Why is every movie trying to come out in 3D?

I used to love going to the movies, but now it seems like all of them are coming out in 3D. My movie theater is small so they can either do 3D or 2D and most times they pick 3D. I wear glasses and it is hard to get those 3D glasses to fit over my glasses. I can't wear contacts, so I either have to wait till they offer the movie in 2D or wait for it to go to video. It drives me up the wall. Now don't get me wrong I like some of the affects that happen in 3D, but come on, some of the movies that are in 3D just seem like they are trying way too much. Any opinions on 3D? Like or dislike?

hihi, one day we will watch movies 4D,
i think with the developing of technology then we have a good quality movies to watch, it is really good. Better we just enjoy it today...some years later when a new technology is born, 3D will be the old one like Aladdin made in several years ago...

Well we can always hope that the trend will end, but there will be a new one that will probably cost you just as much to see the movie. Though I have to admit I do love the animation of movies now compared to when I was a kid. It is almost like the cartoons are real. I get the biggest kick when I show my kids movies like Aladdin and they ask why the animation is so bad. LOL :)

Yes, it is a trend that I hope won't last much longer. Knowing the entertainment industry though I would not be surprised if it goes for a long time still.

I have not had the pleasure, or displeasure of seeing any movie in 3D in a very long time. I think that I would enjoy to see some movies in 3D but otherwise I think it would just be over done for most. There is a place and time for this. I hope that movies are well made rather than trying to just make money. Whether or not the movie is good then I wouldn't mind seeing it in 3D in a theater.

The sad thing is that there are some that are in 3D that suck when they are in 2D, so why make them in 3D. A lot of the parts that are done in 3D are supposed to make you feel like you are part of the movie, I just think they want to distract you from the really bad plot and bad acting.

I would have to agree on that.
My thought would be that only the best movies would be in 3D. However you made a very valid point of why this is not true. It is disappointing that even our entertainment is going down hill.

I really don't like 3D and for the few times I have seen a film in 3D I usually feel like it does nothing to enhance the experience. Typically though, I can easily find the same movies in 2D playing at the same theaters.
As for why, well it's a gimmick. It sells more expensive tickets, and you can't pirate the 3D experience so it's a bit of a discouraging tool to use against film pirates. Sometimes a director just wants to push the boundaries of what effects can do, like James Cameron and Avatar, and the upcoming Peter Jackson's the Hobbit, they want to create the best possible 3D experience just for the sake of making their stories pop. I'm not into it, but it does seem to be the direction that entertainment wants to take.

Well, as I also mentioned, lots of studios are just hopping on the gimmick bandwagon. Lots of movies aren't shot in 3D, they're converted to 3D which tends to not look as good as movies shot in 3D. Plus they've stopped tossing stuff at you for the most part and are just using the medium to do sort of a watching a 3D theater effect. Good and bad things. I also tend to get headaches with 3D films, so I try to avoid them for that reason as well. There's also the cost, and it not enhancing anything most of the time.

Okay I can see how it does help to keep the movie pirates at bay, but come on, some of the 3D affects don't even make sense. I remember when it was really cool when they did the first Freddie movie in 3D, scared me to no end. Now it is like every 3rd or 4th scene has to have an affect. My son won't even go to them anymore, he says they hurt his head. I always have a headache once I leave.

They choose 3d to justify charging more money for the movie. I hate 3d and I think it offers nothing to enhance the movie for me.

I know it seems like ever since they started offering 3D all the time ticket prices at least here have jumped 2-3 dollars. I remember when you could go to the early show and spend 6 bucks a ticket now it is like 7-8 bucks for the early show and 15 for the later shows. I can wait till it comes to PPV and spend 4.95 and the whole family can watch it.

Think about it. Back then, we didn't have the technology to make 3D movies. (well, red-cyan 3D doesn't count as natural 3D.) There are even 3D TVs, the Nintendo 3DS, 3D DVDs, almost everything that has to do with display is in 3D. Technology has advanced so much over the past years...and I'm more of a 3D type of person. 2D is like Paper. 3D is realistic! xD

I will give you that it is more realistic, but until we can find a way to watch them without those glasses that hurt my head, I will stick with the paper 2D. I still loved the first Freddie movie when it came out as 3D that was cool, but some of the movies that are in 3D they just don't seem to make much sense.

I agree with you. They are trying way to hard with these movies in 3D. It's all about money to me.

