Today was a tough day of job in my life, some of my seniors have passed some discriminating arguments based on my race, i was so angry but could not do anything because i am trapped in a situation where my this job is very important for me, but their attitude have hurted me very badly. This was a worst experience of my life. I cant explain my feelings here. Have you ever faced or beard discrimination, what was your reaction, was you silent and calm due to some compromises like me or you have answered them properly? what was your feelings because i still have some unbearable pain in my heart.

Yes, I believe I've been faced with it before, although it was some years ago. It happened shortly after 9/11.... I had gone with one of my kids to return a movie one evening. As we were going back to the car I heard someone yell out "Come back where you came from!" No one else was in the parking lot, so I can only assume it was directed towards me. I wanted to retort back, but held my tongue. Not only did their comment make me angry (I'm an American Citizen, after all), but it made me nervous as well, especially as I had one of my kids with me. So I said nothing. Instead I just got in my car and got the heck out of there.

@ dubbc3: I agree, it is a shame. No one should have to go through this, especially in this day and age. Unfortunately I don't think it'll ever end...not unless everyone was mixed with every singe race out there. But even then it may not guarantee it. @ rockydam83: I moved on a long time ago. I was just sharing the experience that I had on here. That's all.

It's a shame people are still saying things like, "go back where you came from." I'm just about used to discrimination and racism. I was born right here in America. It doesn't matter though. It never matters. I'm sorry you even remember that day.

I'm sure that the majority of individuals have faced some type of discrimination based on race at one time or another. That is just the a lot of people are in the world we live in today. Yes we often do feel hurt about how others say things about race. It can really hurt our feelings. It in some ways it can be good just to keep quit. Other times it may be beneficial to speak up. Depending on the circumstances and whether or not it will make a difference if we speak our mind. There will be a time when people don't act this way. Though until then we often have to be the bigger person and just let it go. That is not always easy. But it is important that we don't lose sleep over it. As that will only harm us.

Dominique25 ..You have some good advice and I always think if possible, calmly speaking up without being nasty and angry is useful and helpful.

Yeah we don't want others disrespecting us and yet we can be tactful when talking with them about what they said. It doesn't even have to be a long drawn out conversation either. We could just say something simple, like we would appreciate it if they didn't talk that way around us.

Apart from the discrimination I experienced looking for a job in my early days because I have one leg the only other experience I had was one day in Brixton London I went into an electrical shop for some parts to fix something for an old lady my wife was visiting. All the staff were coloured probably of West Indian descent and I was totally ignored nobody would look at me never mind speak and I just had to walk out. It as a bit ironic as at the time I was helping to run a Law Centre and we spent quite a bit of time fighting race discrimination cases

I've been picked at for my race. People think its not possible because I'm white and for the longest time its been my own race who caused a lot of problems, but I can tell you very differently. There is racism among all and not just my own. There isn't much I can do, except forgive or resent the people who act that way toward me. I held a lot of anger for those people for a very long time and yes, some of it still lingers there. As for gender discrimination, my late grandfather was apparently under the impression that girls can't swim. He took us to the water park, but me neither me or my sister were able to enjoy ourselves because he made us stay on these big tire things and we couldn't leave the shallow side of the water. They boys however got to have all kinds of fun.

I understand how you feel, I get that a lot from mechanics who try to take advantage of me because I am female. I grew up around cars and my stepbrother is a performance car mechanic, my dad owned a servo and my brother used to race cars but because I am female, mechanics seem to think I don't know what I am talking about when I ask them to fix something on my car and it is not just them but males in general, like a female can't know about cars. You just have to do what you feel is right and I hope it works out for you. You are not alone in being discrimated against.

