The same place or a new place?

My friend and her husband spend their summerholidays in the same town every year and they have done that for about 20 years. My friend likes to return to that place because it a nice place and because she knows many of the other people who also return every summer.
When I travel I do the opposite thing and I prefer to visit a new place every time, because I find it really exciting to explore a new place and I love to visit sights that I have never seen before. I like to walk around in a new city where I don't know what I am going to find around the next corner. I understand that my friend enjoys meeting old friends, and I think that is one of the postitive things about visiting the same place year after year, but I still prefer to visit new places, because I find it more exciting to experience new things.
Do you like to visit the same place every year? What makes you return to that place?
Do you prefer to visit a new place each time you travel? Why do you prefer new places?

If it is near my place or just locally, I wouldn't mind to go back again and again. For example, I always go to Tagaytay and Subic every now and then. It is just 2 to 3 hours drive from our house. For no reason at all, sometimes we just go there to relax and enjoy. Usually if we have visitors, I take them there for a tour. Further south. I have been to Davao a couple of times. I enjoy the scenery there, the people and the food. As for international trips, I have a hard time coming back to places I really like. Because it is so expensive to have an international trip, I would rather spend it on some new destination. Kuala Lumpur is an exemption. I wouldn't mind going there again and again. I use it most of the time as my transit point and usually stop there for a night or 2 just to roam around the city. I really like to travel to new places because I want to explore and learn more. With this, I can compare many cities and choose one among them where I can come back again.

I do the same thing in my local area, there are many places that I have visited several times like the different parts of my island, but I keep going back to those places, because I like them and because they are close to my home.
When I visit places outside my country I usually choose a new place each time, because there are so many places around the world that I would like to visit, and during my life I would like to experience as many countries and cultures as possible. My ultimate dream would be to visit almost every country of the world, but I don't have the money to do that, so I have to pick the countries that I am especially interested in.
I have never been to Malaysia, but Kuala Lumpur is among the places that I would like to visit when I go to Malaysia.

We have the same dream. Unfortunately as I grow older and older, it seems quite impossible to visit almost every country. 10 years ago, my dream was to at least travel to 125 different countries. 5 years ago, I cut it to 75. A few months ago, I told myself 40 countries would do. hahaha... And after the crisis, how I wish I can see even the seven new wonders of the world. hahaha...
I like Kuala Lumpur because I feel like at home there. hehehe... And it is quite cheap compared to Singapore and Hongkong.

Could we have the same friend, lol. I too have a friend who has done the same vacation for 20 years. She and her husband always go every year, they even bought a house there. She says that it is so beautiful and relaxing.
I like to go to different places that I've never been to before. I've been across the country already for the most part. My husband and I want to travel and see Rio. Also we want to go to Ireland someday to visit. That is where my family is from.

That sounds a lot like my friend Like you I prefer to visit new places. I think it is very interesting to visit a place where I have never been before and it gives me new energy to explore an unknown place. Fortuneately my husband feels the same way, so we often visit new places together. So far we have travelled in Europe, but in the future we want to visit Asia. Ireland is one of the European countries where I haven't been yet, but one day I want to go there.

I love that place and many tourist come and visit there because the place is real food as well as the food. But personally, I want to visit other places and will not only focus to one place. I am sure there are more and many beautiful places around the world or just around us not just one place...

If I like a place, I would probably like to go back. I like new places, too, but sometimes on a vacation it is more relaxing to go to someplace I've been before and I know which restaurants are good, when things are open, that kind of thing.

That is true, it can be more relaxing to go back to a place that you already know. When we visit a place where we have been before we know where the different things are and we know where to find the shops, the good restaurants etc, and I think that is one of the advantages about visiting the same place again. When we visit a new place it takes time to get to know that place and find the good places, but I still prefer new places, because I find it really exciting to explore a new place. I love to see things that I haven't seen before and I love to meet new people.

Hi Porcospino
Well, when I used to enjoy travel, I was always confused between the two The places where I had been always brought me fond memories and many a times I felt that okay, the next time I will get to see something more or even repeat visiting some of the already visited ones.
The new places scared me at the start of my journeys as I would always fear that the people I meet will be scary But when I reached the new places, I would enjoy more.
I think this selection to visit an older place or a newer one is dependant on age and the people you travel with. Like when we are young, we all have a tendency to explore new things and as such, going out for a new place seems to be so very right. But as we age, we start to stick with what we already know. But for people who are born travellers, exploring new places is just the way it is.

Yes, the places where we have been bring back fond memories when we return. I experience that when I visit the north of Denmark, because I always spent to my holidays there in my childhood, and my brother, my parents and I have many happy memories from that place. On the other hand it is really exciting to visit new places, because that gives us the chance to see things that we haven't seen before and explore new and interesting places. I don't think that I will get tired of visiting new places, and I imagine that I will still visit new countries when I get old

I like to do both. I love to go to new places that I have never been before. I have never been to New Orleans and I will be going next September for the AARP Convention. I have been researching New Orleans and am very excited about visiting.
But I have also been revisiting places that I have not been back to in many years. I went to Los Angeles last September for the last AARP Convention. I was not very excited because I had lived in Los Angeles many years ago. I had not been there since the 70's but still I had already been. However, I had a really wonderful time. Los Angeles had changed a lot and I saw it as a tourist. I had a very enjoyable stay. I would not want to live there again but I sure enjoyed my vacation.
I can see why you love to explore new places but I can understand why your friend loves to go to the same place every year. I do not think that it is just the place she is going to but reuniting with persons she may not have seen for a year and only sees during her vacation.

