What shall we discuss?

I do not start many discussions. I know I have talked about donating blood, and maybe I have talked about donating platelets. I have talked about some of the jobs I have held, and I have talked about some of the sites you click for free donations. I do not know what would be interesting to you, and I hate to post the same things all of the time. So, what shall we discuss? I will be back in a little while to comment to your responses. I am going with my husband for a dental appointment. Do you go to appointments with your spouse? Do you like to see the dentist? Because of the joint replacement when I had surgery, I am supposed to take antibiotics before visiting the dentist, every time. Hubby and I both donated whole blood yesterday, I have not done that for several months. I donate platelets once a month or so. I feel good about it. I have started reading for entertainment again. I have not done that in a long while. I read light mystery stories. Tell me about your library books. I suppose I have given you a few things to discuss, so come join me, and look for me to get back to you soon.

Bill (my boyfriend) and I go to each others appointments. It's a great way to hear the truth from the person. I know I've asked Bill many times if he's feeling okay and he's say "yes", then when we get to the doctor's office the story is totally different! I don't mind the dentist anymore. I used to hate going but for some reason it doesn't bother me. I too have to take antibiotics before having dental work done. I also had a joint replaced, the left knee was replaced in June of 2009. I'm not really happy with the way it's working. The physical therapist at my doctor's office hinted that I may have to have it redone...and I kind of squashed it when I was adamant about not doing it again. She also hinted at the fact that I might need the right one replaced too. I'm not too keen on going through that and having the thing not work right. Oh, for really light reading I found a wonderful writer, John J. Lamb. He wrote a series of teddy bear mysteries that are so great. There are five books in the series and it isn't all blood and guts. I wish the publisher would let him write more but the publisher doesn't think that they are commercial enough. The titles are The Mournful Teddy, The False-Hearted Teddy, The Crafty Teddy, The Clockwork Teddy, and The Treacherous Teddy. I really enjoyed them and recommend them to every mystery fan.

I am sorry they did not do a good job on your knee. I just had a toe joint redone. It is so much better than before, I am thrilled. I tended to walk funny and put my knee out and then my hip would go out, all because of the great toe. I do not mind the dentist, just the bills. I think I have heard of your John J. Lamb. I will have to look in our library. That would be up my alley in every way.

Gerty, which toe joint did you have done? How long did you have to stay off your feet? I have a bunion on my left big toe and my shoes hurt all the time now and i can't wear most of my shoes. Did you have to get all new shoes after your toe joint was replaced?

That's a creative way to get a discussion going. I like to read, but after a day of being on the computer, my eyes won't always take a book, so I sometimes listen to audio books while I do other things to relax. It's been awhile since I've been to the library, but I keep wanting to go. The problem is that when I get books, I want to sit and read instead of doing things that need doing!

GardenGerty, I work part time at Dollar Stretcher and then I write for various sites. It keeps me busy enough for being retired! I hardly ever start topics here, so you're 'way ahead of me. bagarad, when I get tired of working is when I want to sit and read and sometimes I give in to it, although there are other things that need doing. Books are a great way to escape!

I did that when I had a cold last week--I just read and read. What do you do online all day? Yes, I wanted to do something a little different for my discussion this week. I actually may come up with more this month, but usually I do not. This way a lot of different people can have something to relate to. I also find I have made some new friends as well.

When I come home with a stack from the library, I also find it hard to keep on task with my to do list. That's why I don't often check out books for light reading -- just information. But when I'm sick I will read without guilt to keep my mind off being sick -- if I'm well enough to read.

Oh, well if you don't mind a little romance and inspiration in your books, I should keep you in mind for when my story is published. (Yes I am being positive, even if it takes years or if I end up publishing it online, I am going to get this story out..lol) But there is something I'd like to discuss, because it was you who started the post on dying your hair with henna. Are you still doing that? If so, then I assume you are just doing your roots and what I was curious about is, do I have to cut down on the amount I make? In other words, does the solution of henna last long if I were to make the full amount? Or should I make like 1/2-1/4 of what I mix when I make the full amount?

