" Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels".

this is a line a large woman said on Real Housewives of New Jersey. I struck me! This is what some women think? Wow! See I have always been full figured and A picky eater! Meaning all those diets to lose weight Never seemed right for me. To me it was either eat what I like Or Never eat! I picked the former and Never expected to be " the right size" So Wanting to be skinny Never entered my mind . So to hear a women who isn't skinny say this was a shock. Do you feel this way too?

I theoretically would love to slim down some kilos I put on when I stopped smoking. But when I think of a party (such as the party I just had at home last SAturdaY9 I spend a lot of time making wonderful food. I love good food!

I remember the time, long time ago, when butter for banned from most houses. At that time there was an awful tasting margerine. I never stopped using butter and my cholesterol levels are perfect. Same with eggs, now that I think of it.

Way back, people ate a lot of eggs (I love them!) and noone cared for cholesterol. I think that we are too worried about the span of our life and have stopped thinking about the quality of the life we lead.

I originally heard this line in reference to the "Thinspiration" and "ProAna" movements, and it unnerved me too much in that context for me to say anything in defense for it. Outside of that context, I might very well agree with the sentiment behind it. I think being fit and healthy is much more important to me than the temporary satisfaction of eating some junk food. I'd rather eat vegetables and feel great than eat pizza and feel rotten. So in that way, I can agree somewhat... but as I said... in the pro-ana context that it's picked up, I don't want to touch this line! In that context it means a girl would rather starve and be thin than eat and gain even the slightest bit of weight. That's not healthy in the least.

I'm the reverse. I rather have that pizza and feel well fed than have veggies and feel deprived and resentful of those who Had the pizza. The lady who said it was having that sdalad while her brothers enjoyed a pizza. But then again I never was taight to worry about my size. It is strange to hear how many see having pizza as a weakness and once they do eat it , they feel guilty. I don't eat veggies so if I couldn't have my pizza , I wouldn't be eating!

Since I became health-conscious, pizza honestly doesn't taste as good to me anymore. After months of eating my veggies, whole wheat, and my quinoa I decided to go ahead and splurge for a pizza a few days ago. It tasted so greasy and gross to me, and it was a fairly good pizza I'd enjoyed in the past. And I've never been terribly concerned about my size so much as my health. I didn't want to have high cholesterol like my Dad and be so at risk for heart disease. The small size is a plus for me, but the health is the best deal. And I feel great too. The way you eat affects your overall energy level and I love being able to keep up with happy little children or take a long walk. That's what's more important to me than pizza, and I don't regret giving up so much junk food.

Well, then I guess we're polar opposites! I actually love my veggies, and I'd much rather eat veggies than quit eating altogether. I honestly couldn't imagine not liking pizza at one point, but now I can't imagine what I was thinking. In any case, I'm glad you are living happily as you are and I hope you continue to live happily in the future.

I don't think being skinny is any better then being fat or big. If that is the way you where made then I say live and if you don't like it then you can change it or not change it at all. I'm naturally made the way I am. I can eat and eat and not really gain much weight even when I try. So I don't even try to change. If I gain a few pounds i really don't care if a lose a few I don't really care either. After having a baby a lot of women are concerned about there look but I wasn't and it's not because it just came right off I just didn't really make a big deal about it and of course hubby loves me the way I am with or with out being skinny. He isn't skinny and even if he was I don't know if I would like it or not. I didn't marry him for his looks I married him for him and I"m not going to change him or ask him to change himself. He has lose some weight which is good but I don't pounded in to him that he needs to lose weight. I don't even ask him too at all. His body is his body and he is the temple keeper of it.

Hubby is like that pretty much minus the red meat of course. He some times spends all day walking around work especially lately teaching about of new people that where not trained well with what to do. Some times he doesn't get to eat lunch that I make him so he can bring it to work and not get hurt from what they have there. They have a lot of grease food that cause him issues. The weight he lost was him doing or his body doing the work for him not be telling him what to do. Although I'll tell him before he eats red meat or something are you sure you want to eat that and cheat. I don't mind him cheating as long as he doesn't do it to often because then he feels bad and punishes himself.

