Can anyone tell me why many MyLotters Seem to be using funny looking pictures(at least for me). For example, snakes, cats, eagles, undefined pictures and man many more. For me it's more relaxing to see a picture of a person than an awful looking animal.

well, not everyone has their picture, and not everyone has animals..
it varies from person to person, but judging is never the answer ;)

You might change your opinion if some of us placed our real photos here
I find the colourful moving avatars portray my frame of mind and I have always used them.

I understand Misdianait but if this avatar looks more evil than a frame of mind it's scary.

I think that an avatar says a lot about the user behind it too, even if it is not their picture.
Just think what sort of person would deliberately post an evil scary avatar and want people ro remember them by that
Not the best of first impressions surely?

It's nice to post cute photos of animals.
I like cute kitten or puppies.
Sometimes I also use fairy pictures or angels.
Avatars sometimes reflects the person behind the image :)
Post your avatar now

In your opinion it's quite rude, in mine a flying pig,for example, is awful looking, and I feel like its quite rude of you to think that because we don't agree, you have the right to call me rude. Name calling is not a way to hold and argument.
Just my opinion.

I have not noticed this. Where have you been seeing these pictures? Are you going into the picture on the photo web? Im not sure where you would be seeing these. Okay, thank you!

That is so sad. You actually feel that aniamals look awful. I think they are beautiful. I think you are really missing alot alot in life. Very sad. I think that Mylotters should have the right to have any kind of avatar they want. As long as it isn't morally offensive. Sorry you feel the way you do.

You are missing something in life. But let it be. And, yes, in all due respect.

Well I'm sorry you didn't understand me, but if a pig with with wings looks beautiful to you then to me it doesn't and no I'm not missing anything in life. On that note let us agree to disagree with all due respect.

Jazel, I also would like to have a cute thing as my avatar, I'm still trying to get it right as I'm also fairly new here.

Mylot is not the most reliable of sites and a few days ago, all the pictures were absent. Although it looked rather odd at first, I actually liked it better that way!
Pictures don't do much for me.
Mine might be me or might not be, you just have to guess. Who said "Who cares!"

Im sorry, if I can permit me, but what does it mean the phrase
an awful looking animal? Perhaps it is because I love animals, so I think that kind of animals do not exist. Every living creature on earth must be respected.
Said this from how can you see me as I put my avatar picture of myself, however, I would conclude by saying that the individual freedom of being able to "put" favorite photos from each user, should not be compromised in my opinion.

I notice there is no picture of yourself. I use my dog's picture because I don't have any pictures of myself and even if I did, I wouldn't use it because I take awful pictures, I think and besides I like to keep myself a little private at least as far as what I look like. Some people show themselves and some don't , it's all a personal choice, I think.

The Internet is a dangerous place Nikhabele. Using real names and photos of yourself in a world where paedophiles, thieves, scam artists and murderers have free-reign is a dangerous thing.
We have no idea who we are talking to online. I would rather not use my real name or my real picture on a forum where there are so many people who I don't know.
I'm into reptiles, my picture tells you something about me, but does not give the game away regarding my identity, which I'd rather keep as it is.

I totally agree with you! I've been using the Internet for over 20 years and it is certainly not a safe place to post pictures or any personal details (a reason why Facebook is always in trouble, though even if it is a nice idea to be connected with friends and see what they up to. But the amount of identity theft is incredible high...)
It is up to the person to post a real picture or a picture which the persons identifies with-like you with reptiles. Plus it is so much more exciting to see various avatars, movements in them etc...(I hope I will be able to change my pic one day-as I haven't found a way to do that yet.)

Yeah I hear you all fellows and it's getting even scarier when you say this as I have never really thought of it that way, I don't know why or how I didnt but I just didn't think of such lengths of danger.
Thanks for the explanations.

People tend to use strange pictures because they are afraid that people will be able to recognize them or they are afraid that people won't take them seriously because of the way they look. If they don't use a picture of themselves, people are not going to be able to judge them and they can be whoever they want to be on here. I use my own picture because I am not afraid of what people think about me. If they don't respect my answers because of how I look then who cares. On the other hand, people might do it because they really like that animal or object.

Thank you sierranicole,,,,,for explaining and for using your picture. Like I've said already,it's relaxing for me to see a proper person than a flying pig. At first it looks like an eagle but on a second look you can see this a pig wit wings. OMG!!!

In my case I didn't think it was a good idea to put my photo on myLot. Just happen to run across the cat avatar and really liked it. Have been on myLot for almost 6 years and never changed this avatar. After a period of time it sort of becomes my image. In other words, members associate the cat to my name before reading or responding to my discussions.

So we should all change our avatars to something you like? What about how unique we all are? My photo doesn't say a lot about me, it's a rather dull and boring picture of a middle aged, (the wrong end too,) frumpy lady and I'm nothing like that as far as I'm concerned.
This avatar is who I have been every day for over 6 years...I make people smile (you're doing it now) and that's a good thing. Isn't it?

I disagree with this point. It does not relax me any more. In fact, there are some people online who thankfully have got that their face might not be the most visually appealing. Which is a good thing, I can assure you. They do say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but that tends to really be thrown out the window when you are on the Internet and everything gets judged harshly.
Plus, I think that some people like the separation of the real world and the Internet. They should seldom collide. If one of my enemies showed up for instance, and started harassing me because they happened to recognize my picture, it would bring down the entire tone of the website. Not to say I have any enemies, as far as I know. Some people just feel the need to post without any thought of what they are doing having any consequences in the real world. Plus my face scares small children and animals, so it is best that I don't post it online.

They use funny pictures is because ‘some’ pictures reflect the personality and character they have put on avatar. Some users do not want to reveal themselves because we are in the ‘online world’ and so, they use and choose alternative pictures to represent what personality and character they have on a picture. Some users have different reasons. For example, they choose the picture, which for them is pretty and good while other user who sees look it as ugly and awful looking animal.

It's cute to see such avatars like that. I also like seeing avatars which moves. I just don't know where to find them for I want to have something like that for myself.
Well, most of us don't use our own pictures as avatars in here. I guess it's much more comfortable having avatars which does not include our own identities or physical features. We all have rights in here and we have freedom to choose whatever avatar we like to post, right?
