How is this MY FAULT?!?!?

Hello, my myLot friends. Two days ago I was online to place some pay-as-you-go international time in my phone. I had the required amount, and went to click on the tab to buy, when I got this message, "International Calling Coming Soon".
I was confused to say the least. Just two days prier, I placed $20 on my phone and was able to talk to my girl friend in the Philippines. Seeing that I could not go any further, I decided to call my provider to see what the problem was. The lady told me that it was no longer an option, and I would have to buy the $60 unlimited international calling card.
She took me through the process, and discovered an error. The program told me that my girl friends number was not valid. I told the lady and she said that it was normal, and to go ahead and purchase the $60 plan. I asked her if she was sure, because it came up as invalid, and she assured me that I would be able to call. I went ahead and made the purchase, believing the lady. After all, she works for the phone company I use.
The next day, I tried to call, and the message was, "The number you have entered is invalid". Confused, I tried it again, just to make sure I dialed the correct number. It was, but I received the same message. Upset now, I called the company and told them the problem. They told me that I was not able to call the Philippines using this plan.
I was very upset, and asked them to refund my money, or turn it over to pay-as-you-go. They told me that "unfortunately" they could not, and it would take 30 days to receive a refund.
I was irate at this point and yelling, telling them that it took me 25 seconds to send them the money, but I have to wait 30 days!!! The woman obviously lied to me, so I demand some form of compensation. I was not about to pay another dime for time. Then they accused me of being careless, and said that I should have checked the number before the purchase. That was where I lost my temper and told the lady that "the individual who lied to me about the time should take responsibility and fix this!!!" Yet, they call me irresponsible? Wow!!!
I hope you all never have to worry about this with Straight Talk. Have any of you had this experience where the company made a mistake and told you it was "unfortunate"? Or worse, you believed someone who worked for the company, and later was told that you may be the one to blame? Thank you all for all of your comments. BTW, I now HATE the word "UNFORTUNATE"...

Hey Devilova... I think you are right. They just get these new people and train them for a few days, then let um go!!! I did believe her, because it sounded like she knew what she was talking about. Well, the joke was on me.
Thanks for your response, and have a great day.

wow, that's kind a sh%! , if I'm in your situation, I would've let this story spread and say the name of the company, my sister taught me that whenever you talked to an employee through the phone, you have to ask for his/her name, in that way you can make sure who to point out the mistakes. I hope you can do something more other than asking for a refund, because I don't think they'll give you a refund.

Are you ever correct, yel812. I did, but then opted into just getting my unlimited extended for two months, until June. I got tired of talking to them after 5 hours of lies and them telling me, that there was nothing they could do.
I did have to buy more time for the pay as you go, but when the two months is over, I am going to a more reliable company.
Hey, thanks for responding to my discussion, and welcome to myLot...I hope that you have a great time here. Have a great day...

It's not your fault at all and I am seeing that these companies are all hiring idiots to work for them. It's amazing. I went through a similar deal with AT&T when we bought some rural property. They insisted that DSL was available. Sent me a DVD to set up. Wouldn't work. I called and inquired to make sure that DSL was available in my area. I was once again told yes, no problem. I told them that I received the DVD but it doesn't work/connect. Oh then you must have a bad DVD. Let me ship out another one to you. Next DVD finally arrives and it also does nothing. I call the company back and then I'm told. I'm sorry DSL is not available in your area. Thanks a lot AT&T--you just wasted a month of my time.
I would find another company to buy air time from after your episode. Good luck!!

Hello, kareng. I know, right? I tell you what, I was just bewildered by what the woman told me about it being my fault. I told her over and over again the last woman lied to me. Its like they dont understand the words that are coming out of your mouth when you talk!!!
Well, then she told me I had to buy MORE time for the pay as you go. I just accepted her offer because I was on the phone with them for 5 hours trying to fix the problem. She extended my unlimited time to June, so I will change companies then.
Thanks for your response... Have a great day.

Wow that's irritating and they cost you too much. I encounter once with one subscriber here in my country and that's true they make refunds sometimes but it takes too long to process because they told me they have to investigate first and if the result is on their fault they will send back my money. You can ask to investigate what happened to your purchased most of the conversation are on record and they will decide if the lady on phone you talked with was wrong.

Thanks Lyn. Well, they did tell me later that all recordings could be reviewed. I just spent 5 hours on the phone with them, and was really tired so I just told them to extend my time. They did, until June. then I will be getting a new provider. I was very upset at the fact that it took me 20 seconds to send them the money, but it was going to take 30 days to get it back.
I told them that if I went to a store to get a product, got home and found that it was the wrong product because one of their employees lied to me I would bring it back. Then, they would give me an instant refund. They would never tell me to wait 30 days for it... Just dumb... Thanks for responding, and have a great day.

Hello, bjc... Sorry about not getting to this sooner. She gave you the answer, and I thank lyn for it... Anyway, I decided not to go for the return but instead opted to have my unlimited extended until June. Then I will change companies.
But what rally got me was them telling me I was at fault for this, when clearly the woman who helped me with it was the one who needed to take responsibility. I had to buy more time for the pay as u go, because I decided that 5 hours on the phone was enough. Thanks for your response... Have a great day
