Job Hunting

I find myself looking for a job- again. I still have my job though and it's only been 2 months since I had been hired by my current employer but now, here I go again. I don't know why I am like this or if ever there is somebody else who is like me. I hear most people say, "look for a job you truly love and you won't work for a single day in your life". How easy would it be to follow that saying. Only if I have graduated Bachelor's Degree! I only had an Associate Degree and most jobs I want require other types of degree. Perhaps, it is just like this in our country. Maybe in some other countries, they don't really look at the educational background. Oh, this is making me sad! I feel like I am always given a chance at employment yet when I am already there, it turns out that it's not what I wanted.
I don't know what I want, really. I don't know where or how I'll be happy and contented.

Hi girl_thinking
First let me/us know what subjects you have had in your Associates, and what interests you (anything, need not be related to your profession you are into). That can help me provide you a better way out.
I know where you belong to. But I am unsure of your age. But going by this discussion you should be somewhere between 18-23/24. Assuming this, and the discussion of course -
The Dream Job is not something that you drop on day one of your career. We arent that lucky. Right! So we have to struggle in the initial stages of our career to see the different aspects. So please dont worry on this aspect.
Next, please list down what are the things in your current job that you dont appreciate - can be anything from salary to work hours or even the work atmosphere or even the ideologies.
As a career consultant myself, I would definitely say - Frequent changes in your work place doe not help and neither goes well when you hunt for new jobs. Today, employers do believe that the more companies you leave, the more untrustworthy you are as that does indicate you are too impatient and non-committed to your work. 2 months is quite early to leave an organization if other things are okay.
ps.: in case you need a personal advice, please PM me as we are friends already. And I am always around for my dear friends.
(Note: For readers of this response - I am not doing the PM request for any monetary gains, I am only extending my support and the fact that I might be able to help/assist my friend. No reference or money will ever be involved here)

Ok. First thing - stop feeling bad about - the age, and also "I dont know what's best for me". Trust me, many many people dont know what they really want.
Now, do you take vacations? I feel that you are struck with some problems that you think are too big for you to handle. I felt this when I was 'just-after-college" days as I had too many things on my mind in regards to what I wanted to do in life (those days).
Going by the study part - you mention Courses in Secretarial. That is something really good as many people need these people. Reading your discussions I thing you are much better in English than many I know personally And so combining both of these let me ask you - Have you ever thought of being a Virtual Assistant to anyone?
See, I am not sure of what your likes and preferences or even interests are, so am basing my recommendation only on your skills (educational).(it can also be a situation where you never wanted to use the "Secretarial" as your career option)

Hi, hmm.. now I don't know what to say. I have somehow figured out why I feel like this towards my current job. You see, the tasks are really complicated but I think it could change for the better since we are just in the stage of starting out with the client. (I am trying my very best to stay positive). I am just taking it the wrong way, I am down right now because I feel overwhelmed by the complication but I know that I should take it as a challenge instead.
I watched the movie "Horrible Bosses" and it made me guilty because my bosses are good people. One time when my back was aching, they were so concerned and asked me if I need a different chair or if I need a time off.. Well, they are so nice!
I work for Cognizant, it is an Indian founded company and my bosses are Indian (you might know this company) Right now, I think I should stay and see if things will get better. Or perhaps I should say, I will help things get better.

Hi thesids, first, thank you for your advice. It makes me really happy to know I've made friends here in Mylot.
I would love to be on the age bracket you mentioned, but truth be told, I am 28 years old. Two more years and I will be 30 years old I know I am too old to be dealing with this kind of problem. But I can't help not knowing what I really want in life. I am the kind of person who thinks about doing something. As in really something. I don't want to just go from day to day. I want to be able to contribute something to this world. I just don't know how. I feel as if there is an energy inside me that is waiting to be discovered.
I feel like I am getting ahead of myself again. Anyway, I graduated Associate Degree in Secretarial. It is a two-year course plus I had a one year in AB English which I did not pursue for some personal reasons.
I know there are stages in jobs/careers and I guess where I am really struggling at is how to stay put once and for all. I don't know how to stop jumping from one company to another. I don't know how to be contented with what I have and where I am. In short, I don't know what's best for me.

I would say you are on a path of self discovery, it sounds to me like you are still young, and since you aren't sure what you really want you have to try different things till you find what you like. I managed to build a career when I was still working and i lasted at my last job for almost 8 years, but I discovered what I really wanted was not to have to depend on anyone to sign my pay checks. Don't let yourself get down when I was in my 20's i went through 12 jobs in a two year time span its part of life.

