Are there any grammatical errors that bug you?

If so, why?I admit that my grammer isn't very good, so I generally pretty easy going with errors. There are some errors that do really bug me though. One thing I honestly cannot stand is when the I is not capitalized when referring to ones self. No matter what I'm writing, even if I need to write very quickly, I need to capitalize the "I." The others are lack of capitalization when beginning a sentance, incorrect usage of "your" and "you're," treating "were" and "we're" as the same word ("Were going to the store. "They were outside.") and the dreaded "Ill" instead of "I'll." Also, while ok if you need to type something quickly, "u" "2" "b" and " k." Though for some odd reason I am not bothered by "c" for "see" and "w" for with. go ahead an comment on all my erors im sure your gonna have done it 2 anyways i sure hope i didnt make any ones or ill be sad k bye

personally I don't like the quickly writing either (let's call it: sms language). I I like to see with capital too but since I am not a native English speaker it's sometimes hard for me to know if the language rules are changed if it comes to writing/speaking. Since this happens in every language. So I try to ignore it here, (it would bother me in my own language) since there are too many people who are not native English speakers and what counts more here is the discussions.

Unless the entire message is botched up beyond recognition I normally cut the person some slack. I understand they can't help it. I still will go through the entire post mentally correcting each mistake. I can't move on in a sentence if the problem hasn't been corrected.

I hate it when people intentionally spell letters with mixed capital and small letters and replace other letters like, "a" with @, or "i" with "!" or "e" with "b" with "3".. eg... "i wuD LyK t0 KnOw MoR3 ab0ut u. cArE 2 t3ll mE yUr N@mE" Annoying...

One that bugs me to the point of distraction is of in place of have after should, could or would, as in "I should of went shopping." *shudder* A lot of grammatical errors bug me, actually but I think they bother me more when they are made by writing professionals. I've seen errors like should of (I don't think that one, specifically, although I can't be sure) in newspaper or magazine articles. I tend to get a lot of grief for my comma usage even though I know I'm using them correctly. Things like any time you use a modifier, it should be set apart by commas. Phrases that can stand alone without the rest of the sentence should be separated by commas. The rule of thumb with introductory phrases is four words or fewer should be separated from the rest of the sentence by a comma, but the reality is commas should be used any time there is a natural break in the flow of the statement. I majored in English in college and worked as a writing tutor for four years. I am not saying I am infallible but I spent a lot of time studying grammar and syntax. I am pretty confident I know what I'm doing.

Honestly. I say "should of" because that's what I've been hearing all my life. I shall change that now:)

I am a writer by nature, so most of the time when I see grammatical errors, they stick out to me like a sore thumb. However, most of the time I don't say anything about it because I still know what the point is that is being made. Now, there is one thing that drives me absolutely insane. That is that one of my friends does not seem to understand that the word guess starts with a g and not with a q. So, when we are texting, I will see quess in our conversations a lot

I don't really have a problem with grammer errors as there are many people who just have problems as far as spelling or grammer and they cannot help it. What does aggravate me though is when I type and I think that I have made no mistakes and I go back and that is when I realize I have a key sticking and I just typed a whole page without an A in it anywhere and I have to go back and redo all of it. It would have to be the most used vowel in the english language. lol

I think the most used vowel is "E."

its not the grammer that bugs me so much it is the spelling and the short forms that people use like 'coz' or cuz' instead of because. to me, it is a very lazy way to use the English language.

I can generally overlook the typos that people make because they can be hard to spot at times and I am bad about that myself. I'm also fairly lenient here on Mylot because people are in a hurry or English is not their first language and some are just learning it. But one grammar error that really bothers me is when people on TV like weathermen or newsmen use real when they should use really. There is a local weatherman here who does it all the time and it is even worse because his wife is a school teacher. I can't claim to have perfect grammar but then I'm not on TV.

I am sitting here trying to think of what annoys me, as I know there is so me that does. I can't really think of any right now. I do go back and try to correct any "i" mistakes as I do find that annoying as it's the easiest grammatical error ever. I hate run on sentences, or used to, but don't really care either way anymore. "k" bothers me, but that's probably the only one that does.

That's a good answer. You don't need a giant list.:)

All grammatical errors bug me, but those which I find the most irritating are when people use a lower case i when it should be capitalised, typing alot instead of a lot, mis-spelling of the word definitely...a lot of people spell it as either definately or defiantly, and the worst for me is misplaced or unnecessary apostrophes. Some people seem to think that all plural words should have an apostrophe, but simultaneously, they also think it isn't always necessary. They don't appear to understand that an apostrophe indicates singular or collective possession, not plurality.

Words that are split the wrong way! In Norwegian we build words about the same way as in German, not as in English, so we put words together. Probably due to the influence from English, many split words that really are supposed to be one word and write things as ananas ringer ( should be ananasringer, pineapple slices, not "the pineapple phones you") and arkitet tegnet hus instead of arkitettegnet hus. The first means "architect drew house", the other "house after a architects drawing". And of course there's rådyr jakt instead of rådyrjakt. The first means expensive hunting, the other one deer hunting. Might be the same, but not always :-)

A lot of linguists get enraged by the use of the split infinitive. Personally it doesn't bother me. My pet hate is cats!

Very simple. Subject-verb agreement errors are annoying. :D

When I'm writing, what usually bothers me is my usage of "could" and "would". I really can't figure out if I used them correctly in my sentences.