I make about half as much. I also freeze anything left over. It works well. I do it about every month. I am not so flame red anymore and it looks better all the time. I was not sure if you continued as your husband disliked the smell. I love how it makes my hair feel. I will be looking for you to post about your story.

The orange fades the more often you use it, but I may get some indigo as well. I was just talking about that today. The sites I read said indigo over it would be black. So you put indigo in with the henna?

My husband and daughter said it was too orange every time I redid it, so I invested in some indigo and came up with the perfect shade the first time. as for the smell, whether because I added cinnamon or changed conditioners, it doesn't bother him anymore.. Thanks for that tip, I will freeze mine if I make too much..:D

I used to go and sit in the waiting room with him. He wanted me to go back when they were drawing blood as he hated the needles, but I guess now he's gotten used to it seeing as he has to do it quite often. I haven't gone to the doctor in a very long time. I've never donated blood or platelets either one. I like a good mystery story, and a good chair to sit in and relax under a blanket with nothing but quiet to enjoy it in. Sadly, that's not available here.

expensive is the going word for dental work in Southern California my best friend insists there is a dental clinic that takes payment but I have so much dental work that needs to be done it would probably cost in the thousands. also I hate having dental work done as the dentist always hurts me so much.now I know they have novacain so why be so stingy with it. I did have one dentist who made having dental work done painless but she raised her rates and does not take payments the two oriental dentists my insurance forced me to use hurt me incredibly and i refused to go back,.I can take some pain but when they strike a nerve and go on working in spite of the pain no I will not do that.mayhbe they like to hear one scream I have no idea or they are just bone cruel but not me not at all.

Well the person who suggested this dentist indicated they take payments, but they do not. . . and it is truly going to be in the thousands as you say. Not sure how we can do it, but good dental health helps you be healthy all over. I think it is a shame that medicare does not pay for dental. . . I guess they expect you to have all your teeth out and have dentures by the time you retire. I like my dentist, although a time or two I have had trouble with one or another of his hygienists. In fact, he got to where he would do the cleaning for a while since they hurt me. He is very good, but he will not see hubby as he does not do extractions and that is what hubby needs.

Well you know what my discussions are like. I talk about what goes on each day and things of interest that happen around me. I rarely get hugh responses, but sometimes I hit on something that people really want to talk about. I am susre you have had many intreesting things go on in your life. Remember we have people from many different countries here, I would be surprised if many of them know about blood donations, or joint replacements. So you could start there.

I do visit a number of your discussions. I do not care if I get huge responses, but I do enjoy meeting new people on my discussions. I think sometimes I get too tired and then I do not really put the thought into it that I should. I have learned a lot about blood donations over the last two or three years. I cannot believe that I never gave blood before the last few years.

May be we can call this a 'hotch potch' topic? Good idea. Talk about anything under the sun simply opens up vistas. I just checked my profile and I see I have put up 496 topics. How and when these topics were generated is difficult to say. It does not reflect my personality in any way but there they are! Being a multi faceted personality I can talk on any subject but thoroughly enjoy pets, nature, environment, art and so on. What I have noticed here is there are very few here who enjoy discussing these subjects, specially gardening. I don't think there will be more than 10 responses to topics on gardening. What say?

There used to be a group of us that liked to discuss gardening, but some have left. I always feel guilty because I do not take as good a care of my gardens as I should. I enjoy learning about new plants, though. As far as nature goes, it is an enjoyable topic, much better than some controversies we run across. Of course it can also be controversial, because, for instance, I enjoy visiting a well run zoo, but many purists detest them. I understand that they have not always been pleasant, but zoos are saving some species from extinction. I may have to go look for some of your gardening topics. I have enjoyed when you have talked about the events you plan for the orphans.

Don't go to hubby's appointments.. hate the dentist but don't need to see one anymore until I come up with the money for new teeth. Not much else for me to discuss. Just tired and really busy. My daughter's in softball and her dance recital is this weekend, and the oldest is doing indoor soccer.. so that's kept us busy along with all the usual stuff. Just finished another semester of school so I'm on break till May 2.

