Here is another example of how religious fanatics abuse their belief systems to control other people. As an American I really don't feel it's my place to tell another country how to live, but when one of our pop icons tries to bring something good to another country she should not have to fear for her life and the lives of her fans. Lady Gaga had to cancel her show because Muslim extremist made threats to sabotage her concert. Did she make the right decision in canceling the concert? Was there a better way this all could have been handled? How do you feel about this disappointing incident?

This also happened recently in my country. We have a large population of muslims here. But it wasn't the muslims here that made an uproar about Lady Gaga's concert here. This time it was the attention grabbing christian organization or whatever they choose to call themselves. They thought that Lady Gaga's songs are quite immoral and inappropriate. But that didn't stop the fans. The concert went well and the christian organization didn't make a dent. The christian community here didn't care what the organization thought. They went ahead and got tickets to the concert anyway. The entertainment industry people also helped a little thwart to the religious sector's attempt to stop the concert. . They were interviewed and were in favor of the concert proceeding as planned as they see no harm in the celebrity's songs. I personally don't give a daamn what her songs are about. Everyone is entitled to free expression of any art form. What good is morality anyway when there's no one to check those who think they create laws?

And oh yes, while there are mixed emotions about her decision. I think she did the right thing. She does not want to endanger her staff, millions of dollars of equipment and the rest of her band wagon in a country that doesn't want them. The organizers and producers of the concert should have thought of the implications having her in their country in before anything else.

Catholics are just a bunch of hypocrites in our country. Who knows the priests themselves could be dancing to the groove of Lady Gaga's songs(what a sight that could have been) and they're just too "holy" to admit it.

It's seems like the same old story time after time. A small group of people always try to ruin it for a large group of people, because they believe their religious beliefs should be imposed on everyone. It's just sickening at this point.

Her concert here in the Philippines should have been cancelled be the government. I'm totally sad it was not cancelled!

Yes, I think she did. It's unfortunate that it had to be done, that people don't want to be accepting or even tolerant of anything that's different to them or their beliefs, but that's the world we live in. But there were threats made, threats that should be taken seriously, and no amount of security could guarantee that everyone would be unscathed. I think for the safety of her fans, her crew, the venue employees and herself, she did the right thing.

I think she made the right move too, but I can't help but think that a country and a number of her fans were punished for the actions of a small group of people. Will she cancel every show if similar threats are made in other countries?

I think it probably depends on how credible the threat is. I mean, there are always gonna be groups that want to stop popular music from being heard. I remember in the 80's the PMRC used to picket outside concerts, send nasty letters, protest concerts, etc. These days when a group doesn't like a band or artist, the threaten to sue or try to find some obscure law to prevent the shows. And in the extreme cases, they threaten violence. Most of the threats they get are all bark and no bite, but sometimes there are threats that are deemed a threat to life.

I guess they must have thought the threat was credible enough, which is sad that people would go so far just to stop a bunch of people from having a good time.

You said Lady Gaga tries to bring something good to another country? What is that good? Is it not that Lady Gaga was to hold a concert there for money? Was it not more appropriate to say that Lady Gaga and her promoter were actually after financial gain and not really to bring something good to the country of Indonesia. Now, if the Indonesians are also offended and would go to the extent of threatening her then Lady Gaga should be happy that the Indonesians gave her a warning instead of letting her come and perform and then do what they believe she deserves.

Apparently a lot of people were upset that she canceled the concert. They were so upset that they set up formal protests. Lady Gagas' fans in Indonesia thought she was bringing something good, whether or not she was charging money for it, and apparently the people who had a problem with it were in the minority, so I stand by my statement.

Well, i think she made the good move in order to secure their safety, the audiences, the staff and the country itself against those extremists. And I don't think there's a better way. All I can say is, there are some people who are conservative that can't accept liberated actions.

I understand the conservative view points of certain countries, but when there are so many people looking forward to something, and they are in the majority shouldn't someone tell the conservatives to butt out. If threats were made in a concert scheduled in Paris or London would she have reacted the same way?

I'm from Indonesia. And even though I was not gonna watch the concert, I feel disappointed with her cancelling the concert, and especially to the parties who reject her coming here. FYI, many Muslim people here also hate that 'Muslim Extremist' group. I heard that Mr. President once said to dismiss that group, but they're still exist until today.
Many Lady Gaga's fans are very disappointed with the final decision, and they did flash mob several days ago, in a big Mall in Jakarta, singing Lady Gaga's songs and completed with her costumes to express their disappointment.
I think for now she make the right decision, since the Muslim Extremist party can be so rude and extreme when they're angry. Seriously.

I was waiting to hear from someone from Indonesia. Do you think the country was offended that the threat was taken seriously? In your opinion would these extremists have done something that would endanger people at the concert.

Talking about the extremists, they haven't done anything yet about the concert. But, from the past experience (not a concert) they were able to do some extreme actions to something which is not correct according their point of view. One example, when it comes the Fasting Month for the Muslim, these extremists even destroy some food courts they found near them. They said that the owner of the food court do not respect the Muslim who are doing fasting that day. You know, not all Indonesian people are Muslim, not all Indonesian are doing fasting that month, and even the Indonesian Constitution guarantees freedom of religion. So, who doesn't respect who in this case?
There is one rumor I heard about them related to the concert. Some online media stated that these extremist have bought thousands tickets for the concert in order to disturb the concert. So from that news, if it's true, then a question came up in my mind, do they really reject Gaga, or they really want to watch the concert? They're just so weird.
