A dutch entrepreneur started a trillion dollar venture to colonize the planet mars. So far he's got the support of a considerable number of private companies worldwide. This venture is geared to launch by 2023. This could mark another milestone in man's leap to the future. http://www.mars-one.com/en/. You can see all the information there. I was so intrigued about this one. Specially because they said it's all organized by the private sector, meaning no government is involved in this undertaking. Really now? If indeed they could pull this off, I would certainly want to be part of it. To be among those first long list of people who will help build this colony from the ground up. But on 2023 I'd be 59 years old. But I'm in great shape, a survivalist, I can work labor, I can help design structures, some military training, martial arts and I would love to pursue my long time missed education in geology or biology to be able to help out colonizing mars. But sad to say they the age qualification is tacked at age 25. What a bummer. Some say it's a one way trip as people who volunteer for this venture will have to live and build on mars, most likely for the rest of their life. I'm all for that. Consider it my contribution to mankind, science and the preservation and evolution of our species. But what ever gave them this idea to colonize a planet? Are they in it for the long haul? Is it all about business and being the first to be there for power and to rule? Or is there a more impending doom to our planet that they haven't disclosed? Would you want to volunteer on such a one way trip or better yet a suicide mission for the evolution of human kind? I know I would. It's a fresh new start for me and what a refresher away from the chaos that man has created on our planet earth. Don't get your hopes up just yet, although they have posted their intentions for recruiting volunteers, they have not yet released when they will start to recruit. I know my chances of ever getting on this venture is slim but I can only dream.

It's a crazy idea for sure, and they would have to be in it for the long haul, because the colonists will need constant support and fresh supplies forever. You can't just leave a bunch of people stranded on Mars. I imagine they are lookingg for young people as they don't want to lose colonists to the harsh conditions Mars will throw at them. If we can do this on Mars, then its safe to say we could do it on other planes. I think thats what this is all about, just another way to further mankind.

I think your nuts. Could you really be away from your kids forever? I know thats why I'm not trying out for this show.

After they build a city on Mars with a nice suburban neighborhood for families, you can count me in ... as the creepy old guy who lives alone (of which every suburban, family neighborhood needs one)

This is a very exciting idea!
And don't despair, there's always a way to be part of it if you really want to. You just have to find it. If not, well I'm sure at some point, you'll be able to visit as a tourist.
Yes, I'm sure for many people, it is the opportunity to start afresh and live a very good, fulfilling life. I have watched some shows on TV about the history of Australia's start. Even America's start. People who were nobody in England or Europe, or even been seen as lowlife criminals, became very rich people in these new countries where they started afresh.
Perhaps the same way, starting a human civilization on Mars could be the answer for a lot of people who feel stifled by the earth countries' politics and oppressive taxation.
At least for a while, I suppose Mars would be a free place with its own rules.
Hold on to your dream, and you might just get your break!

Yeah exactly! Much like the vikings exploring places to plunder. They were actually scared to the bone about finding the edge of the world and falling off it Because they believed once the earth was flat and the edge of the sea was just somewhere waiting for them, not to mention the monstrous creatures and other unknown dangers from myths that they thought they would encounter along the way. But they went anyway because of the adventure of a lifetime. But I ain't gonna be a tourist. That needs money to just to visit the place. If I can't be on the ship going to mars, I'll settle as a volunteer to work with all the preparations for the qualified astronauts. This adventure of a lifetime is second to none. The creme dela creme. I'd risk my life for man's next footing on the greatest leap to the future. Yup I will hold on to this dream till I get it. Thanks for the cool response.
