Im not very sure if its really called flying ants, but it looks like ants with wings that circles around the flourescent. Do you have those at home? Maybe, its just common here in our country. They are so annoying, because they just fall and drop on your shoulders or whatever is beneath them.
Lately, they've been paying us a visit every night, and they like the light overhead our dining table. Imagine if they fall on the food. But I have a solution to get rid of these insects.
Long time ago, I saw in one of the houses in the neighborhood, they also have these ants around their lights. I noticed they taped a small plastic on the flourescent, and the ants just sort of jumped in to it. The plastic used is the one from the cigarette packaging. I was amazed that it worked. I haven't really researched why and how, but as long as it helps get rid of those insects, I'm good with that.
So, I pasted a couple plastic packs on our lights and had fun watching them fall in the trap.

Yeah, they come by occasionally, and go away in time. I just really don't like it when they fall on me or near me. They're wings also fall off easily, and its hard to see because its transparent.

one trick my neighbors taught me is to put a basin of water underneath the light source. these insects are actually attracted to light and the water from the basin reflects the light from above the light source then they'll the insects will fly straight into the basin! :) also another trick is to get an old tray or pan then lightly coat it with oil then swipe it around the area where they gather, a good past time if you have kids at home to keep them entertained or a good exercise for you too hehe :))

Those are good ones. I could try that when its season again. And, the pan with oil trick is a fun idea. I bet my little girl will volunteer to do that.

Yes, that's exactly what I've seen people do in these parts as well. I think the general idea is that like a mouse trap. They can get in but they will have problems going out. Maybe their eyes can't see the opening or perhaps there is limited air supply or space inside that's why they can't flap their wings (as we all know flying is done by gliding or manipulating air, therefore, no air, no flight). hehehe.. That's just my thoughts though.
Have a great MyLot experience ahead!
