I haven't started a topic on this discussion, about my university debt from a few years ago, for quite a while. Last time I checked in I think I owed around $2,000. Well I am REALLY REALLY happy to say that I am down to $340.00 overdue on my account. This is HUGE for me. I have been selling things on eBay, putting money away from my paychecks, working odd jobs here & there, consigning clothes, and I just paid them $780, bringing my total owed down to $340. This is amazing. For a while I thought I would never see the end of it. Now I actually have hope in getting out of debt with the university I went to... Long story short I went there for 1 year. Completed all my classes but dropped one and ended up with about $4,000 of debt. This was in the 2008-2009 school year. I have been sort of paying it off here and there but finally committed to making it happen. I can't go back to school (PERIOD) until it is totally paid off and my transcripts can be released so I can be transferred to a different school (since I sure as heck ain't going back there! Hate that school!). Anyway, I am pumped up about paying off that last $340. Although the prospect of going back to school is becoming more and more real for me now, which is somewhat scary (new things have always frightened me). I am looking forward to finishing my education & getting my degree & hopefully a better job though! And make something of myself! Of course I still have credit card debt, but that really doesn't HOLD me back as much as this debt does. But it is a start. So, YAY!!!!!! How are you doing on your debts?

Yeah that is rather good that it is down to that level, especially from the level that it is at. Just think, in no time at all, it should rather be paid right off at no time. It was a good feeling when I paid off my student debt but never again, never again will I ever do something like that. Consider that a lesson learned and reinforced right over time. I am happy to say that at this present moment in time, I am completely and utterly out of debt. That to me is just excellent to say the very least. I rather sparingly use a credit card. It is a feeling of freedom and a feeling that I hope that lasts for years, where I don't get trapped in that debt cycle. Let me just hope that will occur. Here's to a brighter financial future.

Debts can be a real downer seeing as they feel like a cloud that is always hanging over your head. I am currently making an effort to ensure that I am not in debt by paying up all the existing ones and not incurring new ones b living within my means. Credit cards are a major source of debt to many of us but can be controlled with self discipline.

This is great! it feels very freeing to get rid of a debt, doesn't it? We still have a bit of school debt to pay off but it's not too bad.

I know how hard it is to pay off debit. The whole thing seems very cut and dried, you don't spend more than you earn, right? But it just never seems to work out that way, something always comes along unexpected and costs money you didn't expect to spend. So congratulations to you. Blessings

Haha! If you look back to these old discussions about your university debt, you'd find that I've responded to most of them. So, naturally, I would be here again too! It's great that you're down to your last few hundred dollars. And it's great that you'd have something to show for, for all your hardwork of trying to pay it off. Hopefully soon there'd be a discussion of how it's zero, nada, zilch, love, nothing, etc! I'm still on my long journey of debt-relief myself!

Congrats!!! I graduated about four months ago and have $20,000 in loans to pay off but have another two months before I need to start paying them....BUT I still don't have a job...sooo this might be tricky...lol. I don't think I need to start paying them til I get a job though.. Keep it up and pay off that 340 asap! You can definitely do that no problem if you've come this far! And don't be afraid of continuing school -you are doing the BEST POSSIBLE THING you can do for yourself and your future and no amount of debt afterwards should make you regret that! Good luck!

Way to go, maezee. I am also in debt and I have finally decided to work hard to pay it off, too. I know how difficult it is to save all that money in order to pay. So kudos! You're doing a great job. All you need to do is keep at it and you'll be debt free in no time. Next, I truly hope you can get your degree. Nothing says accomplishment better than to finish school with your own hard work. As for your question, how I am? Well, I'm getting there. One step at a time. Hopefully, my $500 debt will be fully paid before June.

Oh please don't make me talk about my debt, DON'T MAKE ME!!! Let's talk about YOU, shall we :) I love this story about conquering debt, chipping away at it bit by bit. You really have been making quite an effort to get your debt down and that is admirable. I should be so diligent. I think that you will do great in school, you obviously know how to stick to tasks until they are complete. You chipped away at your debt until it is almost down to nothing, you've posted over TEN THOUSAND times here on myLot. I think you have the perseverance to be a kick-a__ student. Even though new things are challenging, I'd bet on on YOU.
