It rained for the first time on 16th June, the weather is cool now after waiting for so many days, all seem to happy, not only human beings but also birds and animals.
A characteristic smell comes out from the wet soil just after water falls on it.
Due to heat my body had small pimple like pink spots, I was feeling totally uncomfortable; so during rains I went to our roof top and enjoyed a shower with the raindrops for 15 minutes.
On 17th I felt uneasiness in my throat, gargled with warm water to which pinch of salt was added, I felt better; but today when I got up; I find my voice coarse; I want it back.
Hubby said gargling with the same water will help, no medicine needed but I must wait.
Well did you ever face something like this; tell me how you got back your voice?
Do you enjoy to bath with rain water when it is falling?

Please respond and share.
Kalyani June 16th 2012.

Oh yes, i also experience having a hoarse voice, Kalyni.
Just like you, i would just gargle with warm water with some salt. It would be back in a day or two, just as professor has told you. Meanwhile, stop having to talk much, so you throat will be rested.

Hey...I have been through this...you have been doing the right thing...you have bear this for some days. You can try out Kanthsudharak vati...which my father takes to clear his throat from horase voice...it is available with all chemist(a small packet)...should help.
As far as getting wet in the rain...is just awesome, but have to take precautions and be careful as one might tend to fall sick.
Get well soon...Cheers.

hi kal,
i remember i got that kind of voice when we had our summer outing because my officemates and i stayed in the water for nearly 7 hours.. pool and then the beach, and back to the pool again.
so i guess we had too much of water and wind and the effect was hoarse voice.. husky. i got - no voice after that for nearly a week
the lemonade has helped a lot, i guess. am always advised to double the vitamin c at times like this. and drink lots of liquid.
one officemate made a candy out of a piece of ginger. it must have tasted awful but she was the first to get cured from that predicament. i see her taking a tablespoon of honey too.
i am not much of a rain water enthusiast. but i like rain showers in the beach. it feels so refreshing.
have a nice day.

Anny
Just chewing pieces of ginger dipped in salt or licking dry ginger powder mixed with honey is useful.
Thanks for sharing your experience

When it rains during the summer, I do enjoy going outside and playing in the rain because that was something that I used to do when I was a child and it is something that makes me feel carefree.
I also suffer from terrible seasonal allergies and because of that I do find that there are times that my voice sounds really hoarse. When that happens, I will typically try to save my voice for when I really need it.

hi,
from young i was taught not to play with rain water as they are corrosive and it's not good for our skin if we play with it for too long. also, playing under the rain would cause us to be sick too!
perhaps you want to go and see a doctor to get some medication? i also have moments when my voice was coarse as i was having a sore throat.
i think you should drink mroe water! get well soon!

voices are lame. maybe we'd all be better off if we learned sign language. that way nobosy could judge anybody else based solely on their voice. it's a real pain. my voice is somewhat naisaly. it totally sucks.

We might complain when it is dry and does not rain, but the opposite is also of worry! I am sorry your voice left you and my suggestion is to drink some tea with honey, as that is what soothes my throat when it is cold and it hurts. Hopefully it works!

Keep drinking hot water and gargle with salt water. If the sore throat has been caused by just mild infection it would go away a and you will get back your normal voice in a week. If it is some infection that needs antibiotics you may also have to go in for Azee or Azithral and only then you will be alright... I have had intense and extensive experience in getting coarse voice and it would become so severe that I would have to finally resort to voice rest [advice of doctor].I have had courses and courses of antibiotics and finally I was also advised to stop taking one set of classes. I had to choose between music and language and I stopped teaching music because I had to change pitch off and on.

We do have rains here in our place once in a while and in fact we have typhoons coming in. Just boil ginger and use it as your juice or drink. You can also use it as your candy and your hoarseness will be out.

Yes biting raw ginger pieces or dry ginger powder to which honey is added is helpful.

Though it's a common practice when one has sore throat one should gargle with salt, a doctor once told me it's not a good solution. It might temporarily relieve you from the pain but it can cause more trouble since salt has some bacteria that can worsen the condition.
It's much more better to drink ginger ale or ginger brew or simply drink tea.

I don't think the refined and iodized Tata salt has any bacteria, though ordinary salt that is sold lose has

When there are sudden changes in temperature, our resistances sometimes goes down, there are opportunistic pathogens in our respiratory tract that are part of the normal flora, so once our resistance is low, they waste no time causing the condition you just mentioned. I usually gargle an oral wash like listerine to lessen bacteria population, at the same time avoiding too sweet and too salty foods. Some oriental medicine practitioners also teach keeping the kidney part warm (lower back).
I use to like bathing in the rain but i have doubts now because even the clouds are already dirty due to pollution here in Metro Manila, perhaps I would do it if i'm in the province . The small pimple like spots is called "prickly heat" caused by sweat and bacteria during summer, yes my grandmother also taught me to cure that with rain water and it was very effective, as well as talc powder.

Talcum powder with piper-mint crystals have a soothing effect, here too there is much pollution, so for rain bath we wait for 10 minutes after the rain falls, next we allow it to fall on skin.

better use a commercial gargle like OraCare. My husband just recently had a sore throat and that OraCare gargle helped.

Most of the time when I hang out with friends at night time, and sing all night long that make me have a bad voice. Due to lack of sleep, smoke from the bar and singing makes me have a sore throat. Gargling with salts does not make me feel better sometimes I just leave it only I have to suffer from hurting my throat specially when I'm swallowing. I took a lozenges (strepsils) candy that can ease the pain. But when it turns to cough I have to take an antibiotic. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi there, give it 24 hours more, see if it makes you any fever, and watch out for purulent tonsilitis. If that happens then I suggest you to take medicine. What you can do at the moment is to not drink anything hotter or colder than the body temperature, and if you like gargle with some water with baking soda. There also are some very good aniseptic caramels. Hope to help you with that