Yes, I think that my friend likes to go back to the same place, because she really enjoys talking to her old friends again. The rest of the year they don't meet, and she thinks it is nice to reunite with them in the summer months. I also like to meet old friends again, but it is even more important to me to explore new places.
It is good to hear that you enjoyed your vacation in Los Angeles. It can be interesting to be visit a place again after a long time, because we can see all the changes. Last summer my husband and I visited a Danish town called Hjoerring. I lived there when I was a student and it was interesting to visit the place again, because many things have changed since that time. The house where I used to live was still there, but there were many other changes.
I have never been to the US, but there are many places that I would like to visit one day. Have a great time in New Orleans

I usually like to travel to new places so that we can try out new things. I like to visit new places, see sights I have never seen before and have a new experience. Also, by going to new places we can meet new people, try new an ddifferent cuisine and see different customs and cultures which makes the trip all the more interesting for me. However, we do return to my birth country every few years so that we can visit friends and family but otherwise we like to go to new destinations...

It sounds like we agree about this topic. I also like to visit places where I have never been before, because that gives me the chance to experience new things and meet new people. I love to eat the local food when I visit a new country, it is always interesting to try something that isn't available in my own country. It is also very interesting to experience different cultures and customs in other ways, that is the thing that I like the most about travelling. When I visit a new country I always excited about the new experiences that are waiting for me

I would love to go to different places. Once I've been to one place a few times I would like to visit someplace new and exciting to learn more. I love to walk around and see new sights and explore things around me. I would be able to spend an entire weekend walking around a city like Baltimore exploring the sights and taking pictures. Heck I do that in Pittsburgh where I live.

I also love to visit new places. I think it is really interesting to walk around in a new area and explore the sights and everything else. I don't think that I will ever get tired of that. I like to visit the places in my country where I haven't been yet. I know my country quite well, but I can still find unknown places to explore. I also love to visit other countries and I learn more their cultures. Travelling is one of things that I enjoy most of all.

I have not had the money to go anyplace for so long I think I would love to see a new place at least once and enjoy finding new things I have never seen before. I am using a walker bu t even people like me can find ways to have a vacation surely if we just had the money. I also love to go down to Newport Beach and eat at charlie's chili and walk alone the beach or up on the concrete thingy where the viewmachines are for quarters you can look way off across the ocean.thats just five forty for round trip down and back on access bus.

Unfortuneately a lack of money often prevent us from visiting new places. I often wish that I had lots of money to spend on travelling, that is my dream. My husband and I are trying to cut back on the money that we spend so that we will be able to travel to Asia in the future. Newport Beach sounds like a nice place to visit. I have never been to California, but I hope to visit the US one day. I would like to go to California, Florida and many other places.

That sounds very nice. I can imagine that it is a great feeling to spend your vacation with family members that you don't see very often. In my family we don't have that kind of tradition, but I like the idea. My brother and I used to have a close relationship, but today we live in different parts of the country and we don't meet that often anymore.

I prefer to visit or spend vacations at a new place every year. I had already discussed it to my husband that since we don't have a baby yet, perhaps it's best to spend an out of town vacation at least once a year. I prefer that the vacation is out of the country. Sometimes though, we ended up having a vacation within the country only considering the huge amount we needed to save for out of the country travels. It's really wonderful to be visiting new places every now and then, knowing their culture and also get to visit their beauty spots. (,")

I also prefer a vacation in another country, but sometimes we stay in our own country because it is cheaper than visiting another country. Like you I think that is wonderful to visit new places and experience other cultures. Right now my husband and I are saving up for a trip to Asia. We live in Europe and we have never been to Asia before, so we are really excited about our vacation in Asia. We don't have enough money yet, but one day our dream will come true.

I am one of those people who like both. Having a personal paradise and exploring the world. I need a base but I also have the need to know our planet.

I think that is good to have a base and explore the world as well. There are a lot of interesting places on our planet, and I would love to visit every continent during my life, that is my dream. On the other hand it is also important for me to have a nice place to stay when I am not travelling.

the place where we are in doesnot matter... how much happiness they are having between them and the love they having between each others gives the true happieess and it will show the true love.. so that place whether it is same or new it doesnot matter....

I think it is true that the happiness we feel and the relationship between us is more important that the place that we choose to visit. We are unhappy or if we have realtionship problems we are not going to enjoy the place the we visit and in that situation is doesn't matter if we visit the same place or a new place.

Every year in my life is very different. Sometimes I cant go on holiday, but sometimes I have the opportunity to spent few days and usually never on the same place twice.
On one hand, it is great to visit a lot of places and to have memories with different peoples and landscapes.
On the other hand, I wish to go back where I had some special moments.
After all I prefer new places.

I also think that it is great to have to memories from many different places and meet many different people. I think that every place and every country is an interesting experience and I love to think about my trips and the places I have visited in the past. I hope to visit many other places in the future. On the other hand can also be nice to go back to a place where we spent many wonderful moments in the past. I feel that way when I visit the north of Denmark because I used to be very happy there.
