I have depression and have been dealing with it for 5 years now. I was in an abusive relationship at 18 years and ever since then I have been dealing with depression off and on. I have been out of that relationship for 4 years now but the pain still lingers. I know that's not the only thing that has contributed to my depression but I do believe that is at the core of it. I have tried talking to a therapist but its so hard for me to open up about the pain I experienced. I have been taking anti- depressants for about a year and I don't want to take them for ever. When I go off the medication I go into a depression and when I am on them I have generally happy. I want to know how do you deal with days when you feel depressed.

The better way to handle the depression is to go to a nice movie with your friends... dont be silent it will increase your depression and feelings... try to tell your fellings to someone who cares you more... this is the way i will handle my depression

I have been trying to get out and hang out with friends. I keep putting it off. I am going to try to hang with friends, maybe this weekend. Thanks for commenting.

I've been thinking about starting a new hobby. When I talk to someone who I am close with about the abuse I experienced, they get so mad. By the end of the conversation I am the one has to com them down. Thanks for your comment.

My depression isn't severe; but I'd say it's debilitating, because it's interfered with my progress in life, socially, economically, professionally. I consider myself to be a sufferer from chronic low-grade depression; but not major depression, which is much more severe. Mine is highly tolerable, and within it I'm capable of being quite happy. However, it makes me retreat from life, because I suffer from low energy levels and enthusiasm. I've recently tried to find a solution to it, due to a variety of issues, including financial, and health problems. Occasionally, I'll suffer lows; and if I have enough energy at these times, I'll try and lose myself in some kind of work or creativity, to work the depression out, as it were. At other times, the lows are severe enough that I have little energy; and I might try and find someone willing to listen to me on the telephone. Also, I have my strong Christian faith: I've been known to pray during low periods. Or ask others to pray for me.

I am sorry to hear that you have been ill these years. Me too, a depressed woman because of love, unable to lead a normal life till now. I have been taking medicines but once a while I will stop it to clear my body, when I stop all the symptoms came in and I found it difficult to handle. Like you, I don't want to rely on medicines forever. I know since you find it in 5 years, why don't you skip your medicines and eat it only when you need it?

I did not know this until I did some research but I had major depression while pastoring in my earlier years. God got me out w/o meds. Here is some things I learned:

most of the people feel depressed in their everyday life and coping with it is the hardest part.. if you feel depressed in every relationship that you have, better not to enter in any relationship at the moment. spend more time on yourself on how to make you feel better. try to make friends with other people and let the good vibes surrounds you.. always think positive and never think about your depression problems.. remember life is too short so you better live it to the fullest with happy thoughts =).. happy my lotting..

I'm so sorry to hear that. No one wanted to be in this kind of situation. I had read what depression is and why it occurs. When I am sad, I just think that it is just a challenge for me.
Anti-depressants take effects after two weeks. There is also another therapy for Depression and that is the Electro conculsive Therapy. You can ask your Psychiatrist if you can be on that Therapy.
I do believe in order for us to stay out of Depression one must have a positive outlook on life and always be happy.

I am sorry you have suffered abuse and I am sure it's very difficult to deal with but, you do have to focus on the positives in your life. If you have your health (physical if not mental)and are out of that bad relationship, then these are all good things and you should feel happy about this. I too have bouts of depression but I realise that feeling miserable doesn't help. Medication is great in the short term but it's not the long term answer. Hopefully you can wean yourself off the meds and life will be a dream sweetheart.

I think you need to make yourself busy with a lot of things so that your thoughts will be occupied of the exciting things that you want to accomplish and after a long day you are tired and no time to think of any sad part of your life and just went to bed a sleep so so deep.

When i am depressed i just make myself busy or go out with your friends so that you can forget the things that get you depressed. But the best way to take out depression is to pray and talk to God. I hope you get well soon.
