To Enjoy Life You Must Suffer First

I've heard this before. I think it's a Buddhist concept, but I think the theory goes that in order to know what true happiness is, you must first suffer. I think that if you go through life struggling and suffering some of the worst luck in the world, but you fight tooth and nail and somehow manage to claw your way back to the top, you actually be happier than if you've had nothing but good luck all your life. What do you think?

I guess this is true. we have to suffer first before we realize how life can be spent the right way... sometimes people just don't think that things may be gone someday so they don't appreciate that much. It is good to appreciate things and people around you cause you don't know how long they'll stay with you and help you get through the top... specially when you are young, you have to know life is hard and we have to work together to make our lives better... sacrifices are there to make us strong and believe that all things will be okay in time...

I have been poor all of my life. I think the most I ever made was $23,000.00 a year. That was a factory/union job. I truely did feel rich at the time because I was't living check-to-check. The factory closed and I am now averaging $6000.00-$3000.00 per year working part-time in Retail/Sales job. I struggle everyday to figure out how I am paying my next bill that is due. I do feel rich however because I still have my health, my family and my part-time job. If I was to suddenly become a Millionare, I would try to help the less fourtunate, like Food Pantrys or Homes for Humanity, I would definately donate to Energy assistant programs.

I give my vote in that. We have to work hard to achieve our goal. Define our goal, choose a path, take an action, grab our victory. Don't forget to make an evaluation and always observe our surrounding.

A hilltop necessarily must be accompanied by a deep slope towards level grounds. Likewise happiness will only be acquired only when trying situations are overcome with full care and caution. Sufferings would definitely be rewarded at some point of time in one's entire lifetime. It is a general rule.

I think this is totally sensible that we should suffer so as to get the things we want.So it is also necessary for young to work hard to get to successful. And my dad always told me that though it is bitter but we can get forever sweet, isn't it? And thanks for your topic, this is really encouraging.

Now a days we have a lot of competition in every feild and it is possible to achieve success when we had a current dedication and a strong efforts to our dreams. We people enjoy our life when we achieve what we dream. We people cannot get our dreams eaisly, we need to suffer a lot. We have to face many challenges. To face those challenges we need to suffer a lot.

Agree. There is a saying in my mother tongue that says, the way to heaven passes through hell.If you are headed to heaven, you would have to pass through the hell first. This saying is created by someone who had faced the world, struggled hard to achieve his goal and succeeded after a lot of sufferings. If you try to avoid struggles, you will get nowhere.Success would remain elusive. You would have to take risks, struggle hard, taste failures, summon courage, boost your morale again and proceed ahead. That's the secret of success.

Once a person struggles or suffers, that person longs for the feeling of happiness. In that way, that person is able to appreciate what happiness means. And once that person overcomes his struggles, he will know happiness.

Suffering is one thing we used to avoid. No one likes to be in this kind of situation. It is not the way of making lives to suffer. Though the situation cannot be avoided, it happens for a reason.

In life, to suffer is a part of life. The people need to be broad-minded to take it. Life is not a life without sufferings.

In the family, there are some point that one member will do bad things. The sufferings will not be bestowed upon him only, the whole family are also affected. The bright side, the family will stay together and support one another.

What a generative discussion! I do hope you come back and comment on all of the people who decided to come and discuss! I used to believe this, pain and suffering helps you to realize the success, the sweet but I think it is a misled and misunderstood notion and I also think it's one of the biggest downers in humanity. Now, I do believe that we all have our challenges and things of course do happen but this idea of perpetual suffering and pain does not have to be. We tend to try to turn a negative reality into something tolerable or bearable. Our lives are a direct result of our belief system. Our constant and overriding belief system which is heavily influenced by our environment, which usually works us into a stew of having to struggle, to work hard and then at some point, we will gain. We are told over and over again about this constant pain we must feel before we feel joy. I don't agree. If we follow the inner guidance, our intuition, our God-within and trust that through God, all things are possible, we can achieve and our possibilities are endless. Most people will never achieve a status beyond average. People who go beyond are usually the non-conformists who follow their dreams and heart despite what the world says.
