Do you believe the mistakes we made in the past will haunt us in the future? I believe when we make mistakes we learn lessons and those lessons teach us to be the person we are today. What were some mistakes you believe you made in the past that had consequences for you today?

To make it sound more positive, I would say past mistakes teaches us a lesson that helps us be a better person in the present and future. Perhaps, if one hasn't learned from those mistakes, then it will come to haunt you.
I am actually trying to think of a big deal mistake Ive done in the past, to answer your question, but nothing comes up. Perhaps, its the time of the day, and my brain's not functioning too well. Or, perhaps I'm just so happy and content with my life right now, that I can hardly think of anything that may haunt me in the near future.

I like that outlook myself. Mistakes were lessons we had to learn so we could appreciate our lives more. There are some decisions I wish I could've changed, but they led to parts of my life I would never give up.

We have to be smarter and wiser otherwise we can't teach our kids to not make those mistakes.

I think we all would like tojust be hapy and move on, but then there are those days when you look at yur life and you ask, how did I wind up here, and you realize you made a bunch of mistakes. Part of the process is to admit you made the mistake, but like you said then you have to let it go and move on.

I think there are times for all of us where we could have treated someone better, sometimes that person will forgive us, but sometimes we just have to forgive ourselves and try harder the next time.

I think my biggest mistakes were the way I treated people I didn't like (to my great shame). But when I realized how wrong it was, I took that experience, prayed for forgiveness and changed my attitude, including my thoughts because it's not only the way you treat people, but the way you think about them. God knows your heart.

The mistakes that I had for the past is my ex boyfriend who only thinks about money . Time goes by, I learn to forgive him and from now on, I focus to earn money rather than having a boyfriend.

That's a good lesson to learn but a better one is, don't focus all your time trying to make money. Money by itself can't bring happiness, it is only a means to buy the things that will make you happy, and at some point you have to start enjoying them.

Definitely those mistakes of the past will eventually haunt us sometime, somehow, maybe on a good way. It will make us a better person as we tend to re-route to the correct path and never walk on the same path again.
Selecting the wrong career, I believe, is one of my greatest mistake. My course was someone else's choice but I never had bad feeling about him/her. I know, I'm too young back then and never have a voice on my choices. Good thing, I was given another chance to take and finish the course that I love. Now, I'm working hard to have it enriched so I could have a better job that pays "good" and will eventually make me a better person.

No one knows the pain of choosing the wrong career more than me. I wasted over 10 years and wound up no where, but Im pursuing my writing and I hope to get somewhere with it.

Yes I am very passionate about my writing. Whether it is a poem, an article, or a novel the words I write mean a lot to me. Thanks for the encouragement.

So give a mistake you made that made you learn something to make you successful. I should have added that to the question too.

It's not as bad as hurting someone who never deserved it, because you were so miserable you wanted to see others that way. I think we both learned lessons that made us better in that regard.

Thanks Philly for reminding me that I need to include an example. It maybe a mistake not to post to this discussion and will haunt me eventually.
Selecting the wrong person for a selfish reason is one of my mistakes in the past that made a better person. Luckily, I have the chance to repair the damage and having now with the person I truly love.

Yes, the world is a messed up place even when you don't make mistakes, but sometimes you just have to forgive yourself even when the world wants to rub your nose in things.

Hi there PhillyDreamer!
No one is perfect and we all make mistakes from time to time. However, the important thing is to learn from our own mistakes. The truth is, we also learn from the mistakes of other people. I have had many mistakes in the past and I must say that each of those mistakes have taught me many lessons. I find it necessary to recover quickly from mistakes and use them to promote growth and self-improvement.

I make so many mistakes in the past, sometimes the same old mistake also haunt me again, i need to learn from my mistakes and treat them like a lesson so that i can become smarter like you said. I still need to work hard on that, keep repeating the same old mistake is like a habit to me, i must be determined to change for my own sake next time. Sigh!

The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same things over and over again and expecting things to be different. Learn those lesson quick before you live to regret something.

That's a good way to look at things. I should try to be more positive in my life, but darn there goes another mistake. Will I ever be able to get it right?

We try to learn from the past. Sometimes, when mistaken once, we barely shrug it off and till we've done it twice, the lesson sinks in. Somehow for some people, it takes a bigger blow for them to learn from the past. I try to learn from my mistakes, even from other people's mistakes. It is not worth doing something wrong when you know the right choice.

Some people are just stubborn and insist on making their own mistakes. Is it really possible to learn from another's mistakes unless you were there to witness it first hand. Sometime when people give advice we don't listen

it depend on who you are. some people cant forget their mistake. some can move on. some learn from mistakes, some repeat the mistakes.
i think i have done a lot of mistakes. one of it is i used to trust people easily. then i get used and manipulated by people. so now, it is hard for me to put my trust in people, especially someone new.

I think you should trust people, but only to a certain point. Never trust someone with something you can't afford to lose.

Making mistakes and learning lessons from them is human nature, yes i did some serious mistakes in the past and honestly speaking i am not really happy with where i am today..I couldn't made right decisions at the right time. but still I am quite hopeful for the future, who knows the destiny..may be i get another chance..

I like to believe we all get a second chance to get it right, but sometimes the lesson you need to learn is just how to move on after something bad happens, and to never repeat the mistake again.

There is a Chinese verb"do wrong once and you'll never hear the end of it",what we do in the past will have impact on the matter more or less in the future. So we should walk each step carefully, especally the problem of feeling, friendship and family.

That is so true, but it's important to not let the negativity of others, who would condemn you for your mistakes, push you into making even bigger mistakes. Sometimes it's the reminders of those who can't forgive which give us the conviction to stay on the path we know is right.

hmm for me past mistakes teaches us on how to deal with future problems, for what I know, I believe and I experienced. No past mistake will haunt me in the future. Mistakes/ problems are put unto us to make us a better person if we deal with it in a positive way and it will also help those persons who we deal when we have problems they also get experience from us. No mistake will haunt us. But mistake that we didnt make solutions will.. Thats what i do believe.

So true bro.A few days ago I met a young man who had done some things he wished he could undo. At the time, I was surprised by his candidness and didn't know how to answer, but if I see him again, here is my reply:“We all have done thing we regret. Some are huge, some are tiny; but we've got to remember that our mistakes can build character. Every person, including Adam and Eve have made mistakes, but it’s what we learn from our mistakes that can help us build character and build us up. Mistakes can humble us, they can bring us closer to God, and the lessons learned can be used for future success. But if we do not learn from our mistakes, then we could miss some very important lessons. I have regrets, but I wouldn't want to go back and change my mistakes because I know that by God's grace I have learned and been made better than before, even when I messed up."If you mess up, learn from it, or you might be missing God's grace in action."In life there are no mistakes, just
lessons unlearned"
