In forums such this, do you think we can accurately tell if someone is chatty or quiet in person? When I see many postings from a member, I wonder sometimes if the person would actually be someone quiet in real life. Perhaps writing is an outlet for someone quiet to express their feelings?

@sishy7 Good question actually. An ex friend of mine was very....blah when it came to text talk but in person she could talk quite a bit. I know for myself, I can be both quiet or chatty online and offline. But it depends on who I'm talking to and / or what the subject is about.

@sishy7 I tend to be the listener as well. I'm not usually in the mood for talking unless it's a subject that really intrigues me. I usually find it relaxing listening to people talking around me than having to talk myself.

@sishy7 I can attest to her online interactions. She can talk your ear off if she is on fire or just become a ghost.

I think it is hard to tell whether someone is a chatting or quiet type just by looking at the posting. I think you would probably be able to guess the personality of the person more depending on what type of discussions a person like to post and the type response or comments that she or he respond with.

I'm not really good at reading people's personalities. But I think it's still difficult to know for certain if they are quiet or talkative in real life based on the number of their posts. I mean, there are people who indeed use writing as an outlet. They could express themselves more in writing than when talking. On the other hand, some people who have a few postings doesn't also mean that they're not chatty in real life. There could be other reasons why they aren't able to post that many topics.

Yes, I know what you meant. I forgot to include the totality of a person's participation, and not only the number of his postings. Sorry about that. And I still think that it's quite difficult to tell if a person's chatty or not base on this as what I've previously explained :)

Hi,
I think we can not tell accurately if someone is chatty or quiet in person from his responses or discussions. I am very talkative but I feel sometimes uncomfortable while giving responses but my son is less talkative. But he can express his ideas very well than me.

it could be hard to tell accurately about someone's personality. as for me, yes i am quiet in person, till you get to know me, then i never shut up. :) mylot gives me the opportunity to "speak" to others that i may not say anything in person. plus, having two men in the house, i'm always being overspoken or what i say gets ignored.

Hi sishy7,
I don't think you can tell for sure whether someone is chatty or quiet from the number of posts he or she makes. It could well be a person who is quiet by nature but because he or she wants to earn some money he /she is 'forced' or 'motivated' to write as many posts as possible. But I think there's a high probability that that person is more talkative if he/she writes a lot especially on all kinds of topics. Just my opinion. Have a nice day.

It is a very interesting topic. There exists what you mentioned in this discussion. Someone often post many discussions and give many responses to other's discussion, but they are quiet in real life. The reason is that it is easy to find more topics they love in forums like Mylot than their real life.

So forums such this can be an outlet for those who are having problem socializing in real life. Here they do not have to confront the other party face to face when they are expressing their opinion; something that is probably hard for them to do in real life. Sorry if I don't really make any sense; it's half past midnight here and I should be sleeping already

I am generally a very quiet person, I usually am more of a listener than someone who is chatty you learn much more by listening that you ever could talking is how I think about it.
It's nice to post and get different points of view from various people someone unbiased to the situation.
