Have not been 10 star for a long time now

I don't know if everybody was excited to have 10 star rating here as I was, and when I did have it, I know I felt happy and proud. So, when I found out I got ranked down one day, you could imagine how bad that made me feel. Well, now it doesn't really matter to me that much but it would still make me happy if I get to get that rank again, I mean who wouldn't be right?
So I started thinking how I actually got ranked down, and I am not sure if I remember it right but I think that was it. It was that time when I mostly got involved in discussions made by some controversial members here (I'm sure many old-timers here know some of those whom I'm pertaining to, especially the one who has always been my favorite, but let me not mention his name, *cough*-la-*cough*-aa-*cough*-amb-*cough*!), and there were members who just rated responders pro to this controversial members negatively. It was really unfair, but I never complained.
Anyway, does anybody here share the same experience as mine or did you get ranked down because of your own doing? Did you feel that it was unfair?

Hello choybel
I am sorry to hear that your feelings are hurt from this down rating. It is unfortunate that we cannot have a difference of opinion without it have negative consequences.
I was on this site a few years ago. The very day that I got my star, I was a seven, and I was disappointed. The very next day, I was a 10, and I remained a 10 for the rest of the time I was on the myLot. I must admit, I enjoyed being the 10.
This time, the day I got my star, I was a 5. And guess what? It didn't bother me in the least. It means nothing, really. We know who we are, no? I grew to like the 5 because it was the purple color, and I liked that. It has pizzazz!! Now I am the green. It's not so bad. The colors are bright and I like them.
I treat people with respect. I can't help if they don't respect others, and neither can you. Enjoy your time here! The people here who matter to you respect you. No worries, friend!

well, like me the first time was really good and after being here for long, not having a 10 doesn't really bother at all.
I definitely agree that respect should always be shown and/or given here and everywhere else. Some people will disrespect you and that's their problem. If you continue to show respect despite the disrespecting you get, then doesn't that just show who the better man is? Besides, like you've said people who matter to you will always respect you knowing the kind of person you are.

Hi choybel...
I was having 10 star for last three years but last year, i came down to 9 and suddenly days ago, again i came to 10 but after three days, again to 9. I can guess who have rated me negatively. If they are rejoicing by doing that and getting immense pleasure. Then i like to say them to cheer up more. It does not affect me whether they have rented me negatively or not. I enjoy mylot as i did earlier.
Have a nice time.

I don't mind my stars anymore. It used to be 10 as well but it went down because haters exist in mylot as well. They're everywhere!
Doesn't matter to me though and i just don't care if i ever get it back or not. I'm happy just talking to people and making my point here on mylot.

I also experienced being downgraded before. I was already in my 8th star rating and was shocked that after a few days i was downgraded to 7.
But i didn't try to find out why. I thought i have responded wrongly to a discussion.
Well, you cannot please everybody, that's how it is, my friend.

I have been ranked 9 for a long time. I think it depends mostly upon the quality of the discussions we make. I am working hard to reach 10 and hope to reach 10 star someday in the future. I think it is good to get highest rating in myLot.

It's nice to have the highest rating but what's more is important is we get to express our thoughts openly and enjoy participating in discussions here. Not only then we learn new things, we are able to make new friends as well, right?
So I hope you continue to enjoy your participation here in mylot. Thanks for sharing!

Hi choybel! I remember when there was a lot of controversy going on over the rating system. I stayed at 9 for a very long time. I never could understand but I stayed persistent and very active. Participation on all the levels of myLot is key I think. Rating, best responses, discussions, quality responses...and of course the way people rate you. I think that it is all part of the rating formula. You are certainly a quality member and I couldn't imagine anyone rating you less. I think that there are people that rate negatively sometimes just because their opinions are not agreed with and that is not fair. The thing that makes myLot wonderful is the diversity and the things that we can learn from each other here.

I care so much about my rank when I first got it. And was even so proud to announced that I have reached the blue star. I was inactive for a couple of months here and came back seeing I was downgraded. I didn't thought we could be rated even while we were away. So when I came back, I really tried to keep it up here. Sad to say, I am not keeping it now a days already and will not be surprise to see the red star again. It's a bit busy in the office again so I am here less more than I was a few days ago. As for the name who should not be mentioned, ignore him/her. He can try to rank you down but you are always free to say what your feelings are and your opinions in a certain topic. This is a discussion site after all and no rules are set to always agree at some discussions

I'm glad you came back and made it back to ten star rating. I'm happy for you. I just wish I could get back to that rating again. I just miss seeing my favorite color beside my username.
Well, you are certainly correct, there are no rules set to just agree on everybody's opinion.

I have never really paid attention to my own star rating. I just try to be polite, respond with something more than a word or two, and not get into arguments, or if I do stay with logical arguments and leave the personal attacks out of it.

That's actually a smart approach here. Logical arguments don't usually get you negative ranks. I also believe in avoiding discussions to which only conflicts may arise and no definite solution for it like topics on politics, religion, etc.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this matter.

Honestly, I was wondering how those numbers are given. I always notice that star with an 8 but I am not really aware on what is that number for :D Now I know.. I guess everybody would love to have 10 but if this means that I cannot say my true opinion or views about some topic, I think I am better with number 8 :D

It's some sort of rating here in mylot. Do check the FAQs section for more information about it. Anyway, I see you have increased a rank, since you have the red 9 star now. Great job!
As you have said, rather have rating below 10 as long as one gets to express his/her opinion openly.

I had gotten to a point when i was at least a 7 star..but that only lasted for a day. i was over a 100 post also. but the next day, my star was gone and so were my posts! I didnt worry tho, i just asked the question, got my response and dealt with it. I was upset because it was a day that i really put in some work also. so i have been gone for a couple days and now im going to get my starz back!