It is about money, but it is also about what is popular. A lot of movie companies want to jump on the band wagon and get the money for the 3D tickets. Though I do believe that in the future 3D will lose its appeal and they will find a new gimmick to get people to spend more money. If not the price of snacks will just go up I guess. LOL

I know why do those glasses have to be so bulky and annoying. They are either too big or they pinch your head. I wish they could at least find a way to make the movies to where you do not need to wear those glasses.

this is mostly the demand as of now aside from the cost that the production team can save. the experience is also unique and that some just find it adorable and cute if it's in 3D. What is the difference between a two dimensional movie and a three dimensional one? With a 2D movie, it would seem as if you are only watching through a glass, viewing a world through a transparent window.
However, with 3D, you would feel as if something is pulling you towards the scene, making you a part of it and not just a viewer. These movies make use of our depth perception to give us the maximum viewing pleasure. Depending on the depth, we may view something as flat and planar, or it can also look full and with volume.
it's also a very interesting experience for the whole family.

I can see that some people love 3D movies and if I did not have to wear the glasses then I probably would enjoy them more. When I was a kid and the first 3D movies were coming out it was really cool. I just can't get used to the glasses that they make you where to watch a movie. Now as I am older the 3D movies give me headaches.

This is a good topic. And I also don't understand why there are more 3D movies today. In fact I am afraid that the 3D movies will be a little harmful for our eyesight. Some people even think that they have a headache after watching the 3D movies. I am nearsighted and I wear glasses when I watch movies. So I have wear a pair of 3D glasses when I watch this kind of movie. Namely I have to wear two pairs of glasses and this is very inconvenient. As to my son, he is little and he finds it difficult to wear 3D glasses, too. However, the cinema may want to promote the 3D movies since the tickets are much more expensive. I prefer there are also normal versions of movies for us to choose. Today some movies, especially the cartoon movies only have 3D versions.
I love China

You and me are one in the same. I have to wear glasses and I hate trying to get the 3D glasses over my regular ones. I am one of those who get a headache from 3D movies so I try to stay away from them. I would rather pay the 4.95 for PPV so the whole family can see it at one time at home.

I always expect people to try things at least once to see if they like it. i mean I have had people tell me in the past that I would love something and it was the worst thing. When I was little I loved 3D movies, its just as I have gotten older and that they have started to give me headaches. My husband who wears glasses too loves 3D movies. I would give it a try, but go to one of the cheaper shows because if you don't like it then at least you spent less money.

Well in my price ,the cinema ticket are expensive and even more expensive with the 3D movies. Usually they show normal and 3D movies together. The cinemas in my place are big and consists of many rooms or halls ,so they can accomodate both. I guess making movies 3D are way to earn more money. Redering the movie into 3D are more of CGI and software. The filiming companies just do some extra shots for 3D while the rest will be converted by the multimedia softwares.

I like the effect of 3D.But I hate them completely and prefer to watch in 2D for the simple reason being it hurts my head when I watch a film in 3D.I wear glasses and I use contact lenses when going to 3D film and find the glasses to be comfortable, but in some scenes,my eyes are not adapting to changing frames of the film and thus leading my heads to hurt.If I can clear that out,I would love 3D films as some effects make you feel that you are actually inside the film.

The only movie that I actually enjoyed in 3D was Avatar. It was the first movie that I had ever seen in 3D and I think it actually complimented the visual effects that were throughout the movie. Though I must admit, the 3D effect did give me a headache...and just like you I have to wear my 3D glasses over my regular glasses...but 3D honestly doesn't work for every new movie that comes out. I think movie productions should at least give the option of whether you would like to see it in 2D or 3D. Plus the 3D only increases the price of the movie ticket which sucks if you see so many of them in a certain time period.

There are a lot of movie theaters that do give you an option of 2D or 3D, but the one that I usually go to is a smaller theater and the some times do not give you the option. I did not see Avatar in 3D, but my son and husband did and they both said it was really cool. Though my son has chosen to wait till the movies are available in 2D before he goes to see them.

I seems to me likea lot of movies make most of their money by how many soecial effects they have. the bigger the effects, the bigger the audience and the bigger the profits are. With all of thesr movies competing for the biggest and best in their special effects, they have come to 3d to outdo each other. Now the thrills of these special effects will be up close and personal.

i think the problem is not on the movie makers, but in the theaters. your favorite movie house probably does not air the 2D version or delays the date of showing, probably to prioritize the 3D version. when you watch a trailer, most of them say "also available in 3D", meaning, 3D is not their main format, but a feature for 3D lovers. actually, producing a 3D format is not really like "trying way too much", they just want to give the other movie goers, the much extreme-type than the 2D-lovers, what they want, of course, with an added cost on their tickets.
besides, it is not that hard to contact and inquire to your local theater personnel about 2D format availability. it is either you are bitter about the 3D format films, or you are just lazy to find where the 2D cinema is :P just kidding.

i havnt seen a film in 3D yet.but for me, its not good to wear 3D glasses on my own glasses. i think the theater should have a selection system ,movies become more exicting through 3D and others should in 2D.
