If you could live forever

Some people think that in the future we may find a way to beat death. But would we want to? Would anyone really want to live forever, be immortal? Have some kind of technology forever keeping your body alive and your mind still here doing its thing. What do you think? If the government came to you today and said do you want to be the first to try this new technology to make you live forever, would you do it?

Scientists don't understand why we age or get sick. They know that the problems is in the genes. So there is a possibility of living forever if the genetic problem is corrected. They think that one day they will be able to do it.
From the Biblical point of view, that Bible does promise everlasting life. I personally have no problem living forever as a man that feels and looks around 30 years old.
I love life!

A genetic problem? I don't know if I would of put it that way but that's interesting. I would say more of a genetic purpose, a balance to keep things in check. I think we get sick so we enjoy our health and die so that we enjoy our lives.

I think hopeful man's personality fits his name and that is great. I find your idea of balance to be interesting. I plan to live at least to 100 and there are enough genes in my family that lean that way that I believe it is entirely possible.

@ natnickeep... but some people are born sick and die sick, what is good about that?

I would be more interested if the technology also included making me look and feel younger; mainly look younger since I feel fairly young as it is. I only need a few tweaks in health but some help with sun damage to my skin would be good. Then I could really enjoy living forever. If it only fixed my heath and looks as they are now but after what present technology can do, I still would want to do it. I'm now near through with what I would like to do in my life.

That's an interesting view. I also wouldn't want to live forever in my current health state. I would want my teeth fixed and my knees and I could prob make a list. If I could just have that stuff fixed I would enjoy more the life I have left, immortal or not.

No, I do not think I would do it. If it was real, and everyone did it, or even just a lot of people the world would eventually be way too crowded. Some say it already is. If I was the only one to do it, or one of a few, I would miss all the people I love and I would have no one left. Living is just existing without comfort and love.

Yes I would think it would be torture in a way. And if one person did it everyone would want to and then like you said over population and pollution.

At first, the idea of being able to live foreverf sounds so good and tempting but as you think more about it doesn't appeal much. If were able to live forever then immortality would lose its charm and I just can't think what we would do in centuries upon centuries. A life like this doesn't appeal much. As long as we have a happy and fullfing life, immortality is not really needed..

Risks wouldn't be as fun I guess...knowing you can't die. And life would seem repetitive. And if all of your loved ones are not immortal you would have to see all of them die off.

I would never be able to do this, especially not if it was only selected people that were allowed to have an eternal life on earth. The reason that I don't think that I would be able to do it is because of the fact that I know I would lose a lot of people that I cared for during my existence and something like that would make me a very depressed individual.
With that said, I do believe that we have an eternal existence, just not one that is of this world.

Thats a good question. I think that given the opportunity to live forever that everyone would take it. Thats just the survival instinct in all living creatures. But the problem with living forever would be a problem as far as the population would go. If everone lived forever and more and more births occured then it would not take long for the eart to overpopulate and this would lead to higher crimes, famine and could have disaxterous effects so I am thinking that this is why people do not live forever.

wow this really makes you think lol. i have always woundered what the future might hold but i am not so sure that i would want to live forever. when i first read this i thought "heck yea that would be awesome" but the more i think about it there would be to many people walking around so there would be less jobs and more people struggling in the world. sooner or later there just wouldnt be any more room for anyone else no more land for houses which in return might make some animals in the wildlose their homes because we have to build on that property. so i guess to answer your question if thye came to ask me it would be very tempting and i would have to think about it but in the end i think i would have to turn it down...plus this 1 life i have is hard enough just think if i had to live it forever and ever lol

living in this world is a new experience for each and every day. so i definitely take up the try to know about living forever. Its so exciting to know that i'm gonna try the best invention of the best scientists............ but its only till the technology didn screw up and give a bad effect on the person who uses it

I wanna live long but I don't wanna live forever. I've seen so much of twilight movies that I told myself I don't wanna live like them (the immortals, the vampires)- forever frozen, never moving forward. I rather live a full life and rest in peace happily when the time comes.

good day natnickeep,
to be honest with you, i rather have my life to be short rather than having it forever. if i could only have a choice, i would rather give my life to the person who is much deserving to have a life rather than me. i dont want to live that long. and i dont want to grow old anymore. and if ever the government will offer me the thing you have mentioned, i will just say to them, my sincerest thanks but it is better to give that to much deserving one, and that is not me.

In a world where there is no sickness, famine and wars, yes I would like to live forever. It would be interesting to see our future. But right now I think a lifetime is enough to experience everything, like seeing and losing our loved ones, especially if they can't live forever like us. If I had such a positive way of thinking that I haven't achieved, it could be fun, though.

I don't think I want it. It would go through a lot of pain seeing people who I care die one by one and leave me a stranger on earth. I think if it's possible I just want 150 years old, healthy and strong just like my grandfather who just passed away two years ago. 150 years is long enough for me to enjoy life with my children and grand children.
