Do you always ask a salary higher than what you received in your x company?

For me I think it should be since as we gain more experiences we become more skilled and knowledgeable on our job field. But the competitions are normally high. Do you accept a job offer which is lower than your previous company? Do you always get this comment "you're asking too high"? And what do you do if you really want the job but the offer is not really within the range which you are not willing to accept?

Hi Job! I would most likely ask for a higher salary in the company that i am applying for. If however i know that the company is highly secured and tough, i dont mind staying in the same wage as long as they can keep me. Furthermore, these are the companies that can guarantee my way to the ladder. Hence, i wont really mind.

this is a good point. if the company is good and there is job security it is ok to work for lesser salary. good day

yes, if it is a secured company and there are more benefits involve, why not? but if it's totally low I guess it's better to find another company.

I'll refuse that offer unless it comes from a famous company which can make my professional background more strong. You should consider the decision carefully, If you miss the best opporunity to negotiation, It's hard to demand a raise after boarding. Of course it also depend on how you value yourslef.

Famous companies are known as high paying unless you have higher asking than what they considered as above from the rest salary. But yeah you're right it could make our professional background more stronger than before so we also need to consider it when making a decision if we like to accept it or not.

How ironic. You made me think of my 2 year work in S***L and I was a supervisor before in that company for technical support department of US service provider and their cheap cellphones. I only earned Php14,000 monthly for years and I didn't complain. When I have to leave due to management wars; I got into this different company with a travel account and it raised Php5000 from what I originally earned for years. I'm in a better place now turning a year in this well-paid company.

Hi resy! Thanks for sharing your views here.I really think that we should ask for it during the interview process so we can be happy for the job when we get hired. Sometimes, we only need the courage to do it. It's like take it or leave it. Sometimes, employers hired those applicants with highest salary demand than those with lower asks. Why? our salary demands reflect what we can do to the company. Of course, we can only do that to multinational companies which can afford to pay higher compensations.

Hello jobfindonline, I think when you are applying for a job, and had tremendous amount of experience, can ask for a high salary. Or when you are working and apply for a managerial promotional program, that is when you ask for a higher amount. there was one time we were interviewed for a job, but i didn't get accept but the others didn't because of the doubtful salary given.

I agree when we think that our experiences deserve a higher salary we shouldn't be afraid to ask for it. It will also become a red flag to the interviewer if we are applying for a managerial position and we only ask a salary that is not within the range only for the intention of getting the job. But in reality, the more we beg for a job the less likely it will be given to us. It is better to pride ourselves with high salary. if they are really interested they will give our demands.

I always ask for a salery of a few rollers more an hour then what I expect to get this way the worse they can say is sorry I can't pay u that much and go a little lower but sometimes I actually get what I'm asking for which is great because you don't know until u ask and many employers will go with what u say if it's lower then what they where thinking so alway aim higher
15 May 12
yes you are right. It's better to be honest with our demands right from the start.

I not only consider the present salary range that the new company accepted to give. i also seriously consider the annual increment, future benefits, job security and employees freedom. If all these aspects are good i will surely accept the job and won't bother about the salary offered at present.
15 May 12
yup if we sum it all it will also add up to the basic salary which they offer but there are just some people who prefer to have a high basic salary than taking into considerations the other benefits.

When we are scouting to find a new job it is very self explanatory that you have to start at a lower wage because both you and the management are still adjusting what you are capable to make the company progressive or you are a bad employee. You must prove to your new company that you are asset that could bring more sales to increase the stature of the company assets. The company management is not blind to what you have been contributing to the progress of the company so you are nor given the proper increase in your salary.Do not ask too much to your company when you are still starting to work for them, just wait for your right move to make them believe you are worthy of the raise in your salary together with your promotion.

our asking salary should be reasonable enough to our abilities. We need to prove ourselves to them. but I remember my previous job when I asked them a salary which was very high for them. and they told me that I have to prove myself. I did negotiate it and in the end I was able to get the salary that I demanded. sometimes we need to be brave to walk away when we are not amenable to their offer. But I believe not all companies will arrive to the same decision. Thanks!

I think that it would very much depend on how much I was earning at my previous company, and why I had to leave it. I once had a job where I was very highly paid and the reason that I had to leave was because they didn't feel as though they could afford to pay my wage any more. For this reason, I did not ask for as high a wage at my new job, but I realised that I would have to settle for something a little bit lower if I wanted to remain in the new job. But if I think that the job that I was doing was worth more than the amount that they were offering to me then I would certainly mention that.

there are some things we really need to take into considerations before we arrived at a reasonable asking salary.

Yes, because this is your best time to negotiate. It does not always work but when it does you scored!

For me, the case is no. It should have been higher because of the experience and all but since I jump from a different field to another and then another, I wouldn't expect the salary to be higher and higher everytime I accept a new job offer. It's better than nothing at all right? So, I grab the opportunity once it is are reach.
15 May 12
I agree, you cannot ask for a high salary if you change your job field often. better stick to one job field so you can ask higher soon. but I understand that the enonomy is not doing good so a lot of people settle for less than nothing. I admire you for that.

jobfindonline: Yes. we always feel we are not being paid as we should be. But the job market in India is not good. So we cannot ask for more. If we ask more they will change the freelancer or the employee. of course it depends on one's confidence. To day I read Infosys top boss has been paid its top management a total of $10.7 million (over Rs.50 crore) http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/Infosys-top-management-wage-bill-tops-10-million-mark/articleshow/13129038.cms "Stephen R Pratt, executive council member of Infosys, was the top paid executive with a total compensation package of $2 million in the last fiscal. B G Srinivas, who now heads the BFSI vertical, was paid $1.19 million as compensation, while Ashok Vemuri, the global head of manufacturing and engineering services units at Infosys, was paid $1.18 million". This is in contrast to many people not being able to get even $1000 per month. Yes. if you are strong, confident then you can ask for more. i will not ask more because I am 60+ and there is no need for that also.
15 May 12
yes it also depends on the job market. there are many people earning so high with so little work. In contrast to those who really work hard and just earning a bit of it.

I will also ask for an increase in salary because I think I have learned a lot from my past experience and I can share all of this to my current work.
