We all know that a regular motorcycle can only accommodate two persons. The driver and his back rider.
However, here in our place I could see a whole family riding in a motorcycle.
The toddler on the front of the driver, his father. Then another small girl and then her mother.
I worry whenever I see these kind of motorcycle riders.

well, not all people can buy a car, a bike is the cheapest transportation they can get. its not like they want to endanger their family, they just doesnt have the modals to do so. i watch in discovery that some big corporation make a cheap car because they understand how dangerous this is. wish that every corporation thinks people like that, not just trying to make big bucks all the time.

How nice of those big corporations who makes cheap cars so people who patronize the motorcycle even if it's more dangerous , can afford them too.
Yes, i understand that the primary reason for a family to ride a motorcycle is that they are cheaper to use.
However, we should think of the safety of the family as a whole, instead of the savings, because it will not let you save money in the long tunif ever your family meets an accident doing that.

im also not too fond with many corporation. many of my dad's friend is big man in corporation, their tips and trick is always taking advantage of people not their problems, the reason they dont want to take on people's problem is because its too much hassle and not worth it.
i have one saying that i take into my heart "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime". you dont have to gave money to people, in fact, i think they gave people money to improve their rating in public, and this only make the poor person lazy and depends on other people. if they solve the people's problem, it can help those people to move forward.
the car i mentioned is tata nano, i heard its the cheapest car in the world. 1 lakh rupees (around $2,000 us) if i remember correctly. i only heard it on news and doesnt know the performance on the road, but the price itself is what makes it amazing.

they understand....what are you talking about ??
they do it just to expand their business.they know they can earn huge profit and this is the future of middle class families. why would you expect a rich person to be interested in helping a poor person. no one is that generous and those who are , they are not engaged in cars production business.
don't take it as a rude answer but it's the truth:)
cheers and thank you,

I also come across this in my city. I think this is because it is cheaper to go around. Motorcycles are much cheaper than cars. Even in my city motorcyclists are far bigger in number than car drivers. Because of this, motorcyclists have to turn on the headlight in all conditions.

Many riders do not obey the traffic rules. The traffic police should be on guard all the time.

The traffic rules are away from those people who have money with them. The traffic police just make use to fill their pocket by just having traffic checking. So the people do not obey the rules and regulations and they give the police officers rewards, money and other items to keep the laws far away from them. This is what happens here in my country.

Oh is that so in India, my friend.
Here in our country specially here in our province, they have this Wear your Helmet always policy , but i see others who rides without helmets. My office mate was penalized for doing so.
And those traffic enforcers would every now and then, conduct a check-up of vehicles. A lot of motorcycle riders are penalized.

sometimes, i also drive my motorcycle with more than 1 back-rider. usually when the travel is short or taking my kids to school. but have you seen or at least heard about the "skylab" of mindanao? these are the people's medium of transportation in some places, not only in mindanao but in some other mountain communities in our country. i cannot imagine how the driver manage to balance his motorcycle with so many passengers, and sometimes with other things like sack of rice, etc.

Well Neildc, i guess it cannot be avoided that sometimes some motorcycle drivers would ride more than 1 back-rider specially, one or two children more. You must be a good driver.
As to the skylab of Mindanao, it's amazing. I guess it's a matter of intricate balancing. But what if someone alighted from the other end? How will they do that?

Here in our place I counted... seven persons riding in a motorcycle!
@SIMPLYD (90721)

Ha? How can a motorcycle accommodate 7 persons ?
Are you talking of a tricyle, my friend. It's a motorcycle with a side carriage for 2 or 3 more persons, as in a public transport.
@SIMPLYD (90721)

Yes, i always see that scene whenever i am visiting my parents and sisters at our hometown. There are tricycles in line who can accomodate up to 10 persons, one at the rear standing!
Gosh, i always choose to wait for a jeepney, rather than endanger myself in that tricycle. I have a strange feeling that it will be toppled backward, because of the weight at the back .

nowadays this is rare thing you can see on highways.now the traffic rules are more strict as compared before.this type of driving usually happens in not so developed regions where people can't afford a car.In big cities, rules are being passed that two wheelers are not allowed to accommodate more than 2 persons if found guilty he/she will be penalized and liable to cancellation of his/her license.No one wants to travel like that , it's just because they are not very rich that's why they have to choose this option.
cheers and thank you,

Yes, you are right, neerruu. I think this is being practiced in 3rd world countries where the people would like to save on gas.
They know that it is dangerous to do that, but still they do it, because it's cheaper that way.
It's nice that in other countries, they have stricter rules on this.

