How much exercise? Be honest!

I am fairly slim and I am happy with my body. I follow a plant based diet (vegan) and therefore don't really need to exercise as everything I eat is low fat. However, even slim people need exercise for fitness. Exercise is necessary for circulation, oxygen, bone strength, releasing seratonin (feel good chemicals) and much more. The only real exercise I get is when I walk my dogs or when I take the stairs instead of the lift and now that I am getting older (29 this year) I am becoming more concerned with my long term health. I do have a bike and as soon as I have a helmet I plan to ride around a lot more.
So how much exercise do you do? Do you walk to the bus or train station instead of drive? Take the stairs instead of the lifts? Walk the dogs? Mow the property? Gym? Sport? Be honest! Do you wish you did more? What is stopping you?

Even if you are sli and a vegan, your body still needs exercise. Exercise not only improves blood circulation through cardiovascular training but tones the muscles as well. You are right when you say that exercise releases serotonin (the feel good hormone). That is the main reason I exercise daily. To know more on how much exercise you should get, read this article at http://heartdisease.about.com/cs/exercise/a/enoughexercise.htm.

Well, as of late, I have not been able to go to the gym for financial reasons. Also, I am moving soon, and my schedule is so tied up that I barely have time to sleep, let alone exercise. I like the gym because that is where all of the weights are. Somewhere between, work, school, volunteering, football, and the weights, I have turned myself into a weightlifting monster. The problem with gyms around here is that the locations in the city close early, and my only free time is late at night. The locations that are open late at night are too far to travel. Before, I used to ride a bike or walk to get to places, but the bike was stolen, and the public transportation system is so bad that impossible would sound optimistic. Most of the time, I am walking around with art supplies, carrying them up and down stairs, and some times, leg exercises with my car (I push my car for my health, though now it is not so heavy to do such). Once I am settled into my new place, I will return to my weightlifting heavier and harder, and replace my bike. My goal is to get bigger and stronger, become a musclebound gorilla. I know everyone was to lose weight and be slimmer, but for me, I love the big muscles, the brute strength, and the level of confidence that comes with having so much power. Hopefully, if I find a place that has some space, I can do some of that strength training at homelike tire flipping, but I can also start with more basic cardio exercises (though I dread it) until I get back into heavy lifting.

I walk and run a lot. Sometimes, I even play a little soccer! But, I'm still kinda overweight, but that's thanks to my diet! There's a good number of veggies in my diet and it's not the same stuff everyday, it's a variety so I should be healthy. But, I eat lots of carbohydrates and white bread! Maybe I should lay off the good stuff and keep up the exercise and I'll be back to good health again! There is a diet which can help reduce your weight by 10 kilograms in a week, but you require some serious determination to last! Good to hear you're healthy! You bought a bike without a helmet? :P

I take no exercise either. I am slim and always think that I am young and healthy, but last year the doctor found I got cyst of kidney during a routine physical examination. I realized exercise is so important so I began to do exercise, such as running and push-ups. But it didn't last long because of my lack of perseverane.
Now I still do not exercise. I wish I could did more.

Well, I really needed to exercise badly. We do not have a dog and so it is all too easy not to get out and about particularly in the bad weather. But what I have done it get myself a Wii console with an exercise game on it and so far I have used it every day and feeling quite a bit fitter too. It doesn't matter if it rains or not, every day at the same time around mid-afternoon, I turn on my Wii and to about 45 minutes. It not ony exercises my body but helps me with my concentration too, as you most of the exercises involved music or balance - on the Wii balance board - and targets certian muscle areas. I wouldn't say that I am losing weight with this, but I don't need to lose a great deal, as fitness is my main aim here. _Derek

I try to exercise every day but it's difficult. I have scoliosis and it's about a 30% curve and is very painful when I stand more than a couple of minutes. It helps to hold onto something so pushing a shopping cart around is great for me--I just have to be careful to shop and not buy! I go up and down the stairs every chance a get and will make several trips instead of just one. Then there are the exercises for my back. I can't work out long enough to break a sweat but I do burn some calories.
I can remember how good it felt to run and do cartwheels and ride my bike all over town but I'm 57 now and those days are probably long gone. I'll be happy if I can achieve more mobility without pain.

I run a farm, so feel no need to take additional exercise at all. Different types of exercise use different parts of the body though, so there would probably be things I could do which would improve my fitness overall. I'm stronger than average, I think, but as I get older I can't do as much cardio type work. I have a problem with my pelvis, so I could probably do with finding some exercises that would help with strengthening those muscles specifically.

I am still slim to average for my height, even after having a child. I just turned 31 and my metabolism is starting to slow down a little bit. In the past month or so, I have become more active. My family and I joined the YMCA in town. It offers free child care, so my husband and I can workout together.
In my everyday life, I walk our dog daily, I play with our three year old. I work in a two story school and am up and down the stairs a minimum of a dozen times a days. There is yard work to be done over the next couple of weeks
At the gym, I take an Ab and Arms class that is 45 minutes twice a week. I also take at least two cardio classes a week, sometimes spinning, sometimes zumba or cardio kickboxing.
At this point, I am not willing to drastically change my diet just to lose a few pounds.

TeeHee, right now i'm exercising my fingers to type faster, yes, i do take public transports to get to my destination, pretty much healthy for me, weekends on saturday i only do jogging at about at least 2 rounds in this big park, things that stop me are pretty much things that simply made me think that it's stopping me, like for instance, doing my homework on a weekends when i do know i could have done it straight after school , so that i have time to exercise for the weekends, but then again, i'm slim, average what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of person, In other words i'm normal. :)

I must be honest since I have had a computer I don't do nearly enough, I did start a daily walk but these days it is just not safe to walk in the streets so I have been going to our local zoo to walk but that is only about once a week so I am not really getting enough.
