What do you write when you write for yourself?

Most people have to write sometimes for work, or school, or to make money or to stay in touch with people.
But then there are those of us who write just because we want to, and need to, and because it's fun. We might want to be published eventually, but the primary purpose for writing is just that we're writers. If you are one of these people, what do you write for you? Novels, short stories, poetry, essays, memoirs? What piece are you the most proud of?

I love to write but mostly it is not something one can be proud of since I am not a professional writer. Plus I am too shy to show anybody my work . I have tried writing short stories before and a little poems, not really sure where I placed them now because that was years ago. I stopped writing those kind of stuff because those were really just for fun kinda thing. I am not into it now, anyway, mylot is keeping me busy so I'd rather be here than write something i know will never be of use to me someday. Not really into pursuing it so all's cool

I don't know what's with me, but I really don't have the guts to show my work. It's not really that good and needs a lot of polishing. Maybe if I can learn more about writing, I will be proud to show it to anybody. I even am to shy to read something I write for my bf to him because he might laugh at me so I just give him what I have written through a piece of paper or a letter. That's even sweeter.

Hi Shannon,
If I were to write something to myself.. I would write poetry and novel! :) I started by writing novels (never published.. I just wrote it on notebooks) and then it grows to writing poetry.. :)
I am proud of all my writings! :P So confident, ha? Lol... But I really cannot choose. But, if I have to choose, I am proud of my poetry. Because I never thought that I could write poetry before...

When I am writing for myself and I know that nobody else is going to see it, I will always write song lyrics. I can play the guitar and the piano, and this means that I am able to put music to my lyrics as well which is just a wonderful thing to be able to do. I can sing about anything that is on my mind at the time without having to worry about anyone else listening to it. I love writing songs, because they are just as beautiful as poems, with the added bonus that you can put music to them which just adds an entirely different dynamic to the whole thing.

You know, back then I would love to write stories for myself - that the actual character was me, my friends and my crush (now my husband). I would spend my afternoon, writing on how will he rescue me and kiss me. And on how will we fight lol... Of course that was a long time ago. Now, I would write medical articles to earn and write my poems for my own pleasure :)

That's a nice discussion! Well, I haven't written much for myself really, but if I could, I would like to write a memoir. I have always held the view that if someone had a God's eye view of my life, he/she would be making billions in no time! Some may see my life as being very uneventful, and for the most part - boring, but only I know that it would make a very good story.
I like the world to know who I really am, (while having a confidential identity) why I am what I am, and things like that.
Maybe a touch of fiction added here and there, and it would make a Sunday bestseller for dark fiction fans!

I have written ten novels, two of which were short story collections. My best seller is Confessions of a Gambler which also became a film. I wrote the script and directed it as well. It won the Sunday Times Literary Prize. I am now busy with my eleventh novel, but am so addicted to the online writing sites that I have only written fifteen pages of the novel so far. I keep saying tomorrow, tomorrow, but then I write three articles instead. Writing was my coping mechanism since childhood. I'm addicted to writing I think because it calms me and I'm happy. I've always been a loner so writing suits my personality and serves me well.

Well, I would Love to be a published author someday, as this has always been my Goal and Dream. To have my name out there besides here online would be a Huge plus and hopefully an inspiration for others. I would Love to write about my life experiences and hope I could help out someone, as well as finish my Christian Romance I have started. But overall most times when I write I find myself writing about whatever is my inspiration or going on at that time. Writing for me is a way to relief some stress and affirm for me everything is going to be OK.

I can say, I am not a writer but then, if I would write to myself, it can be a sermon...
I mean, there are things I like to do but then sometimes there are things I put first before myself. That makes my goals or things wanted to do put on a postponed mode or worst, canceled and never even looking back to make it work out...
too bad, isn't it?

I would like to write poems myself. I know most of the give more importance to the poems becuase they are little small and easy to sing. If a poem is created by a writer we need to find a absolute tune to it then only it becomes a good one.
For the creation of a poem at first we need to find good lyrics and secondly find a tune for it. Really there are two jobs for a poem writer, where as for a poem writer or a story writer he needs to find a good long story. H doesn't need to find a tune for it. This concludes that writing a goo poem is little difficult but still I believe current efforts can make any difficult things to put in the reality.

I enjoy writing very much and have written for Triond.com. I haven't written for them in a long time, but recently missed it so I'm going to start writing for them again. I just usually pick a topic and start writing but in reading my material (before I post) if it doesn't sound good, I just toss it and start again. But when I do write something interesting, there's a deep sense of satisfaction.
Sometimes, something that someone else says, or posts, will spark my imagination. For instance, someone once wrote that they believe in life on other planets, and that there were space aliens among us, and that inspired me to write this:

Thanks

I love to write for myself, but most of my writing is poetry. I usually only write when I am in an emotional state. It helps me to express my thoughts without having it cricized. I am older now and my kids are growing up, I think I may write a memoir to let my children know who I really am. I am no a great writer so who knows.