Yes, that's what i am trying to mean my friend.
If ever they go somewhere to enjoy, using a public transport would be costlier, than just riding in the motorcycle. In addition, it would be more convenient, because they don't have to wait for a public transport.
Though in the long run it would be costlier if ever they meet an accident,because of the treatments that will be incurred.

cheaper is a wrong word here.
they too want to enjoy their life with their family and there's only one man who works and feed the entire family. so they buy two wheelers not just for fun but to reach their work on time,public transportation is'nt that reliable.
and if they choose public transport for going out to enjoy ,it costs much more as compared to the fuel cost of a two wheeler ride.
cheers and thank you,

Most of the people I know ride motorcycles and are very careful! Most people that are driving in cars aren't careful or watch for motorcycles. It seems like motorcyclers get the bad reputation. They're just the same as anyone else on the road, some people are careless in motorcycles, but that doesn't mean all motorcyclers are. My mother-in-law who is in her 70's still rides a motorcycle with a sidecar on it! Being that said, not all motorcycles carry only 2 people.

Of course my friend, if your motorcycle has a side car, it will carry more than the usual riders of a motorcycle.
I must agree that there are indeed very careful motorcycle riders. It's just that the riders they meet on the road are not, thus accidents happens.
I think having more than the usual capacity of a motorcycle,makes driving it a bit harder, thus one must be really extra careful.

Logically, this should be against the law here in our country.
However, i just don't know if they are doing something about this, because i always see some family doing this. And usually it's the children who are the riders since they are small and could be squeezed in, between their parents.

i see this happening in the Philippines often too. there was a time i saaw about five people in a small motorcycle in the main road of one city! these people are not thinking, really they are putting the lives of their kids in danger by doing this!!!
@SIMPLYD (90721)

I think they know the danger of riding that way, chiyosan. It's just that they find it convenient and thrifty to ride that way. No amount of news on TV and on the radio about people dying because of motorcycle accidents could deter them from riding that way. Sad, but that's their decision.

Yes, there are. But , the implementation by the authorities seems lax.
Here in our place, i think riding in a way like that is not given much attention, as long as the driver is careful in driving and is wearing the necessary helmets. But, with the back riders, i think they are lax on that.

Yes two person is safe enough but they have to be in head gears as prescribed by law. Road accidents involving motorcycles are very common today, maybe because of its numbers. Family riding in a motorcycle is very common especially in most towns and some cities but this must not be tolerated. Our local government must pass a more strict law. I feel scared for the kids too, even if they have helmets.. Since it is not safe for them to ride motorcycles at all..

That's true Stanley. Even if they wear helmets, it's still too risky for them as a family to ride a motorcycle.
They may drive carefully, but who knows about those that are in the road, side by side them or ,meeting them.

The one who sees an incident like that, cannot really help to worry.
As we all know, motorcycle accident is rampant. SO, if ever the family who rides like that meets an accident, no one in his family will take care of the injured.

SOmetimes, drivers take the risk just out of convenience or because the situation calls for it.
However, if it would put myself into risk, i wouldn't mind , not doing it at all.

Hello,my friend.it is a very dangerous but adventurous riding mode on the road,easily causing serious raod accidents at any time.But it is very common on the road during this holiday.All we could do is to popularize the knowledge of safety riding on holoday for the absence of policemen,

hello mylotter, i don't know why these people not following policies regarding motorcyle riding? Some are not wearing protective helmet, not following traffic regulations as well. My nephew had had 4 accidents already because of motorcycle. Its not that he is not following regulations, maybe its a sign that he had to stop using motorcyle. So he sold his bike and just commute when going to work. Because of not following rules and regulations many accidents happen in the street losing their lives or injuring themselves.

Actually my friend, no matter how much careful you are in driving your motorcycle, accidents happens because of others who are reckless in driving their vehicles.
And to think that when you meet an accident, your body will be hit directly, whereas with a car, it will be the body of the car first.
That was so wise of your nephew. Imagine 4 accidents. If i were him, i could have sold my motorcycle the moment i met an accident.
That's what my brother-in-law did.

I am worried about that too. Maybe they don't wear helmet as well? I drive a motorcycle and I know that if I tag along more than one, it will be difficult to control. One wrong move or turn, or sudden stops, accident is what you'll encounter.
I wish traffic enforcers will have strong implimentation of this. Many is doing this.

There is really so much to worry when one rides a motorbike with many riders, because he has to balance it well.
I think that there is a greater chance of accident if a motorbike has many riders.

i can see that in my country too. I think the government in both our country cannot afford to take care the kid, so they let things like this happen. I think if this happen in rich country, the government will take the kids away from their parents.

Yeah we can see that some people really maximized the seating capacity of a motorcycle from the normal 1 to 2 riders. Sometimes this act lead to accidents in the streets. People who do this should be punished so that they wont do it again.
@SIMPLYD (90721)
• Philippines
23 Jun 12
That's true Ardoy. Our traffic enforcers should be more strict on this case.
Having more riders that the usual seating capacity is indeed so susceptible to accidents. And when that happens, the whole family is involved.

Our city is very rush and thousands of vechiles passes through the roads day by day. Among them most of them are motor bikes. I can see that the bikes are passing out here and there at a high speed by having three or more people in them, most probably they might be friends. I wonder why they ride so fast with heavy loads on the bike. I am too worried to cross the roads because anything can happen at anytime.
@SIMPLYD (90721)

Yes, and they do drive their motorbikes so fast, not minding that they have backriders, who at anytime can fall, because of its fastness.