I have 5 classes left split up over the next 2 semesters. Each semester is split into 2 sessions and we normally take 2 classes per session. In May I'll have my last normal session, then I drop down to 1 class at a time until December.. then I graduate!! Yay! I could have chosen to take all 5 classes in one semester.. but this coming semester runs May to August. Last year was tough just doing 2 classes in those months while working and feeling bad that I wasn't getting the kids out enough. Granted at the time we lived in the trailer and I couldn't just let the kids go play in the yard like I can here. But I figured splitting it up and adding another semester is best than being overloaded during the warmer months when I'm going to want to be outside and not stuck in here doing more school work than usual!

I do not mind seeing the dentist, but I hate the cost. I know a lot of people are scared of needles. I do not look when they insert it. I can deal with injections, and checking my blood alright. It sounds like you get a bit of reading done because you have a specific place and time to do it. I imagine it makes the bus ride go better as well. We did have a nutty semi driver cut us off on the interstate. He just changed lanes a bit too early. Hubby is a good driver and so am I so we generally get places safely..

When my husband has an appointment we usually go to the clinic together. Sometimes I wait in the waiting room and sometimes he asks me to come inside. Last week my husband had an appointment, because there was something wrong with his ear. Fortunately it was nothing serious, and he is okay now. Last week he also had an appointment in another clinic. We got up really early and drove all the way to the clinic (on another island) We waited a long time and then a nurse called my husband's name and told us that my husband's appointment was cancelled, because the doctor was ill. He got another appointment and then we drove back. I wish that they had called us, we could have saved the time and the money that we spent on gas.

Some appointments you need a driver for, because treatment or medicine may make you dizzy. It is a shame that they did not let you know about the doctor not being available. The appointment we went to today was because someone else cancelled. When we called to accept the cancellation the staff was already gone so we were hoping they got our message that we would accept it.

Hello Gardengerty, Right I am reading and learning about watercolor, color pencils and how to paint and draw. At my night work when it get hetic this calms me down. I look at computer all day long sometimes over 12 hours and last thing I want to be on is a computer. I bought color pencils and INktense Derkwin color pencils that when you wet the color it becomes a watercolor picture and when it dries it permanent which means you can color over it or add pen and ink to make things stand out and will not harm the watercolor portion of the picture. Other topics could be song you listen too. What last DVd did you buy or watch! What is classic movie? Gardening or people in your neighborhood! Any good tips on shopping like Target, Walmart! What clothes do you like wear. Sports with baseball playing. I am routing for the New Yorks Mets to get into the World series this year. Then there is Nascar we can talk about. Then other sports Tennis, volleyball, swimming etc... I hope this help! Have a great day! Sincerely Unique16

I hope that there are a lot of things people can relate to right now in this discussion and I may consider some of your other topics for later in this week. I find that if I need to catch up on a discussion and I go respond to comments then I earn well here.

It is alright not to start a lot of discussions. We still can interact on many levels in other people's discussions. I forget that not every country has the emphasis of dental care that we do. The dentists would like you to come in every six months, even if you do not have pain or a problem. Many people cannot afford this or are afraid of dentists. I know I see you participate in lots of discussions and that is wonderful.

Hi Gerty! I love reading for enjoyment. I have an eReader that I buy books in and read. I don't buy books on the shelf much because I don't see so well. I have tried to give blood but it clots too fast. I take aspirin now and I don't think they allow people to give if they take aspirin. I have to take it for circulation and stroke prevention. You have lots of good topics to talk about. I'm a full time freelance writer for Knoji which used to be Factoidz. I've written about 56 articles this month and have earned $116. It's not much but it does help out at the first of the month. I'm also active in microworkers. I love working at home to supplement my retirement pension. Have a good day.

I had quit doing some reading for awhile I think because of my eyes. I am really enjoying it now. They tell me my blood clots quickly but it also flows quickly. I can give three units of platelets in about 68 minutes. You are correct, taking aspirin on a regular basis slows the clotting and damages the platelets. I really need to get settled on writing somewhere. I signed up for Factoidz ages ago and never tried anything there. I enjoy writing articles and may investigate it. $116 would pay one of my bills so it is much, in my opinion. I was wanting to be a little fresher than I had been in my discussions and so I gave all of these choices. How is your Avon online doing?

