Do you Take a Break from MyLot?

Singapore
May 19, 2012 4:22am CST
Dear mylotters, I know some of you are here on myLot day and night, almost 24/7. My question is do you take a break from myLot? For me, I'm here on and off. When I feel tired of the discussions and could not find that I could passionately respond to, I'd leave myLot for awhile to come back again fresh and furious. So do you take time off myLot?

I have not taken a break from MyLot so far, but take several ten minute breaks from writing to stretch my legs. I reckon I work about ten hours a day. I have other sites I have to monitor, answer questions, pose questions, check mail from two in boxes, write articles and so on. I want to get to two dollars a day and then more and more. When I take a break I go outside too to check on the flowers in the garden and nip buds.

You are here ten hours a day? Wow! I guess you are not working or already retired? I can't imagine spending that amount of time on just mylotting alone. I'm sure you go off and do other online stuff too, but I know I don't have that luxury to do so. Keep mylotting!

10 hours ? I think that is not worth it at all for $2/day since it is just too little. But if you are working on you own website or something big on your own which can bring you a decent income after some time, it will be worth it. But working on others website for others, and receive the same income over and over again, it's just not worth it. I worked part time in this restaurant, i get like $10/day, it is very low pay for restaurant in my country, but i'm happy there, i basically just sit there and hang out with other co-worker because it is not busy at all. Sometimes i even sleep during working hour since there's no customer at all and my co-workers just hang out chatting with each other. My point is, online earning is like 30 minutes to 1 hours work and i only use it to shop online for little stuff.

I am just new here and i guess i will stay online here that long this vacation. Im not going to sacrifice my 24 hours here at mylot maybe im just going to make 20 post a day in different discussion. It was also a good way to spend my vacation at home to earn some money.

I do take a break in mylot. If i really want to spend my day with mylot, then i will do it. If i don't, then leave it. I am visitting mylot just only when i can concentrate with it so that my effort will not be lost. Last month, i am visitting mylot every other day but this month, i seldom visit and make new discussions cause i want to have an established blog and i am making my way on it.

I think this is the same for most mylot users since the first time we joined mylot is for the "reward" offered for our activities here, but as time passed by, we realize that it does not work as to make fast cash here. And good luck for your blog.

Hi erjnsimon, It's understandable to place more emphasis on your own blog instead of a forum site that belongs to someone else. I think your blog will bear more fruit than mylot. Your blog will have more potential of passive income, but mylot does not have that benefit. By the way, what's your blog about?

To take a break from any addiction is not an easy task and myLot is no exception. I must thank my other priorities that force me to keep away from myLot!

550 dollars? Could that even be possible with myLot? Or did you make a mistake with the figures?
• Singapore
22 May 12
So you confess! You are addicted to mylot. I'm not that addicted to mylot. I think after I respond to all the people who left a comment in my discussion, I'm going to take a long break. You may not see me here much on mylot, but I will eventually come back here to mylot again. That's because I have reached my payout! I'm jubilant because I have not reached payout for many many months.

To reach pay outs one needs to be here. I joined on on 14th Octobere 2009 and I got my first payout on Janauary 31 2010. Since then I have not looked back. My earnings here have been around 550 dollars. But I am here for more reasons than just earning. This is a treasure trove of relaxing moments.

I do take a lot of break. To tell you honestly, I don't stay here always because not all the discussions interests me and even how hard I think I can't make a response to them. I used mylot in my vacant time and when I'm feeling better. I can't properly make a response if I'm not in the mood. I use MyLot to recover my stress sometimes, to gain information from others. MyLot is my break and MyLot refreshes me.

Whenever, I can't respond to a discussion, I will just go to the next one. I'm like you guys. I spend about 30 minutes to an hour here on days when I'm more free. On other days, I spend zero time here because I have work and classes to attend. That is why taking a break for a couple of days may be refreshing and there might be more discussions you can respond to. That's the main idea of taking breaks.

Ya, I can't spend much time here specially during weekdays when there is class. It's still a summer vacation that's why I can spend lots of time here. There are times that I like to make responses to more than 10 discussions and there are times that even a response to a single discussion is hard. Maybe I'm really not interested to it.

