And some people say they have no feelings...

I was standing talking to the roomie and petting Taj. I got distracted and let my hand drop and Taj reached over and grabbed my hand to be pet more.
He doesn't do this with the roomie, tho he will take pets from her happily. But if I'm around, he's with me.
In fact, when I went into the roomie's room Taj, Mo and Taillight were the cats in the room. Taj stood up to get pets. Pretty soon in came Pong, Ping, Tony, Timus, Prissy, Kismet, Blossom and Flower.
"They will all leave with you," the roomie said.
Well, she was mostly right, Mo, and Kismet stayed.
But I get so angry when I hear people say that animals don't think... well, they do, Taj knew how to make me pet him and he wanted my petting him enough to reach out and make me do so!
Are you one of those people that believe that lie?

considering the usual suspect,my boy cosmos, sat there and picked loose a knot with his claws the one day, definetly not.i always knew they thought, but this cat is shockingly analytical about how to get into/get things for himself.we have baby locks on almost everything.

I certainly agree, and I think that animals do have thoughts and feelings. They express when they want to be loved, they express when they're afraid, and at times I think they even express shame and embarrassment. Nenya sometimes comes straight up to me, curls up in my lap, and meows until I give her some love and attention. She doesn't do it often, as I don't think she's much of a lap kitty at heart, but I do believe that she loves me. One of my best friends (a long time cat-lover/owner) tells me that I'm the ONLY person she loves. My cat doesn't like strangers and barely tolerates family.

It must be so much fun living at your house with so many cats to be entertained by.
I hope Nenya mellows out as well. I like showing her off, and I can't do that when she's running and hiding at the sight of other human beings.

If they didn't have feelings and unique personalities that attracted us to them, there'd be a lot more pet rocks in circulation instead..

I believe that animals have feelings. They are quite intelligent, creative, and have very human emotions. A person that does not believe that animals have feelings must have never own or had experiences with them. In my experiences, I have known animals to be loving, curious, fearful, and even jealous. So if one believes animals have no feelings, he or she is clearly mistaken.

No I'm not. I totally agree with you that animals have a wide range of thoughts and emotions. They have just as many emotions as humans do if not more. I've lived with many different cats and dogs over the years, and from experience they form bonds with each other and 'their humans' that are stronger than some bonds between two humans I've seen. And they always know when someone is upset. My Bella knows when I'm having bad days with pain, and she'll follow me around, giving me love and grooming me, trying to make me feel better. I've always wondered how people could ever believe that they didn't have emotions. I remember getting into arguments with several people over whether or not animals have souls, and eventually I gave up on arguing with them, because people will believe what they like. But those of us who are close to animals know that they have emotions and souls, sometimes much more pure than that of the people around them.

My faith believes that animals have souls that never fell. All the ill and bad behavior that animals have are because of man and man's fall from grace - so they go straight to heaven... they don't pass go or collect a halo, but they also do not suffer any more.

Personally anyone that says Pets either Dogs, Cats, etc. do not have feelings and will pick who they want to be with, they have never been around them. Pet's do think and have feelings just like us humans do, and will feel neglected and sad if not getting enough attention. If animals did not think then most people would not want them around, as they can be your greatest friend in all times no matter what is going on around you.

What a load of crap!. Of course they think and they are brilliant communicators. Banjo lets me know he wants to eat, go outside or just wants some cuddles. He isn't as vocal as some cats I've had but he does "talk" to me at certain times. All my animals communicate in some way. Pickles even lets me know when one of the other animals wants to come inside. The goats are very curious and playful and they can be rambunctious and contented and they are able to portray all these behaviours in ways that let me know what they are about. To say animals don't think or feel is incredibly ignorant and stupid in my opinion.

Nope! I know full well cats can train their owners.
The 20 something pound maincoon would get on their backs as if to say "ATTENTION! ME! NOW!" The little black cats would follow their favorite up and down, up and down.
When the cats played with the wild skunks, well, you know something is going on. Interspecies play is unusual.
Then there are the kittens. Kittens slept in the bed, and their elder brother would look after them while Mom did her business.
Few cat owners, or relatives of cat owners, can believe the cat has no feelings.

Animals think! They have feelings, too! So many people think they don't because they are just animals! I know animals have feelings and are smart! I have been around animals must of my life and it just isn't cats! Dogs, horses, pigs and goats aren't stupid! Dogs are some of the most intelligent animals on land! At sea the dolphin's are the brainest of the sea creatures! Chimps, monkeys and Gorilla's are extremely smart! People who say dumb things about animals aren't animals lovers or owners! If not the humans are the dumb ones!

Cats are one of the most intelligent creatures out, they plot and plan and can read their owners like a book. They are so instinctive and expressive, I have always been fascinated by them!
All animals think and feel as do humans, I think some do more then others but I also think it depends on how they where brought up as to how much they will express themselves around they're owners. My vet has always told me I have the most expressive cats, they always let you now what they are feeling! Its very sweet.

Of course cats and animals of all kinds can think. They are smarter than we think. My cat knows how to get me to brush her and when I used to take her outside with her leash she brought it to the doorway to "show" me she wanted to go out. She stands over by the brush when she wants me to brush her which can even be every few hours if she's awake, she loves it!

Hello Elic and good morning. I believe that most animals do have feelings and are very intelligent. If they were not intelligent then they could not be trained as they are. They have feelings so want to please us and they know who loves them and they gravitate to that person. We had a mother cat that would only come and sit with me in the evening after the grandkids were in bed. Yes she would pull at my hand when she wanted petted and when I stopped if she wanted more she would again pull at my hand. Some can be very vindictive to.
The only time she was vengeful was one time she found some dirty clothes on the bathroom floor the kids left. She peed on them telling us that was not acceptable. We had another cat that peed om the bath mat in my daughter-in-law's bath room after she threw something at her in the laundry room.
The only other time she didn't use the litter box was when she thought it need changed or cleaned and then she would always go in front of the box or in the shower.
A friend of mine had two cats that would get vengeful when she was gone for a couple of days. They would go all over the place just to show her how misspleased they were. One morning she did not have to go to work and she decided to laze in bed extra long. The cats kept after her to get up and when she didn't the each one peed in her slippers not getting a drop o the floor.
I have not known may dog that are as vengeful as cats can be.

Oh, animals do think, even though there are those "dumb as a stump" types just like humans. And, they can even have some pretty complex thoughts. I have a friend whose cat Casper (RIP) had a cat bed that they decided should be in the basement. Well, Casper had other ideas about that and he went downstairs and pulled the bed up the stairs and back into the living room where he thought it should belong. They had never seen him do anything like that before, and they never moved the bed again! I have a cat, Chloe, who will open drawers to get my attention or open and shut the kitchen cupboards because she knows it annoys me and I'll do what she wants to get her to stop. She will also sit next to me and, if I'm not paying attention to her like she wants (she's not always in the mood), she'll reach out and tap me with her paw until I pet her. If I stop, she'll start tapping me again. She won't do this with anyone else. Our Baby Cat loves to play with crinkly paper that we ball up. Because she's the only one who does, she'll take the paper to the top of the steps and then throws it down the steps so she can chase it. She totally understood the concept of gravity and puts it to use for herself. Very smart kitty.

I think anyone that had a pet would agree that they think and are smarter than they are given credit for. They have their own personalities and like people some are smarter than others. They know how to get your attention, and let you know what they want. Some people might think they do things based on habits, and I'm sure that has something to do with it, but it's not all.