I like the ideology of me being on a path of self discovery It gives me a sense of hope. I know I am lost right now but when you say path of self discovery, I know I will get into the other side of the tunnel and when I do, I will know just exactly what to do. Well, to be exact, I am 28 years old. I know, I sound so childish and I shouldn't be this way. I feel like I stopped growing old and got stucked in my 17-year-old-self.

I'm 34 and I'm still figuring things out. I think we get stuck in patterns of life that keep us from growing, but as we let go of our fears we stare at our lives and decide we need change. I knew I wanted a family, my own house, and a job making over $36,000 per year, once I got those things I fell into a rut, now I just want my voice to be heard over the billions of other voices in the world.

You will find something - have faith! Sometimes it takes awhile to find the job that is right for you. Have you considered online colleges? Some employers will also pay for you to attend and get your degree.

We call online colleges as Open University here in my country and yes, I am considering this type of education. First, I think I should be settled with a job where I can last before I enroll myself. I support myself financially so being out of job is not an option, sadly

A hard fact is that as humans, we will never be contented with anything. That's why happiness seems too far away. It's okay to explore what you really want in life, go from job to job and see where you can be happy and contented. As for me, I never had that option since I badly need the job and I had to help financially in the family, what with all the debts we incurred when I was still in college. In our country, we really can't go anywhere unless we have a Bachelor's Degree or even a Master's Degree. Opportunities are too scarce especially in this city I live in. Maybe, if you really, really want something, try to stay at an okay job first, where you could also be given a chance to take some additional school units and finish a degree in no time, especially if that degree is what's needed to get your dream job. But, if it seems too far-fetched, just look for a job that will make you happy and be decided as early as possible on what you truly want. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for sharing your thoughts. It is somehow comforting to be reminded that it is only human nature that we don't get contented with things. There is just this desire in me that wants me to be settled once and for all. I may seem childish with the way I see things, as I have read some of the comments here, it makes me wonder even more why I act this way when in fact I am older than I actually seem. Oh well, life is upside down right now. But I am sure I will get there, no matter where that is. I will sure get there

Hey! I know how you feel, cause I feel like I cant be content myself. I have got a job for several months now and I like the place I work, I like my coworkers but I feel Im missing on my potential somewhat. I would like to have a job in research and development. In something progressive. But those jobs are sought after I guess. And it is not easy to land a job in such a field. So Im looking for something new constantly. A little bit extra money could not hurt either.
Therefore I think you should keep looking for a better job and better opportunity to use your talents and employ them for the greater good and remember it is never too late to get an education.

It seems like we are in the same boat! I am trying to stay as positive as I can. I don't want the rat race anymore so I will just be content of what I have right now. That or I'll start over again in something that I am not sure..
Hope things will be good for you as well!

I was like that before. I ended up resigning my job because I was not enjoying it anymore and thought that it was not what I wanted. But now, I'm getting older and I learned how to value my work and the time. I have been wasting my time a lot. I force myself to stay at my work for a purpose of surviving in this world and for reaching all my goals in life. This is not the job I want but what keeps me staying here is that because of financial needs and for my future as well. Iunderstand how you feel and I hope you find the right job for you. Learn to appreciate what you have and go for it for a couple of years or so.

I am sorry that you are having a hard time finding a job that will make you happy. I know that it is hard to find work when you do not have a college degree. I have a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Studies (teaching pre-school) and I am having a hard time finding work. I do not have the experience and no one wants to give me a chance. Can you go back to college and get a degree? I think college is a great place to find yourself.

good day girl_thinking,
with reference to your topic, it is really hard to look and find a job which you can be perfectly fit. as we all know, every job has their own imperfection. although you found it nice and perfect for you at first. sooner or later, you will find some defects on it. as a result, you will feel a bit unhappy. and there are times, you feel hesitant at first, but slowly you realized that the job and your employer are both fit to the post that you are looking for. hence, you cannot judge at your first sight on the job and on the employer. thus trouble do comes when you are already trapped at the middle. from their you can see what is really perfect for you. just like what you have had encountered. that you have some regrets after working in a span of 2 months. and now, you are again in the process of hunting another job. perhaps, at this point, try to do a little soul search. examining what things will bring you happiness. is it really the new job that you are hunting or an online home based job that can really give your heart and mind a piece of relaxation. sometimes, it is not the offline job that we want, hence, it can somehow be found on the either way around.
hope you can end on a sound decision that can really bring you true happiness.

Happiness can be found deep inside our hearts. Sometimes you have to turn your thinking into positive one for you to be able to like the work you are into. When finiding a job, make sure that before you grab it, you really like it cause there are chances you might end up like that-resigning from a job you never expected... why not save money first before leaving the company if you really didn't like being there. It's good to leave with money at hand before shifting to another job you want...