This is very true. The first to the third day of i'm being a mylot member, i think it's easy to earn here by just posting, so i work very hard and spend like 5-6 hours on mylot, but most of that time i just ready others discussion but didn't reply since i just interested to read it and don't know what to answer it with. But now, just like you mylot is for my break when i think there's something to share or there's just nothing to do. Nowadays, i mostly spend about 30 minutes on mylot and then i go and do something else.

I don't spend myLot 24/7. Sometimes like today I spend whole day here in myLot because I didn't have anything to do. I think I spent 6 to 8 hours today but it is not 8 hour straight.

Well, i can do some mylotting even ten hours a day. However, not straight. I may rest for hours then go back again. Well withing 24 hours i can spend my time here in mylot for up to 10 hours. But i am not doing mylot everyday.

Wow, 6-8 hours a day on mylot seems too much for me. I usually stays on mylot for like 1-3 hours tops every day even though i have nothing to do, since it's making my head dizzy.

Not 24/7, but I spend most of my online time on myLot. I still sleep, cook, clean the house, be with my husband and kids. But, when I'm free, and at night, if I'm not yet sleepy or if I wake up too early in the morning - I would hit the pc and start posting and commenting. On weekends, that's when I have less time on myLot because my husband would take me out on a date. So, i'm out of the house longer.

Hi jureathome, It's great to know that your family is not neglected while you mylot. At least you are not addicted. I have read of situations when people forget about their children when they play online games. I think that's a bit too much! That is very nice of your hubby to date you during the weekends. So sweet of him!

My kid can play on her own, and the nanny is there to watch. She thinks I'm working whenever im on the computer, so she tries not to bother me. And, when she misses me, she just goes up to my room and cuddles and kisses me, then goes back downstairs to play again. But, at night, I make sure I give her my time before she goes to sleep. She wants to be cuddled to sleep, and sometimes I tell her a bed time story. My husband is asleep at day, coz he works at night, so he can't complain if Im on the computer most of the time. But, yes, during weekends, I try my best to give them my time.

I do feel a little guilty if I mylot when my girl or hubby is around. I feel that I need to spend time with them. My daughter also plays on her own. After feeding her lunch, she will find her own things to do. Hubby works during the day while I work flexible hours. So I can only mylot when I'm free. We try to go out to have a meal during the weekends or enjoy the sun, sand and sea at the beach or both.

I have been doing pretty good. I kind of started slacking off here after my son's surgery a few years ago. I just don't have the time, although I read a lot of the email notifications, even if I don't respond to them. I really miss the people.

Hey Thoroughrob, How are you doing? I'm also seldom here much. I don't see the people I normally interact with here. They may have moved on to other better paying sites. Who knows?

Yeah, me too. I have been here for a couple of days but I have not met the people I normally interacted with. You are one of them. I don't know where the rest went.

I might not be here day and night, but the first thing I do every morning is to check MyLot! After I do that, then I can start checking other things, like the newspapers and my Hub Pages entries. I don't usually leave a comment, as entries have to really inspire me first before I do that. But still, I enjoy being in ML!
• Singapore
22 May 12
Really? You check myLot first of all; not your emails or stuff? Do you write a lot on Hubpages? DO you earn a lot from there?
@sylvia13 (1850)

22 May 12
Well, replying to emails takes longer! I don't write a lot on HP, but I should as they are the ones that pay, although they can easily reject material I am trying to publish, as they seem to have high standards!
• Singapore
23 May 12
Yes, HP ever rejected some of my stuff but that is probably because it is similar material already published. I was thinking of going back to HP but creating the Hubpages is such a hassle. I hope they simplify the process a bit to encourage me to write there more often.

I am here on mylot today after a very long break. Had changed my job recently and hence hardly get anytime to be online nowadays. Today since my boss is not around I decided to just check in. There was a time when I would be on this site almost 24/7. But not anymore.

I'm not here 24/7, but I do take a break from Mylot. I even made a discussion a few weeks ago that I was absent for a day here. We all need a break from everything, even Mylot. It's always a good feeling after that break and as you've said, coming back here fresh and furious is one of the good things a break could give you. It gives us better ideas and fresh ones to share and we know our responses would still be of quality.

