Am I The Only Person In The World Who Isn't Money Motivated

I'm living in a world where everyone has their head down trying to look for every penny that has fallen on the ground. I've seen parents that have chosen to leave their children so they could work jobs hundreds of miles away. I have seen people who have replaced love with dollar signs, and only look to marry someone for the size of their bank account. I have seen people be treated like garbage by someone, just because that person gave them a pay check every week. Why does money seem like the only motivating factor for people? This world could function just the same if people would stop all their money grubbing and just do a job because it needs to be done. I'm tired of hearing, I work to put food on the table and to support my family. Before the invention of money, people used to hunt for their food, or grow it on a piece of land. Supporting your family meant protecting them from danger, building a roof over their heads, and loving them. Now our love is represented in dollar signs, and it makes me sick the things people do for money.

I think I get what you mean! It would be so much easier to live in a carefree world. If we stop how money rule us, there will be no war in this world!

Well, as what you have mentioned in your other comment, it is more of a power that people want to attain rather than money. Your idea is nice but I doubt if people who already have power and money would drop what they have just to create a whole new society. Sad, isn't it..

If these people were effective leaders, I would have no problem putting them in charge, but if the can only think of themselves and not the whole its a problem. I have no wish to lead a group of people, but I will only follow a leader if I know that he or she has the overall interest of everyone at heart. I'll dig a hole if you tell me that whole if going to help put a roof over peoples head, but if I dig that whole I want to know that someone is going to worry about putting a roof over my head as well.

There has to be something besides money to motivate people to live life. We've reached a point where we have learned so much about the world and the universe. We know how a society should operate, why not develop a different system that doesn't involve money.

PhillyDreamer, You can count me in this group. Earning money has never been my first priority, it's always been my family and the responsibilities. I think you have mistaken here, it's not the money that people are trying to earn, it's the power that they want to have so that they can control their present and future. We worship god only because it's in his hand to control our future and the way this world is, it's not God, it's his extra ordinary powers that we love and respect and we hope, he'll help us in our tough times. Similarly, if for worldly things, one can have an option to control, s/he will certainly go for it, this is the reason why people run after money to have a control on their future.

Yes but it's that pursuit of money which ultimately puts the control of your future in other peoples hands. A CEO pays his employee $30,000 per year which to the employee seems like a lot of money, but the same CEO is also the one driving up the prices making things less affordable so that $30,000 will never be enough and the CEO keeps dangling the carrot in front of the employee so he keeps on spinning his wheels to get somewhere he will never be able to get to.

Money is only the face of the devil, the actual devil is the desire to control things and for that you need power, money is one of the forms of power that deludes people of giving them everything that they want...whatever it is..running after it is not the right thing.

I think you are right. I can choose to earn just enough to live my life the way I enjoy, but when it comes to sacrificing my freedom to have more. Money will always come second to me.

No you are not the only person who thinks this way and sees this. I have seen this for a long time and it really bothers me to see the world going this way! Money is the root of all evil and it is destroying humanity and causing people to care about the almighty dollar while living, breathing people suffer because of it! It is rare for people to see these things because everyone is so consummed with making and spending money that they do not see what is really going on around them. This is what the government wants.....the gov wants stupid sheeple who don't pay attention to what is really going on. There are more of them for sure but people who think the way you do, do exist!

I call people sheep all the time, especially every Black Friday, when they line up in front of Wal-Mart just to get fleeced. LOL. The description so acurate it's scary.

I wouldn't say that I am motivated by money as such, but the thing is that the rest of the world is motivated in that way, and that means that we have to be thinking about it most of the time to a certain extent. Everything in the world costs a lot more than it did in the past, and this is meaning that we have to work harder in order to make the money go as far as it used to. This means that we don't really have all that much of a choice other than to spend our time thinking about money, so even if it isn't what we want to think about, it is just something that has to be done.

Think of the reason why everything cost more money, its because the greedy people in charge of pricing are charging more to get more money in their pockets and in essence to force their employees to work harder to live the same lifestyle. It's only when we say we have had enough and really take control of our own destinies is when things will change.

It's just how it is. You have to have money to survive, and it's getting harder and harder to get money.

This is more of a philosophical discussion. Theoretically everything in this world could be done without money, the only reason money exist is because greedy people want to hold power over others.
