When the audience sings along in a concert

I don't know if I got this topic in the right interest criteria but here goes. So I watch this video on YouTube with The Script singing "Breakeven" during their concert in Manila. The audience sang along with the band and you can here them singing in the video. There were some comments that said they wished the audience didn't sing along so they could hear the band singing. I thought, well, the video wasn't all about the band. It was also about the experience of being in the concert. I wonder, though, do bands or singers like it when the crowd sings along with them loudly? I know that in a concert, you can't help but sing along with the performers. But does anybody out there know whether performers appreciate this sort of thing?

I think the performers enjoy it when the crowd are singing along with them because it's a sign that the audiences enjoy their performance and are with them(performers). I also believe that whenever they point the mic to the audiences, it's a technique just so they could rest their voice box a bit. ^^
However, I might also complain about audiences who TRIES to sing along with the artists, and fail at doing so. My bro told me once that a performer pointed the mic to this quite well-known person in the crowd and then 'well-known person' continued on with the song but sang the line which was supposed to be sang later in the end part of the song. He ruined the song/performance...

That's actually right. I know someone who is a drummer in a show band. And he says that if the singer wants to let the audience or someone in the audience sing instead, it helps the singer to rest his voice a bit.
OMG! That was probably embarrassing! I understand if the musicians won't appreciate it if one audience member sang and messed it up. I guess that's why it's better if the whole audience would just sing along. You won't hear the ones who don't know the words. Haha!

I was really pissed with the guy actually. I really love the band and their music and just have to sing the wrong line. Yep and it's better not to sing with the mic pointed to you when you don't know the right lyrics of the song.

I am not a performer myself, but if I were the performer, I would be very happy and overwhelmed when the crowd sings along with me. That just goes to show that the people knows the song and that I am a famous performer. I will be happy because they appreciate my songs for them to know it be heart.

I agree. When the people sings along, obviously it shows that they are very familiar with your songs. I think every performer would want to feel that people actually memorized their songs. I shows them that they have connected with their intended audience. Thanks for your response!

No...... We hate it!
Wait till you are invited to sing along... If not..Shut Up! And Stop yelling out during the quiet parts. We are concentrating on the mood and creating themusic.... Stop yelling out for no reason than to try to get on the recording!
I wish more entertainers/musicians would stop their show and tell the people to Shut Up. It is distracting on stage... And certainly to the folks who paid their money to hear the group or performer.