Just one day? I can be gone for days or weeks. But I somehow come back to mylot. It's better that way too. You feel more refreshed. I have been here a less than a week and I'm already quite tired.

Exactly, you will feel bored eventually after a week or 2 if you are always here almost 24/7. So for us to run out of words to say and to be refreshed, a break would really be very helpful.

Yes, that's true, we all need to take a break sometimes. Because when i first joined mylot i active on the site for like 5-6 hours/day and on the third day, i am already sick looking and replying to discussion. I also run out of things to reply for other members post.

I take break from mylot when I have so many assignments and have exams, I also take break from mylot when Im on travel and I cannot connect to internet. It is hard to stay away from mylot because I have nowhere to visit since I closed my old FB and restart a new fb but I dont use this new fb so mylot is my only shelter and my only companion day and night. I do mylot in the morning and at night when I finished doing my activity. mylot helps me to refresh my mind.

Sometimes we see mylot as a place to get away from the stresses in life. Glad that mylot helps you to relax and refreshes your mind. By the way, why did you shut your old FB and start a new one? I have not been on FB much. Sometimes I read terrible news there and I get affected by it. So I have stayed away from it.

I visit Mylot everyday, at least to see what is going on here. If I find a discussion that interests me, I would comment. But if there is not, I would just search for a while and then close it. The point is that I would open Mylot daily. It doesn't matter whether I would stay here long time or short time.
• Singapore
20 May 12
Everyday? Sometimes I just don't have that much time to be here every single day. It's good that you could be here every day, even for a short time to just check out what's going on. It shows that you are not wasting unnecessary time here, where you could use for other things.
• Singapore
22 May 12
Well, I guess it depends on their purpose of mylotting. I come here to learn something new about the sites I'm on as well as to earn a bit of money. If your objective is to earn money but you hang around without actually typing anything, then maybe waste of time. But all depends on your goal.

Sometimes i take a break from mylot for like 2-3 days. It's not easy to find a discussion to participate in when you are here 24/7. Because some or most people here didn't make an actual discussion like replying, they only post a discussion and leave it there and some other people just comment their opinions and leave it just like that. The easiest way to earn in mylot is creating a discussion, not post something and find for something else.
• Singapore
20 May 12
Hi superbadx, I totally agree with you. After answering some discussions here for a few minutes, there are no more interesting ones. And I'd do something else. I do take a few days' break. It can be longer like a few weeks. But I do come back to check for discussions. Usually, there will be more exciting discussions when I come back from my break. You are right about the fact that many people just post discussions. If they do not reply to the responses, they will not earn much. At the same time, a conversation is not created. That's not fun at all.
• Singapore
22 May 12
You have a point. Mylot is a discussion site. I have always thought of it as a forum site. Mylot is more interative than that. Money is not the only motivation here. There's a lot you can learn from the people and discussions here. I pop in to check out money making methods, but there's nothing serious here though. If people are serious about online money making, they will not really hang out here. It's not worth many people's time actually.
• Malaysia
20 May 12
Yeah. But you are totally not one of them since i see that you reply every single reply on your discussion. Mylot can be a really interesting place to hang out online and at the same time earning. But some people just think about the money and bored themselves thinking about it. Honestly, when i first joined mylot that's all i can think of, "Money". But after some time, i realize that it's easier if we didn't think about it and enjoy our self. At the same time i also realize that mylot isn't a forum (that's what i think of it when i first joined) It's a discussion site where we discuss, and not just leave our opinion and go away.

It's true SydneyHazelton, if we have considerable time and are willing to put in effort here and take care of our own discussion by commenting all of them, certainly we would earn more If I have more spare time I would like to get more penny, writing new topics ever now and then and commenting back to all the responses. It's fun as well to have back and forth commenting actually besides the penny made

Hi SydneyHazelton, I read and do myLot posts on and off whenever I have free time. Therefore I don't have any fixed time to respond discussions here. Even though if I could spare my time to type post I would give up as well if I really can't find any topic that I'm interested.
