Hi guys,
Weight loss is a big deal now a days and I've recently been having a go at getting fitter.
Now my problem is;
For 3 weeks I have been dieting, keeping track of all the calories I eat (and I mean all - I even include the calories in gum and tic tacs). I'm assuming my caloric needs are around 1900 calories a day (office job). My average deficit in calories is 400 a day. I'm using 400 calories more than I eat each day. On top of that I have been walking, lifting weights and hitting the gym 3-4 times a week.
By now I should be seeing some improvement I thought.
Today I measured myself. I've maintained! I may even be ever so slightly bigger around the waist (2-3mm)! After all that effort I haven't gotten any slimmer at all.
What am I doing wrong?

its best to consult your doctor. there's a lot of factors why a person isn't losing any weight even if she/he is living a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
i for example thought that i have a problem with my thyroid that's why i gain weight fast and lose so little. but then again when i had a checkup i didn't have a problem with my thyroid what they saw a problem was my cholesterol was very high. there's a lot of food i can't eat and i needed to walk it out for an hour everyday.
i can't jog because the last time i tried i almost fainted. my heart didn't have the capacity to endure jogging even for just 10 minutes. the doctor said i could have a heart attack and i wouldn't even know it.
try to consult first with your doctor so he/she can give you another way or instructions to lose weight

Thanks Freymind,
That makes sense. My aunt is having issues with her Thyroid but I though that was because of menopause.

Eat less will let your burning of energy slower ,eat less is not so good choice, everyday you exercise more toburn your calorie, but in the end your waist is bigger, maybe your body turn into muscle, it is good news. It willy lead you strong body.. If you really want to lose weight, slimmer, thenweat more but low calorie like fruit, vegetables andweat some nutritrion medicine like brand perfect. Rememberto exercise more.

You know what it is? It's muscle. U do an awful lot of body building and muscle weighs a lot more than fat. Be happy because you are putting muscle on rather than fat. If u increase ur muscle mass u will automatically increase your metabolism so it will work when u r sleeping. Therefore, carry on what u r doing and give it longer. Also decrease your cardio a little bit and focus more on building muscle. If u concentrate on building muscle then, that spare tire round your waist will soon go.

Well, there's this fact that I've read somewhere that in order to lose 1 pound of weight, you must burn 3500-3600 calories (if I'm not mistaken). So, it means that you should burn 3500 calories more in a week than what you take in, to be able to lose 1 pound of weight. I am not an expert or anything, but I think, fruits and vegetables, are really a good part one's diet. Maybe by hitting the gym and lifting weights, you have gained more muscle weight but at the same time, have toned your body. So, that won't be a bad thing at all. I guess, more patience and hard work my friend and you'll soon get there. I, for one, am still struggling with my weight, trying all the tricks that I could think of to lose some weight.

Not being an expert in the field of diet and nutritionism, I can not exactly give you a rational explanation for your case. However from what you described what you did in your thread, from my point of view, I find nothing wrong.
But I do not know if you have followed a specific program, perhaps suggested to you by a specialist, or you made a "cure" "do it yourself"?
I all ways, if the second hypothesis is the one you made??, I would never do on my own initiative actions, but I'd advise from an expert on the field.

You might be doing everything wrong because there are times that we tend to expect that we are doing the right thing for us but in reality we are not because what might work for one person might not be necessarily be effective to you so basically what I can recommend is that you might as well go to a dietecian/nutritionist so that you will be guided as to what kind of food you need to lessen and what food group you must have everyday plus do see a gym instructor if you really want to see improvements or results you should know what kind of program should work for you they can definitely create a program specific for your needs. I hope I have helped you in your query.
