Can you suggest a way to prevent ants from infesting my computer's keyboards? They have already eaten up on one, a Logitech brand keyboard. Now, they are posing to destroy another one, my new keyboard. :(

No matter what you do, see to it that your hands are clean and doesn't have the smell of food or anything that attracts ants every time you touch or hold your computer or your keyboard. Just a speck of anything they are attracted to, in seconds they are there and in multitude.

Thanks for the advice. I sometimes is fond of eating something or drinking something while in front of my PC. I think you're right, it attracts ants, through the smell of food.

Just stop eating in the front of computer, especially with crumby foods. And clean your place once a week to avoid infestation of these insects. If cleaning doesn't effect at all, try to use pesticides at the trails of these ants.

We didn't drop anything on the floor in the kitchen and I vacuumed constantly. Sprays didn't work and they are not safe at all to use inside your home and are not humane. And they are said to cause cancer. NOT safe, especially around pets. The natural spray did not work either and there was a warning on the bottle not to get it on your skin. Not my idea of safe and natural. It is SO infinitely easier to put these little baits around rather than to spray chemicals in your own house.

Hi there! Aside from not eating in while working on your computer, you should also keep your hands clean before you touch your keyboard. The ants won't come near anything if they can not smell something which they may thought as food. You could also buy a keyboard made out of plastic and not the one made of rubber. Hope this would help.

The only thing I can suggest, never try to munch food while using the computer. Try to clean it up again. It is just a suggestion.

hello I guess the best thing to do is to avoid any food near to your computer. Eating near your computer might be the reason. Ants are really smart, and they can find a way to eat the small particles stock everywhere. Hope you can solve your problem so it will not destroy the other keyboard..:) Have a great day.,

Ants are common house pest and they are quite annoying most especially that they often route on your home appliances and devices. Somehow, you best option is to stay away from the keyboard and on your desktop computer when you are in the need of eating something. Be it a snack, or a meal, you should eat it at the right place which is the kitchen. Because ants are attracted to food most especially sweet foods. Another thing you should consider is to keep a tidy environment. keep a tidy office space wherein it is not cluttered and no mess such as food debris are scattered all over. Once in a while, you should also vacuum your keyboard. Lastly, if such will also persists, you can always contact your local pest control specialist because they are more honed on preventing house hold pests.

Stop eating in front of your computer and try to put a baygon chalk around your keyboard or the table where the computer is located. You can also wipe a cotton dip with vinegar mix with water the ant don't want the smell of vinegar.

Hi, Once, I have these ants inside my new printer and it almost ruined it. Good thing I took immediate action to get rid of them short of dismantling the whole thing. I don't eat in front of my system nor I don't find any reason why they want to get inside there except, maybe for the new smell of the ink. I cleared the table of all things and rubbed axle grease (the only thing I could get my hands on in a pinch) on the back and on the table legs and made sure they could not get access to my computer units. That solved the problem, I could not find any ants now. I think they don't like the smell of the axle grease or they are afraid they might stick to it and die on the process.

Try introducing some termites. They'll eat up your keyboards long before the ants get to infest them - Problem solved!

Get some ant bait traps from your local supermarket or home store like Lowe's or Home Depot. They are very inexpensive and I have to say way more humane than stepping on them and leaving them half alive and such. I also don't believe in controlling them outside as this is where they belong and they are good for aerating your garden and fertilizing it. Raid double control brand worked great for us. It kills the queen and therefore it obliterates the entire colony. This has been the best solution for me as I had thousands in my kitchen last summer. I nipped this in the bud as soon as I saw the conga line starting this year with the bait.

Do you know the source of these ants? Is your computer set up outside, or in a building of some sort? If you can stop the source of the ants leading to the keyboard, that might help. Also, if you can keep any foodstuffs away from the computer area, they will have no attraction. I once had a frog in my CPU, but he didn't harm anything. And a lizard. It didn't hurt anything either.
