I know these are not new. but my oldest daughter was saying maybe I should get an Ipod or is it Ipad? she said one would be cheaper and you could take videos and download some books etc. from internet but not make calls. the other is more expensive and you could make calls also. Id like to get the least expensive and be able to video things, but not needed to make calls. when i look on the internet, its all dutch to me. I dont understand any of it. what do you know about these?

Okay, first off it's an iPad she is talking about, not an iPod. With the iPad, there are different ones. They have them with 16 GB up to 64GB. Now, heres the differences. Each one comes to ways, WiFi only and WiFI and 3G. 3G meaning you pay an extra fee with the wireless carrier to use it all over the place and make calls with it. The WiFI only ones are just that. They work on WiFI. WiFI means wireless internet access. And if you took the iPad with you, there are what they call WiFi hotspots all over the place. The iPad2 prices range from 499 all the way up to 899. But you can download books onto it and read them, you could download music and its more. But remember, it is not a computer. You can go online with it and come here to MyLot. All from your sofa. How cool is that.

that is pretty cool. it seems im going to go another way though that will be cheaper. i bought a cord for my daughters camera that they are getting videos on of coco, so thats taken care of. next i will be able to afford a nook i think for reading books and internet things. my son says you can check e-mail, etc. and its wifi. only 150 bucks

Well, if thats your choice then okay. I have seen those nooks. But since I am an Apple fanatic, I will stick with getting an iPad. I am saving for it. And the new iPad already came out last week. Hopefully by the summer I could get one.

Personally, I probably wouldn't get either. Used laptops and digital cameras are really cheap at local pawn shops or at various online sellers. That way if one breaks, you still have the other.

That's advantage of local pawn shops. They are more than happy to let you try them before buying. Mostly what my son has found is that they need batteries. He just uses them plugged in, and saves a bundle. Offseting that slight disadvantage is the fact that most have lots of software loaded.

My daughter has an ipod and it is the size of a cell phone. She can do all those things with it but like I said..it is very small. The Ipad is just bigger. I'm sure there are options with it that the ipod don't have but I don't know what they would be. My daughter does everything with that little ipod. She can even use it to text!

If you want it small, but you don't want it to be cell phone, and you always go for the ipod touch. That's what I have. It's about the size of a cell phone (except a bit thinner and lighter) and it can pick up wifi, has safari and all the usual little programs, plus you can download all sorts of apps for it, too, and all the newest ones have cameras, which you can do photo or video with. The newest ones nowadays cost around $199 (for an 8 gig one, prices go up with size...) Look into it, just search for itouch.

An iPod touch is very similar to the iPhone in that you are able to have apps on it just like you would be able to have with the iPhone, but it is not something that is used to make telephone calls. You can play games on it, read books and if you have one that is wifi enabled, you are able to use the internet for browsing as well. The iPad is a tablet computer. It has a lot of the capabilities of a computer and can be used for recording video as well. However, it is the option that is a lot more expensive of the two.

Everyone has a different opinion of Apple products. I would say neither because they're too expensive (it doesn't cost that much to make one). Another thing you should know is that the iPad is not a computer...common misconception. It can go on the internet but it misses some key computer functions like installing programs from the web, detecting usb items, and running Flash. Someone really can't tell you if it's a good product, you have to try it out for yourself.

see i want to buy something, not as expensive as a phone but can take videos and load stuff. not a laptop size, etc.

It really depends on your primary objective for the product. You sound like you want to do a little bit of video recording and internet browsing. Well, not all phones that can browse the internet are expensive (Mine only cost $10 with my contract). If you really want to take videos a lot, just get a HD camera. If you have access to the internet, you can have access to ebooks through some websites. It might be better to just by seperate products that effectively accomplish what you need.

An Ipad is a computer, that looks like just a screen. An Ipod was intially made for music, photo and video files.

Ipods are for listening to music, playing games and watching videos . Ipads are just computer tablets to do your computer related work. It depends on your needs. For just entertainment you can choose to buy an Ipod but if you need more than that Ipad is great!

iPods are good to dowload your favorite videos and music. I use my phone as an iPod when I walk. I listen to Oandora radio.

An ipad is sort of a small computer with touch screen and without keyboard while an ipod is used to download music and for listening to music. Most probably you daughter is talking about ipad not ipod.

Apple products are always overvaluted. (What's with the dutch? xD Does it mean you find it less comprehensible than Japanese, Chinese, etc.?) Anyway, in short it should be "Iphone and Ipad" and they work just as you said, the first makes calls, etc. and the second doesn't, and it's bigger in size. In internet you most likely found technical details about it that's because you didn't understand anything, you should be luckier if you search for a review of them instead. Everyone has different opinions about them and I can't tell you to buy them or not to, it's your decision. But the truth is those products are mostly known for their brands and not for what they do, there are TONS of better products/as good but different which are not considered as good just because of the brand. That happens often, clothes are all the same right? they have all the same functionality, but their brand makes them being better, even if at the end they are less confortable to wear.

I think she is talking about an Ipad which is a tablet from apple. A tablet is a computer touch screen designed to navigate the web, watch movies videos, read books. and much more. One thing is not cheap, about 500 dollars

An ipod is an mp4, and like other mp4 it reproduces music and videos. You can also use it to play video games. An iphone is an ipod with phone. So basically they added a phone to the ipod and improbve other things. An ipad is a tablet (you can consider it a computer cause a computer is everything that process data automatically, like my calculator :)) What you want is a phone that have mp4, i recomment you other products, because the iphone is not as expensive at it should be, at least that's my opinion. I hope i was helpful.

If you want to do things without calls, get the Ipod it's cheaper, easier to use and it has all the apps that come with the app store. The Ipad is good and everything, but it isn't very ergonomically (:P) suited for your needs. Also, the Ipod is a lot cheaper. :)

i was just talking with C about it. he is knowledgable about new technology stuff since he spends most his time playing on internet etc. and he said likely be better to just buy such things, seperately to do different things.
