Is retirement ever going to happen?

Hubby and I sat down and decided to make a retirement plan. I have been a stay at home wife for most of the 12 years we have been married. He puts money into his 401k but we want to retire earlier so we were going to start setting more money aside. Acording to the sites we looked at we need to set aside two thirds of the money he makes to retire in our 50's. Is this really how it is? Now I am looking for ways to bring in a little extra cash to help build up some savings or get rid of some bills while still taking care of our kids. Is it really possible to make money online? I get a bit from Mylot and believe me it helps but are there other ways too?

Ahhh retirement! I did once already, retiring after 24 years in the Air Force but with today's economy here I am still working! I'll get it right next time. myLot and other "paid-to" type programs are great for making you feel good about earning something for free as far as using for retirement, I don't think it's possible. I think the best approach is residual income programs that pay you monthly whether you work online or not. I mean what's the point of retiring if you can't take a vacation every now and then, right? Keep your eye open for programs that people can use and will be around for a long, long, ling time like web hosting and autoresponder services. Serious online income seekers will always need these services. With these programs you can work hard in the beginning to build your business and then look forward to some additional retirement income. And Avoid "fast money" programs. There's just no such thing on the internet! You're only waste precious time. Cheers, Stan

There is a fine line there between making money and wasting your time. That is one of the reasons I like Mylot so much. I get great info here that I would find for free but I can get payed to make friends and share tips and tricks. Its a nice set up they have. I know the pay isnt great but its still pay. I would rather make a dime a minute then have to leave my kids at the sitter and get payed minumum wage. Most of that would go to the sitter any way. I just keep reminding myself that every penny counts and it will all add up one day.

i so know what you mean. it is tough to save for retirement these days and most of us in our 50s have not saved very much (including my hubby and i), but we are working on it. do you write? there are several sites that you could write for online.

My Hubby writes a bit. I think I will look more into that and see if we can get him earning a few extra dollars too. That would be great. We have been trying to save our retirement money for about 10 years now and its crazy how slow its going. We talked to a financial advisor who was shocked I wasnt working. But if we can make it today on one income shouldnt we be able to make it then on one retirement?

Sure mylot earnings help. You can sell stuff online. You can try ebay. You can sell some of the stuffs in the house which you actually do not use anymore, and some people might find it useful and buy it to you. I am planning to sell the DVD player I won from a raffle, I can earn extra cash without even investing a single cent.

Ive considered sellig stuff online but I think we are going to try a yard sale first. That way we have immediate results and can deal with less shipping and issues like that. Not that they are big issues but sometimes basic is easier so we might as well. I was thinking of going through our DVDs to see if we had any we didnt watch any more. We could use the space in our house too.

That is a very great idea. Some may find your DVD an addition to their collection. I am not really familiar with selling stuffs online. But I think you can indicate there that you only sell to people near your place because you do not prefer dealing with the shipping fees. You can also do meet-ups to make it less hassle.

Making money sitting at home through net is not easy, it is a very slow process of earning until unless you find something too good. Even i am at home and keep looking for good sites. All the best to you.

Its not easy for sure but every little cent helps. Im at home with the computer anyway so I can make a cent or two and help get us a bit closer to an end goal. It would be great if I could learn to make a hundred a month but even a dollar adds up in the long run.

The scam sites scare me a bit but I guess as long as I just put my time and effort into it I cant lose to much. I was looking into some of the survey sites. They look somewhat promising. I know its only 1-3 dollars at a time but Ill take what I can get.
