i know that during working hours it's very unbecoming to include nonsense stuffs like facebook and some other things that is not related. but when boredom strikes, we (colleague) can't help it, but to find ways to restore the energy right??? and since we're working online. the only thing that we believe, can restore our energy is just to visit our facebook sites. but just this morning we (with colleague) we're told not to do facebook and the likes by our boss. and now we are really bored.

Hello nyang1984 I suppose that your boss would rather know that the wages he/she is paying you and your collegues is being used for actual work that benefits the company rather than you and your colleagues own interests. Back in the stone ages, before there was the internet, people had to be much more creative in ways to goof off in the workplace. Peace I love the world!!

What do you do at work? Do you have a supervisor? Could you do other things to pass the time?

When you use your work time for social networking, surfing, etc. you could be discharged from your job for stealing. You are stealing time that belongs to the company. If you're not benefiting your business during your work time then you should be discharged. I know I'd fire you.

Well your boss is somehow right to that cause he pay you for the job not to Facebook lol.Maybe you can divert you boredom in something like working on pending jobs. Most of companies blocked Facebook in their office to avoid doing it during working hours that sometimes disturbing.

Your boss has the right to demand full devotion to your work after all he is paying every single time you spent in your office, right? So why would you do personal thing in the office, during office hours? If you are bored with your job, I think it's not the management's problem but you alone. You just need to widen out all the possible work that you can do to let your minds keep working and avoid getting bored, don't limit yourself with the things within your responsibilities, be creative. Sorry to say this but I'm just a fair person. Put yourself in the situation of your boss and I guess you would do the same restrictions and won't be happy to employees doing personal things during office hours.

Years ago when there was no FaceBook but Friendster was huge, I was working online as well. My work was time specific, and I had chunks of time when there was nothing to do. Employees in the company used Frienster, Youtube, and all other sites they wanted. One day the management blocked those sites and I was indignant. I didn't think it was fair and ranted about it here in MyLot. A lot of MyLotters talked sense into my head. I am in the office to work, and social networking is a personal thing.
