Why do most non-muslims think of Muslims as terrorists?

The question that's been on my mind for years. It is obvious that the Taliban have caused devastating pain and desctruction to non-muslims, and we are sorry for that deeply. But, what most non-muslims do not know is that the Taliban are not considered as Muslims by us, they have been outcasted, which is why they live alone in remote areas such as the mountains of Balochistan and somehwere in Iraq. The reason that Muslims do not consider Talibanis as Muslims is that they have violated primary principles of our religion, the Holy Quran and the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) clearly mentioned that everyone has the right to practice religion freely, and that no one will be forced to convert to Islam. Which is something that the Taliban do not follow, as they harming the people living in non-muslim countries, namely America. Secondly, our religion strictly forbids comitting suicide, it says that anyone who takes part in committing suicide shall enter hell and burn in the blazing fire. Thirdly, the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) states that no life shall be taken, and no one shall be killed by another, that Muslims cannot mutilate dead bodies, take the life of children, women, the aged or the regular man, it has been strictly forbidden. I hope this finally brought light to the fact that Muslims do not consider Talibani's as one of us, as Islam condones all their acts. Mostly, over here they harm us themselves as well, and kidnap us from our homes and threaten to kill our families if we do not join them, that's how they are bringing in recruits, there is no motive behind this which includes religion. So please do not blame Islam. Talibani people have nothing to do with our religion, our religion says a clear 'no' to everything they practice. And do not think that Muslims are numb or joyful at your destruction, since they are targeting us more than you and also because that would be inhuman.

this is a messed up mentality, that racist and uneducated people have. i have faced an situation like when i was outside of my country.someone told me that all of our people(Romanian people )are thieves and criminals.that because of some incidents that happened in Italy and some Gipsy's with Romanian origin were involved. what disturbed me most is that there are so many Romanian doctors and scientists worldwide that have so many high performances.nobody talks about them, but when a stupid guy kills someone the whole international press is talking about it,and in the next moment we all are criminals. this is how Hitler managed to do his thing:with racist mindless people.

Islam isn't a "race". It's not even a religion, it's a political. theological ideology.

How is it political? And if it were a political, wouldn't it need to be religion first?

I am really very sorry that you had to go through that. I really agree with you and I am happy to see that you too are against labelling an entire race for the action of one person. Again, I apologise for what those people did to you, it was incredibly racist and not true. Just brush their comments off your shoulders because their mislead opinions would only need to be heard by you if they actually mattered, which they don't. And I think that both you and Romanian people are truly great people. Thanks for the comment, JZIAKHAN.

I feel Muslims are no different than any other religious group. Every religion has it's fanatics that distort the words of their own religion so they can justify harming other people. The U.S. is dealing with cases where religious groups are attacking homosexuals for being abominations of God. The fact is when you let your beliefs take you away from God, you are probably committing one of the worst sins ever.

I completely completely agree with you. All my life I was afraid that non-muslims would hate me simply because of what the Taliban were doing on their own account and Islam -having nothing to do with it- was recieving all the blame, so I had always been very afraid, and I felt helpless. And thankyou also for being so supportive phillydreamer, I agree with what you say about people becoming extremists and inventing innovation to such an appalling extent and then executing their actions in the Name of God. Thanks again for the kind comment. JZIAKHAN.

Thankyou again for another kind comment. You are so right about people being biased and letting the wrong thoughts take control of their perspectives. I am so glad that I started this conversation, because I got to meet someone as understanding as you. Thanks again for the lovely comment.

One thing I have learned is that every culture has something to teach us, and if we allow prejudice to cloud are minds we will never learn anything. I remember talking to a co worker about the religion of Islam and he told me a lot of things i did not know. I had no idea how close it was to the Jewish, and Christian faiths. I guess when you have different religions originate from the same place things tend to be similar.

I do not believe that Muslims are all terrorists. The Taliban have caused much misery indeed. The Taliban people have nothing much in common with the Muslim people. When I worked as a container marketing controller in a shipping company I had a Muslim friend. Her family had come from Bangladesh. She lived in the East End of London. She was a lovely person. I am very keen on traveling and have traveled to some Muslim countries like Jordan, the Maldives and Sumatra an island in Indonesia. I went to Jerusalem in Israel. I looked around the Dome of the Rock and saw it was next to the Jewish people's Western Wall. Religion is very followed in Jerusalem and I respect every faith.

yes, a lot of non-muslims already see and label muslims as terrorists but to me personally it depends, i believe some muslims are also nice and peaceful people..i can see also some muslims who are good people..so it is not fair to judge all of them immediately just because others are terrorists..

Thankyou for being so open-minded and seeing things for what they truly are. It is not fair to judge anyone, no one has the power or the importance to judge someone else. JZIAKHAN.

I am not a Muslim, but I find it highly unfair to tag Muslims as terrorist... it's like plain white piece of paper with a black dot in it... and when presented... it's always the dot that comes first as the attraction... It is just wrong... Religion guides us to a path where we can be a better person not the other way around, and if there are groups who diverted to its teaching, then that group alone should be convicted or whatever justice be... And in small hope our media will start to address it separate from the word "Muslim" but address it to a groups name or whatever they might call it... Peace be to you jziakhan

I am so very very glad that you asked this question, graceekwenx! I am very sorry to say that unfortunately, only some politicians fight the Taliban, and that too is not very often. What I am about to tell you is something that all Pakistani's know as we are living with it in terror and I want everyone else in the world to know this as well. The reason that politicians are so discreet in handling opposition to Taliban forces is that they are afraid that when they adress them and admonish them publicly on Television and News Channels, that the Taliban will target their families and find them. This has already happened with a lot of the politicians here in Pakistan, they have been murdered because they openly humiliated the wicked ways of the Taliban, and their families now recieve constant threats by them. The families limit their stepping out from their homes even, and are followed closely by an entire line of cars crammed with security guards flanking them left and right when they proceed outside on the roads.