Hi, Rockydam, I'm sorry about what you have endured. Discrimination is one of the worst things that could happen to you. I remember such a hurting moment in my life when I was ten years old. I was playing in the street with my classmates, we had a quarrel - girls against boys as usual. Suddenly the boys began to shout: "You are a Jew!" I was stunned. I'm a child of a mixed family - my father is Jewish and my mother is Bulgarian. I was raised as a normal kid, with my Jewish grandparents and my Bulgarian grandmother. For the first time I learned that I was different from he others. I'm sure that these kids didn't realize what they said, maybe somebody has heard these words from his parents. But this episode prompted me to decide who I was. Later I got the strength to stay calm and feel myself like a normal person. You should do the same. I understand your pain but you should know that you excel those who have insulted you.

I think that most people have been subject to discrimination at some point, whether they truly realise that this has been the case or not. I know that, as a woman, it is hard for me to get to the place that I want to be in the working world without having to prove that I am better than men. I think that far too many people underestimate women for some reason, and as a result of that choose to employ men when women could do just as good a job if not even better. It is a sad part of our world, but I don't think that there is really anything that can be done about discrimination.

Yes, sometimes and I am pretty sad that they are still people who think that way. They should know that we are the same regardless the race or gender. They should not look down other people and assumed that they are better. I don't like it and feel kind of hatred. Sometimes I can bear with it but if it go beyond my patience I will not feel hesitate to tell it to them. I am sure they don't like others to do the same to them.

rockydam83 ..I am sorry for your experience. The only and best way I find to handle injustice is to try to rise above it and not stoop to their level. If one can learn to practice patience and be better than their critics, one has indeed accomplished something priceless. Hang in there..

I've faced discrimination from sexist pigs of my own race. Its sad when people that are suppose to be family based on heritage are just as ignorant as a foreigner to you. I've heard men talk about preffering to be with a certain race based on how they perform orally. It really explains someones mind set when they are willing to let go of family tradition for two minutes of pleasure. I think people should start talking about race even if it is uncomfortable. It would make a better world, if people were honest. The problem arises when people lose tact and don't care how others feel. Its a line line....

I think your seniors were having an attitude problem but you need to let that pain and fear go out. You still have your choice to answer them properly only after working hours. Answer them back in a smart way, you are a professional worker and act like a professional no matter what is your status that be. If they can't understand you, leave when every time they keep bullying you when you feel hurt and don't listen nonsense words it might push you in a situation where it might affect your job for the rest of your life.

Yes, and I believe this is true for most of the Asian race. I worked for a call center before, and I have been hung up on by Western customers when they found out I'm not white. And, that wasn't even about how I sounded or my English or my knowledge of the job. It's just pure discrimination but afte a few encounters, it didn't bother me anymore.

I am a black female. I face discrimination almost everyday. I'm almost used to it. It's expected. Which is sad, but true. Black and female. I just keep living! People stare at me at work, say rude things, try to make me feel bad. My race has gone through discrimination for hundreds of years. But, I'm still smiling!

Your story has developed more patience and harmony in me. You look beautiful here, I dont understand why peoples comments on such things which are not in any humans's control. If they born white then what is their share in it, GOD Almighty has created them white and so GOD Almighty created us the black and the other races, why dont they understand that they are discriminating towards GOD in this way.

hi ro ckyhdam not race but age and gender. I was forcibly retired for on other reason then I was nearly 8 0 . I asked my boss if I was a bad worker and she told me I was the best page she had ever had but she had to let me go., she lied ab out the reasons. I learned afterwards the biatch in second place did not want an 'elderly lady working in the library so she told my boss fire her or I quit. well they both got fired for firing me but I could never come back to the library any way as I had had a bad fall, necessitating a shoulder joint replacement. and thus I lost most of the use of my left arm.Although I had a lot of physical therapy I still did not get the use of my left arm back like it was before.I could no longer shelve books and media.age discrimination is still considered discrimination as I had been an excellent worker. they wanted me to come back but I was not able to after that fall.

I also face discrimination sometimes because of my gender. I work in a men's world. I am an engineer and most of my work are done by guys. Sometimes, they take care of me too much that I sometimes think that they treat me as a weakling. I know as a woman,I have limitations physically but I can compensate that for my other capabilities.
