I have always been puzzled by some people, especially my friends. When we were still students, they always tell me that they always listen to their iPod or mp3 player while studying. They say that they remember what they're studying better when they're listening to music than not at all. I tried it but it doesn't work for me. I lose my focus and my concentration. How about you?

When I was going to school I would always do my homework or study while watching tv. I had no problems whatsoever taking the tests or getting A's on my homework that was done with the tv going on in the background. As a matter of fact I do better with that background noise than if it is completely silent.
I think it just depends on the person. I know that my husband has to have complete silence when he is reading or studying something. I guess it's just the way a person is wired.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Hello.. Welcome to myLot family..
I don't have such habit. I like to hear music. But I don't like to hear it, when I am reading. It irritates me. I don't like it. And my concentration goes away. I listen songs when I am traveling or I have holiday.
Good discussion. Thanks for starting..

because it simply depends upon the person. :) this type works for me but unfortunately for some, they find it hard to study while listening to music. The reason i am able to study well with music is that i tend to remember it more when i hear the song in my mind then the words pop out too. I don't know why though. haha

I'm one of those who find it difficult to study while listening to music. I think this is because we have different and unique ways of associating things. Good for you though. Keep it up!

well i think we have our own study styles that is why what others see as beneficial to them, for others it's not. for me we're the same. i find it hard to focus when the music is up. however there are times that i do appreciate music while studying, especially when i get bored studying. music stimulates my mind during those times.

I don't like listening to music while studying, I get distracted. For other it does work though, maybe it depends on what kind of music they are listening to that they remember all the stuff they are reviewing.. .

I used to listen to music when I study. It makes me feel that I'm not alone. However, it also became a distraction especially when I like the song. It makes me sing instead of reading my notes. I noticed that It doesn't help on me also. You're right. It can lose your concentration. That is why when I study,I just don't listen to the music. I just listen to it when I feel bored.I think studying better depends on the person whether he/she studied with music or not.

I must admit that my relationship to music when it comes to studying, is quite weird.
For example, when I am solving math problems and doing math papers, I actually find that I can listen to music with no negative effect, as long as it's not too loud. So what that means is that I am able to subtly enjoy my music while studying math. That is definitely positive, I think. I think it gives me some sort of "flow". Often when I study math, I find myself completely deepened in it and find that time passes without me noticing. I think the music contributes to that sort of "flow".
On the other hand, music can be quite a distraction for me. To the extent that I procrastinate certain assignments! When I have to do non-math assignments, I simply find it hard to concentrate with music on. When I have to do these kind of assignments, I literally have to turn the music off. And that can be hard because of my very great habit for listening to music.
In short, music makes it hard for me to concentrate on studying, UNLESS it is math.
Have a nice day!

when i was also student i prefer listening to music or watching tv while reviewing. for me studying while listening to music is very effective. I cannot focus on studying and cannot concentrate, it's like i can hear every noise and i cannot concentrate.

It works well for some. For others it doesn't work well. I think that I was one of those people who it did work well. I am one of those people who cannot really get any work done, without the aid of music. There is just something about the lack of music that just throws me completely off the trail and causes me to really just lose my mind.
I think that to me silence is actually something that disrupts my concentration. I mean complete and utter silence, where it seems like something unsettling is about to happen. Then again, different people have their methods of studying. They most certainly are not wrong. Obviously while some people need certain conditions to concentrate, with others, they tend to fall short.

You are not suitable for music when doing homework, it is common ,some people are truely lose focus and concentration when listen to music as study, it is appeared in my classmates.
I always listen to music when I doing my work ,with music ,my mind work more fast, I can solve problem with music. Every kinds of music ,even television ,of sport ,drama .It will never disturb me.
Of course some time need quiet.
It dose not matter ,just choose your best method to study, if in the domintary ,we can corporate ,even ,if someone like to hear music she can put on headset, or maybe you will become more fit when listen to music after long time to go on with your friends.

When I study, I have to have something on whether it be the TV, my radio or Ipod. I cant stand total silence. When I was in school, it would be hard for me to take test or pay attention in class because the teacher would close the classroom door to stop the noises and I couldnt stand it. And I do believe that there has been some sort of study that proves that you remember more information when you listen to something while studying. Also, there was a study done about chewing gum or sucking on candy while doing work, because the motion helps stimulates the brain and keeps you focused. But, not everyone is the same, people work differently, and different stuff works better some that wouldnt for others.

Hello! Listening to music while studying is good for me sometimes I can listen to music while studying but there are other times that I divide my mind and then I don't longer understand what I'm studying. But still it is still the best to study with a quiet environment so that you can understand more what you are studying.