Answer me this. Do you feel comfortable in your skin? I mean can you walk around without getting out of breath. Do you fit into your favorite clothes? If the answer to these questions is yes, then let it go. believe it or not size 14 is average! The only two reasons to lose weight are because of health reasons or you need to lose weight to feel better about yourself. I mean if you can't do the things that you want to do because of the weight , Then lose the weight. The thing is to be happy.

hi bjc and sara a happy diabetic is onw who is not anorexic but also not as large as me but I have been diagnosed as having low thyroid so since being on medication for that I am slowly but steadily losing weight I was 225 now am down to 195 and am aiming for 150 which may sound too heavy but trust me I look good at that weight. fat cells impede insulin's job of feeding sugar into our muscle cells where we need it and letting the sugar float in our blood stream which is hard on our various organs.I do not want to look anorexic but also want to look healthily slim and feel great too

For me it's not about being "skinny". How skinny is skinny? I've seen some skinny girls that look like a bag of bones and it is not in the least bit attractive. I have also seen larger girls who are well-proportioned that look great. I don't feel good when I put on too much weight, nor do I feel good when I lose too much weight and my clothes become baggy on me. I think everyone has a weight range that they feel comfortable at. It's also a matter of health. Everyone knows that morbid obesity has all kinds of health issues associated with it. Sometimes I'll be eating something at work, a piece of cake or dessert or something and one of the girls will ask me if it's any good before they try it. I sometimes reply "well, it's not worth getting fat over if that's what you mean".

I don't get it! either food tastes good to you or it doesn't! I never equate food with getting fat.I eat what I like and I leave the rest for others. I eat until I'm full. And I eat when I'm hungry! I must be from some other planet! Never would I tell another the food I'm eating isn't worth getting fat over! But then again I have never been skinny. I never had the goal to be a size what? 0? 6? Whatever is in vogue. I guess I was lucky to see all this as something for the pretty girls to worry about and I went on to eat what I wanted!

I don't know about my cholesterol lever and maybe it is wise I don't. If they told me it was too high and I had to stop eating what I like to eat, I would say thank you , go home and end things. Why did I think life was over by age 18? It wasn't my diet but that I didn't fit into what others said was suppose happen next. So while others planned to go to college , I planned my exit. It didn't hurt because the Food Nazis kept saying my diet would kill me anyway. So it made perfect sense until my mom convinced me to stay As Is. So here I am eating Exactly what I want when I want it And Still willing to die Before the stroke or heart attack.

Do you always enjoy everything you eat? Have you ever gone to a restaurant and ordered something that looked really good on the menu but didn't taste that good when it arrived, but you ate it anyway? After all, it's not the restaurants fault if it doesn't suit your taste buds. We all have a preference for certain kinds of food. Some food tastes good and some food tastes REALLY good. For example, do you not have a preference for one kind of dessert over another? Do you have a favourite dish? Do you like chicken better than beef but you eat beef as well? While we all eat a variety of things, some we just naturally like more than others. Not everything we eat can be our favourite. I eat apple pie because I like it ok, but, given a choice, I prefer pumpkin pie. However pumpkin is not always available (especially at work). So, for instance if I were eating a piece of store-bought apple pie and one of the girls said "is it good" I jokingly reply that it's not worth getting fat over, whereas, to me, a piece of home-make pumpkin pie, with whipped cream would taste so much better that gaining weight while eating it would be the last thing on my mind. I wouldn't care because I'd be enjoying it too much. It's my favourite and it's home made. Therefore, if I was hungry and the only pie that was available was store-bought apple, I wouldn't turn it down because to me, it tastes ok. I don't DISLIKE it and I'm hungry. However, most store bought pies, or pies in general for that matter, have a lot of calories in them. More calories say, than an apple. I am not a size 0 or a size 6, however, neither am I a size 20 or a 26. I think it is necessary to be conscious of what you eat at times for health reasons. It's good if you feel lucky that you don't worry about what you eat. Obviously you are not morbidly obese or you would indeed be conscious of what you eat, along with your weight. Have you never heard of anyone being told by their doctor to lose weight for health reasons?

That's a really interesting saying. As you know, I grew up never being able to gain weight. I was always skinny. It was very discouraging! So when I hear/see the word "skinny," it is a negative thing to me. Someone above mentioned people who are so skinny that they just look like a "bag of bones." That was me when I was younger lol! I've put on some weight since I got married and started eating whatever I want, so that has helped for sure. I don't watch Real Housewives: New Jersey, so I don't about the lady who said this, but the statement sounds like it was coming from someone who was once larger and worked hard to lose weight. I suppose she knows what it's like to be not skinny and then to lose the weight and be the size she wants. I don't think what she said is true, but I think she probably meant well by it. She was probably saying how good it feels to have set a goal (to lose weight) and to meet that goal. Not everyone has this same goal. I also think everyone should be able to eat what they want, which is why this statement isn't necessarily true. A person's priorities will reflect what is most important to him/her. Excellent discussion!

She is not a housewife, she is the daughter of a housewife. she is only in her 20's. She has a boyfriend who loves her but for some reason she thinks she Needs to be skinny! this is so true. I was lucky without even knowing it! My parents Never told me I had to lose weight. My friends accepted me as is, meaning plump! I got to eat what I wanted and now my guy loves my curves! I am not looking to lose weight. I am so lucky.

