The Titanic Centre..

As most of you will know The Titanic was a great ship, that sunk on its maiden voyage in 1912.
What a lot of you will not know, is that the ship itself was built in a small city called Belfast, in a small country called Northern Ireland. And this is where I was born and raised.. and my great great great grandfather, and great great grandfather, both worked on the ship.
To celebrate the anniversary of The Titanic, my small city has gone crazy! Hundreds and thousands of pounds have been spent to build The Titanic centre, which is a gorgeous abstract design, made to look like the ship.
You can read more about it here.. http://www.the-titanic.com/Titanic-Today/Attractions/Titanic-Belfast.aspx
It is a tourist and welcome centre, and not only has loads of interactive rooms to hear all about the shipyard history of Belfast, and of the making of The Titanic, but one of the rooms even feels like you are walking through the ship.
But the best bit? The bit to make this discussion worthwhile?
On the top floor of this welcome centre, is a ball-room type conference room.. with a complete replica of the staircase from The Titanic, and the film.
Now – what do you think of this?

I think that is awesome enough I shared the link with my daughter, who was a big fan of the movie. I also would love to visit this sometime, I love the stairs going down into the dining area, maybe because it was a big part of the movie..Thanks for the info Chicks..:)

To my shame,I am so uninformed that I don't know the Tatanic was made in your hometown until reading your discussion ,even I thought it was made in US ,maybe due to film Taitanic. It happens to be 100th anniversary of its maiden voyage this year,I bet Belfast will certainly become the focus of world attention.

i think a lot of people think it was built in the us.. probably just because the size of it, and the fact that the us is always seen as the biggest industrial place, especially at that time.
well thats the titanic thing, and the ema's were over here too.. so it's quite good that we're being recognized.

it just hit an iceburg that wasn't seen. thats all. but it was the fact they didn't have enough lifeboats on the ship due to the fact they just assumed they wouldn't need them. however, they did. lol.

Doh, c'mon, Belfast is a small city ?
I know this town - unfortunately only by name and reputation - since childhood.
It was one of the top 5 cities in UK and I think still is. Great ship building yard ... and other stuff too.
Be proud that you have ancestors from there.

I've known about the titanic from my father since i was just a little girl. My father was a wide reader and when he talked he seemed like he had been travelling all over the world. But the information you have just given me are all new. Didn't know it was built in your place.
Wish i could visit there someday and we could go dancing right there just to get the feeling of being on that famous ship that sank.

I didn't know, the ship was built in Ireland. You learn something new everyday. i think its great that Belfast is making their shipbuilding history be known to many people. Ireland's gonna have lots of tourist in the coming years.
This information is totally cool. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Chicks!
It must be cool to have family that actually built the Titanic. They must have been devastated when it went down.
The Titanic Centre has been big news over here too and it does look impressive. I've never been to Belfast, but this definitely tempts me across, especially if Kate Winslet is making a guest appearance. Is she?

and you're here in my heart
and my heart will go on and on......."[/i]
Been watching the 4 parter created by that 'For he's a jolly good Fellows', but I am not impressed. Man the lifeboats, women and children first...

lol well considering it sank in 1912, and i wasn't born until 1987.. i wouldn't really have a clue how they felt about it sinking lol.. but thanks for the sympathy haha!!
its a big attraction at the moment. i live about a 20minute walk away from it, and i have only seen it driving past due to the large crowds that have kept me away from going to see it.
kate winslet? she wouldn't be welcome i'd say.. i find her annoying.. extremely lol.