Hi GardenGerty I usually go to appointments alone. Now I have to go to dentist quite often, almost every week, because I try to get two root canal treatments done. My teeth are not healing very well, so I'm just hoping that the treatments can be finished and I can still keep these teeth for a while. I got temporary fillings and have to go back to dentist on Friday. I would like to donate blood, but I'm not allowed yet. I was saved with someone's blood, so I know how important it is, and I would like to help others this way, too. I haven't been to the library for a long time, although when I lived closer to bigger libaries I spent a lot of time there. Now I'm reading about mythologies in a book that I got from my aunt.

Sometimes I start a discussion based off of what I see in the room. For example, the other day I noticed that our plant was dying, and so I wrote a discussion for suggestions in helping to revive this type of plant. This doesn't get as many replies as others, but it will help you get an idea of where to start if you want to get away from the doctor, medical, blood sort of type questions.

My hubbie is a big boy and goes to the dentist by himself. If he had to have anestisia (spelling?), I'd have to go with him. The dentist is not my favorite Dr to see, but he's not the worst to see either. He usually has funny post cards to remind you like:Don't be a chicken, chickens have no teeth. Your appt. is on_________________. The books in my home library are about: Recycled crafts Paranormal Romances (mostly women with interesting powers who help their men friends get out of jams) Wild food books including identification and one by Linda Runyon who lived the wild food lifestyle

I don't donate blood, I loathe going to the dentist and I put it off for as long as I can (which I know to be a bad habit) before fixing an appointment. I( then go alone as I don't have a hubby and don't need one if I have to exchange that favour with doing a lot of washing and ironing for him I don't read recently and tyhat is another bad habit too. Possibly in the next few months I will have some extra time when I will be travelling on public transport and I already have a couple of books that will come in handy then. Can I ask you a question because the part about donating thingsbrought it to mind. What happens with old, unwanted spectacles in your part of the woods? Is it possible to donate them too?

As for reading, let me know when you decide to get out of that habit and I'll let you know when my book is available.. As for donating old spectacles, my eye doctor takes donations, so I believe that Gerty's would too..

Great idea! I first learnt of taking back old spectacles to the optician in UK. In Italy there is no charity that takes them in and I find that to be very sad as there is always some-one somewhere in the world who would be grateful for them I'm sure.

There are many topics which can be discussed on mylot. If you feel you have discussed about everything, try to think a little a make a unique discussion which no one must have started before. I mostly start discussions that way. I sometimes talk of real life experiences that happen on my way to work or college. For the first time i traveled by bus to my native place. The journey was pleasant. So if i had to start a discussion, i would start it on a long bus journey. The hotels we visited on the way, the sightseeing of the bus and whether the sitting or sleeping arrangement was comfortable in the bux.

I don't like the dentist. I had a bad experience with one years ago. I never was taught to take care of my teeth and now I have about twelve of them left. I would like to get dentures but can't afford to. I used to read true crime books. Just don't seem to have much time with the tv on for company most of the time. My hubby also accompany me to doctor's visits as i am scared of it sometimes..and i need support.. i really do not have library books as our library here sucks sometimes i too do not know what to share here but then i get inspirations from what is happening in my life..

Sometimes my life seems kind of boring and monotonous, that is why I think people may not be interested in it. Of course, I am sure others feel that way about theirs as well. I used to be afraid of doctors, and I still do not see doctors often. My husband usually goes with me. With both of us listening and thinking about what is said we usually make good decisions.

I have to go with my husband or else he won't go to the dentist at all He is a little scared of dentists so I have to be available just to have things done. I haven't been reading for pleasure for a while now. I am working and I have a little one so I do not have a lot of free time. But I like reading and I promise to get back to that hobby the moment I can. Hope to see you here again!

I went through a phase of not doing much of anything fun. Jobs do that to me. Having a little one is a good reason to take naps and have a quiet reading time. It is just hard to fit it in. Hubby has been too reluctant to go to the dentist and he now needs a ton of work done.