I'm not offended at all! I chose to respond to this discussion for a reason. It's good to know there are other people out there who love food as much as I do lol! Thanks for giving me some background on the lady who said this. What she said makes no sense to me now! She doesn't know what skinny feels like, but she says nothing tastes as good. How would she know? She's absolutely wrong because you don't have to be skinny to be happy. When I was a skinny "bag of bones" (lol), my weight absolutely depressed me. I think happiness is found by eating what you want and not worrying about what people think. It's all about being who you want to be! I'm glad I finally came to that point in my own life. I'll work hard for what I want, but I don't care what people think. Maybe the lady on this show should've worried more about her family and less about her diet and image perhaps?

hi sararuthbeth. eating what I like is out for us diabetics as eationg what will keep us healthy and well with normal blood sugars is a must. also I learned to like a lot of great veggies and fruand lean meats.eating too much and packing on the pounds in middle age is one way to assure yourself to become a type two diabetic too. too many fat cells impede the progress of insulin ushering in glucose to our cells in our muscles where we need it to be healthy.instead the sugar stays in the blood and will damage various organs. to be slim but not skin ny is what my doctor told me and what I am living by as I am working to get down to 150/ I have a thyroid problem thats now being treated with medicatio and I am losing needed weight. I feel I must be slim but not anorexic and not a blubberpuss either/

I've never been at that end of the weight spectrum, and I eat a healthy, predominantly vegetarian, diet and am somewhat active. Diets don't work. A high metabolism combined with eating a fairly healthy diet dominated by unprocessed foods is what keeps me thin. I cook from scratch and honestly can't remember the last time that I opened a can of anything except for the cats. This society places a premium on being thin, while at the same time the food system is flooded with things that sicken people and make them overweight. So, it isn't a surprise that someone (especially someone on a "reality" show such as that) would make such a statement. I am troubled by the general ill health of this society. I am horrified by what is being pumped into the food system. I am disturbed by the fact that I know a pre-teen boy who wears a larger pants size than many men do. However, there are separate issues here--ill health caused by poor diet that is the cause of much of this society's issues with weight and the way that women are pressured to be a certain way. The woman's statement comes directly out of the latter rather than being borne of the former. Ultimately, though, do I feel that way? Well, I definitely don't mind being able to fit into a size 2. However, I don't eat the way I do in order to fit into that size. I choose my food based on taste and health. I would, though, be upset if it were a size 12 instead of a 2.

I'm also thin and a vegetarian Wilson and totally agree with what you are saying about poor diets. They contradict themselves, they say it's unhealthy to be overweight yet no one should pressure women to be thin. That's wrong. Well which is it. Do we want people to be thin or not? I like the slogan, and agree with it that's why I don't eat what I would like to eat. Though I am a little surprised by who said it, the housewives of New Jersey are not exactly sticks.

For me is has become somewhat different. I was real skinny as a kid, much like my son is right now. But I started gaining weight though the years. I never thought about it much, I just ate. But then came the time when I became diabetic. I had to go on a diet in order to bring my sugar down. I have to be honest, when I lost all that weight I felt great. I had more energy then I thought I did. I felt 20 years younger. But after the doom in 2007, I basically gained most of it back. And believe me, being on both sides, I can tell you I would rather be thin, not only for my health, but to feel good and have energy. I love food and I love to eat, thats what made me diabetic in the first place. So I am trying now to lose the weight that I gained. I don't look at people like that, but it does feel good to be thin.

I have never been thin. Your thin was a chubby child that grew to be a fat teen. After school I gained more weight but I lost it by working. Not working out but working! I am on my feet All shift long. In fact I didn't notice I was losing weight until my clothes were too big for me! But I am not thin and never will be. My eneregy level is the same I believe.

Some people were meant to have some chunk on them. I do believe that not everyone is meant to be thin. But it could also be a thyroid problem as well. And it could also be something that is genetic as well. But the person that you are is what really counts.

Strange to sound, the woman in question said so ,when she was not all that slim.Wasn't she boxing her ear by herself ?In fact, whether you are a fat person or not depends on some genetic factor. However much some eat, they never get fat, conversely no matter how hard some curb intake to fat, they are still putting on weight. As I see it,we might as well let it alone,as long as it doesn't come to the point where we have to lose weight otherwise it will do harm to our health.

I've had that experience before. I was on the city bus one time, on my way to work. And had a lady twice the size of me say "Sweetheart, you're so pretty there's need for you to be fat. Why don't you lay off the junk food, then you could find a husband." I was so shocked I didn't even know what to say to it. I was amazed that this woman that had to be near 400 pounds was telling me that. A little old lady chewed her out, with the line about glass houses. I know a lot of it is media, but media can kiss my fat behind, but if it doesn't taste good - I'm not going to eat it. And I'm surely not going to starve myself to impress anyone.
