was responsible of cleaning the stairs of the doors, step after step I had to clean by hand with a wet rag. At least a dozen buildings a day, at the end, my poor back!
I think however it would be easier to clean in the home, where perhaps it is just to remove a bit of dust or a little more, at least I would prefer.
However I do not believe in my future to devote to cleaning, if possible I would like to do another job.

Oh wow!! I don't think I would have lasted as long as you cleaning all those stairs!! Cleaning is "easy" work as there is no mental exhaustion at the end of the day but it's not for me either so I am already looking for another job but I won't quit until I have another job.
