It depends on what mistakes I make.If there is nothing wrong with the readers' understanding,it's OK.Maybe you needn't do anything.:)But if they can not understand what you're talking about because of the spelling problems, you should do something to let them know.
I think spelling errors are acceptable, for the more we write, the more likely we make spelling mistakes. If you make a mistake here, putting an comment explaining the mistake is all right.Anyway, most of the readers are tolerant about this.

Thank you so much for your very inspiring response. You inspired me to write more and maybe make lots of mistakes more. Lol :)
Thanks again...

I'm one of the lucky ones in that my spelling is, for the most part, pretty good and my typing is accurate (numbers are the things I'm bad at). I can tolerate a couple of very minor spelling mistakes, but if I'm trying to read something which is riddled with them, it makes it very hard work. Also, there are some words which if they are mis-spelled, can change the whole sense of what you are trying to convey. For instance, a lot of people will spell the word 'definitely' as 'defiantly' and those two different spellings have completely different meanings to one another...so, a piece of writing which contains that sort of wrong spelling, would make no sense.

Hi there Preciousjayje,
Generally, the one which has been teaches to me before, when a word is misspelled, then it is incorrect. No matter if it is still sounds like correct. However, according to some, since in every general rule, an exemption follows, so, not all misspelled words are claimed to be incorrect. Thus, if the word still executes the same sound, then it will be deemed correct even if the spelling is not correctly written.
To that above, that is the one I am telling if ever a person somehow express an unacceptable attitude towards a word that has been misspelled. After all, nobody is perfect. And everybody commits mistakes.

I have wrote something spelled wrongly here a couple of times already, but I was not judged or criticized for it because I believe it is not accepted here. But in other places, like at work, we just laugh at it and joke around with it. It's cool when you work with good people because they don't know how to criticize you but only laugh at it. I don't write in other websites or let others see my writings so I'm safe with it . Also, we're all human, we all have mistakes and typo errors.

Hi, Preciousjayje!
Fortunately, I have never been misunderstood by Mylotters here. If there are some sentences that I wrote confused them, they usually would confirm their understanding first and then after I correct them or agree with their understanding, they would then give their opinion.
However, so that if we won't be misunderstood, I think it is better for us to re-read what we write before we post it.

I agree with the others, we make mistakes, even I do and spelling was my best subject in school. Now I am assuming, since you started this in writing, do you mean misspelling in books? Because if it is here on mylot, I sometimes just write the word correctly; not really pointing it out and hope the person sees the mistake.
If you are talking about writing as in publishing a book, I will have to say, maybe a word or two, but not a lot. I have tried reading a local author's "self-published" book before and between the bad grammar and misspellings, I couldn't get past the first page. This is why I won't self-publish my first novel, I don't want my readers to be so confused, that they can't read the whole book..
Oh, and welcome to mylot...

This topic is a sore spot for me, since I am a writer and it is expected that I have an excellent grasp of both spelling and grammar. And sometimes, I failed to deliver such standards due to many occasions and reasons. I do feel like an idiot, claiming and being proud of what I do yet failing in the most and even obvious manner.
Although I am a habitual breaker of spelling rules both in long hand and computer writing, I don't take it too deeply since it is a common occurrence and I was sure I'm up for a revision.
It really depends on who reads it how much wrong spellings they could take. I myself can forgive a few but too much will irritate me. As said, it depends on how much you take it and how much you are willing to let go. Even the rules of spelling and grammar are not invincible.

It never happened to me before although I admit that I'm very bad in spelling. Try to spell check you work before you show it in public to avoid the same incidence.

I'm quite good at spelling. If I write something official, I always double-check it and proofread it before sending it in. Otherwise, I sometimes make typos when I'm in hurry, but as I say, I always check stuff before I send it somewhere official. About spelling bad... well, I'm a bit of a grammar/spelling freak. I think most of the times you can tell a lot about a person's intellect by looking at their spelling. of course, no one has a 100% correct spelling, and one or two mistakes are not that bad. But if someone has excessive and several mistakes, they are either really uneducated or lazy except for if they have dyslexia, but that can be easily spotted... some people just fake it in order to get away with being indifferent yet not being criticized. If I can't read a writing I should, I'm gonna tell them that their spelling is less than perfect and makes it hard for me to understand or if they make a huuuuge, tremendously bad mistake (like misspelling a famous person's-I'm not meaning celebrities, but more like poets and historical figures-name wrong and not in a typo way).

It depends on what kind of mistakes you make.If the spelling mistakes don't influence the readers' understanding,it's OK.You needn't do anything about it.But if the readers can not understand what you're talking about because of the mistakes, you should give the readers an explanation.
I think spelling mistakes can be acceptable, for the more you write, the more likely you make such mistakes. If you misspell something here in myLot,just put a comment explaining the mistakes.Anyway, most of the readers are tolerant about this.So I think we shouldn't worry about this too much.
