Hi Mylotters .. My question is whether you all are satisfied with your current typing speed. I have seen many people who types without looking in to the keyboard. They are well experienced. Does the experience alone is enough to become a good typist?
Do you make more mistakes while typing? What is your typing speed ?

I have no idea how fast I type but I've been typing now for years. I started typing on a manual typewriter back when I was about 12. Then I took some typing courses in highschool and got so I could type really fast without looking and still can. I no longer type for my work but I type on the keyboard a lot and it is the same thing. I make mistakes sometimes but I still type without looking. It's all in how you place your fingers on the keyboard. I have no idea how fast I type now and I don't even remember what my speed was back when I got tested. I do believe that experience and desire to be good at it would make a good typist. Some people just hate typing so like anything else, if you don't really like it then odds are you aren't going to put the effort into it.

Well, I think of myself as a very fast typer, but that is because it is something that I pretty much do for about 12 hours a day. IT is my job and of course my hobby, with posting online. The last time I was tested while during a job interview, I was typing approx 110 words a minute. But, I did take typing in school and as I said previously, it is my job and hobby. I do make mistakes, as we all do. Typing is something that is mastered with a lot of practice and the more you do it the faster you will become. If becoming a fast typist is something that you are determined to become, I would recommend taking a course that will teach you all the fundamentals needed with increasing your speed. They are usually offered at many community colleges at a very small fee.

Personally I have no idea what my typing speed is, and I am always known to make mistakes and the back button is a lot of times my Best friend. I find when taking a Test, or if others are watching I make more mistakes than I normally do, but I can guarantee typing on a Computer, etc. is a lot better and faster than typing from a typewriter ever was.

I used to have a touch with backspace button while typing, because I make mistakes a lot. Sometimes I may be lazy while typing. Now I am behind a search for finding a software that I could input voice commands, so that I could really consume my typing extra time.

I think mine is quite okay. As long as I am able to finish all my reports on time without the need to ask for extensions, then im all set.

I have learned typing at a young age on a Remington type-writer. So I am pretty used to typing without looking at the keyboard. Also my typing speed is quite fast. So for me it is usually more efficient that writing.
Cheers!

I make mistakes when I type and i sometimes look at the keyboard when typing. I admit I am not a good typist and I am not ashamed of that. My colleagues type really fast and they are really good and I envy them. Typing as my job makes me type fast every bit of day. So I am saying is, practice always makes perfect. So we should all be happy we are here in mylot everyday to help us practice with our typing

My typing speed right now is not quite good since I am practicing the proper typing using typing test that I downloaded last week. My goal is to have atleast 45-50 wpm and 98% accurancy so that I can start to work as a medical transcriptionist. If I dont follow the proper key in my finger i can type as fast as 60wpn but if I follow it only 30 to 35wpm see the difference.

Along with the speed accuracy is yet another factor which could ensure the quality of typing.
I am now behind of to have high typing speed. It would be an essential one in the future, as I am targeting for an IT company .

Hello the wonder boy- I make many mistakes while trying to type faster than I can. Therefore I try to type at my normal speed tat is not good enough and the job others finish in one hour I take two. Had I had good speed I could have written double the posts I have done so far. Thanks for this topic- my speed is about-40.

Hello thewonderboy
Yes, I am satisfied with my typing speed. I have been typing for years and I am fairly speedy.
Back in the olden days I was required to type a certain speed for admission into my degree program at the University. I had worried so much that I wouldn't type fast enough, but I did very well.
I sometimes miss the sounds of the typewriter when I am on these new fangled keyboard things. Fortunately, I discovered a program that allows one to download typewriter sounds to my computer and I can sound like I'm typing when I'm keyboarding.
Here is the link for such a program: http://www.redferret.net/?p=10675 (this is not a referral link, whatever that means.)

I studied a secretarial course in college and one of our subject is pure typing, not on a computer keyboard but on a type writer, blindfolded, imagine that! I can see now its significance and I'm enjoying myself typing accurately! 60wpm

I have never measured my typing speed, but it's about as fast as I can talk. I'm working on getting it as fast as I can think, but so far I haven't had much success at that.
I only started taking typing in my final school year, and didn't have enough time to really get my speed up to do well in my final typing examination.
But, by writing mostly for internet, and movie scripts, my typing speed seems to amaze many an observer. Although it's quite normal for me since that's just what normal is for me.
But you didn't say how satisfied you are yourself with your typing speed. Do you type like the flash?

It is glad to know that your typing speed is good. Anyway in my case I don't have an eccentric speed to type words. I have been using internet for more than 10 years, but still now I am not at all capable of having a good speed with typing.

My typing speed could be better, but I am not sure what it is right now. I am not satisfied with my current speed. In high school, I could type 40 words per minute. Accuracy is everything when you are typing, and I do make more mistakes and type slower than when I was in high school. Hopefully, that will change, I am always looking to improve myself. I would like to know if I could type over 40 words per minute with accuracy.

The speed can be increased only by practicing, na ? Mylot is one of the best way to keep in touch with keyboard, that's one of the reason, why I am here always. Have a nice day .

The last time I took a typing test I was up to like 75 wpm. I love the speed of which I type though I don't type from the home keys like I was taught in school. I type the way I know best.
The way I type is if I make a mistake I go back and correct it right then. It's much easier to do it that way and it doesn't effect my typing speed whatsoever.

good day thewonderboy,
with reference to your main topic, i can somehow say that i am satisfied with my typing speed. although, mistakes or typographical errors do occurs especially if i was doing a time-pressured letter. however, it is tolerable since corrections can be done so easy. no need to use a liquid eraser to correct the misspelled words. and with that typing speed and ability, i have acquired that since i was in college as we have a typing subject in our curriculum. plus it is a must for me to memorize the keyboard since i was doing a typing job when i was in my collegiate level. and because of that instances, i can say that i can type by seldom looking at the keyboard.

Hello airasheila, I am very glad to know that you are really satisfied with your typing speed. I also make so many mistakes. A common mistake is, I type 'treu' instead of 'true' .

My typing speed is average and I can manage to type without looking at the keyboard for a long time but sometimes I need to take a glance. Specially when I need to use certain codes. I need to stare in the keyboard though when I type with Russian Alphabet since my familiarity is not strong enough. With English letters though I can type smoothly with a bit of pauses once in a while.

Im not happy with my typing speed, i can type just a little slower than i can talk, but this has taken me years to get to this point. There are courses that you can go on that teach you some techniques to help you type alot faster. Its not the speed of my typing that bothers me the most though, its more about thinking of things to write about. I can only usually think of only short disscussion or responses.
